Introducing The Giraffe

Giraffes are mammals. They have very long necks. The tallest Giraffe is up to nineteen

feet tall!

Male giraffes are called bulls. Females are called cows.

Giraffes And Their Homes

Giraffes once lived all over Africa. Today giraffes live on the grasslands of

southern and eastern Africa. Giraffes can also be found in zoos all

over the world. I got to feed one at the zoo in Wichita.

Giraffes Habits Giraffes sleep only a half an hour a day. It normal takes a wile to stand up

unless a predator is attacking. giraffes take turns protecting each

other when they eat and sleep.

Giraffes and their Babies For a mother giraffe to give birth it has

to in grasslands. It takes up to an hour to give birth! When the baby is being born it drops

six feet to the ground.

Baby Giraffes Born In a Zoo The mother giraffe get her own stall

the stall has thick straw The zookeepers watch them to make

sure the calf dose not get hurt After the baby is born the mother licks

it clean just like in the wild.
