INTRODUCTION Definition of antenna:- a part of a transmitting or receiving

system that is designed to receive electromagnetic waves.

Microstrip patch antenna:- consist of a radiating patch on one side of a dielectric substrate (FR4) that has a ground plane (Cu) on the other side.

Wi-MAX (Worldwide interoperability for microwave access):-

- Also known as IEEE 802.16 wireless metropolitan area network.

- Provide wireless data over long distance that is up to 50 km and with maximum data rate up to 70 Mbps.

OBJECTIVES

• To study the fundamental concepts of antenna e.g. frequency, bandwidth, efficiency, gain.

• To investigate the effect of different parameters (length, width .etc) of the microstrip antenna and their effects to the output of the antenna.

• To design an antenna that work at 3.3 GHz for Wi-MAX application using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and fabricate the prototype.

LITERATURE REVIEWPast research paper:

Microstrip Antenna Array for WiMAX and WLAN Applications by Naresh Kuma Poonia and Krishan Kumar Sherdia.

Present the design of microstrip patch antenna with center frequency of 2.5 GHz using Roger 5880 substrate.

The performance antenna design was compared in term of parameter like dimension, feed size and ground plane.

FUTURE PLAN AND IMPROVEMENT

• Gain more knowledge on how to calculate the parameter and to design an antenna with more accurate on CST software.

• Add and calculate the array dimension on the patch antenna design and simulate it on CST software.

• Prototype will be fabricated on final year project 2.

CONCLUSION

• Microstrip patch antenna is preferred due to it low cost, easy to fabricate and feed line flexibility.

• There are many aspect that affect the performance of an antenna that is:

i. Dimensionii. Selection of the substrateiii. Feed techniqueiv. Operating frequency

• The important specification that consists in designing an antenna is:i. Frequency operation, (fo)ii. Dielectric constant of the substrate, (εr)iii. Height of dielectric substrate, (h)
