Flying L History The Flying L became a 542-acre

“dude ranch” in 1946, when Jack Lapham (the “L” in Flying L) purchased it from the original polish settlers. At that time, Lapham was a retired Air Corps colonel. His dream was to create a place “where modern people can go and find themselves in the midst of yesterday.” Flying was his love, so the colonel built an airstrip and ran a flight school here. New aircraft designs were also introduced and tested at the Flying L.

The Ranch Villas were designed by associates of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and are rich in history.

The Flying L became a favorite “watering hole” for war heroes, movie stars, and literary giants. The Ranch’s guests have included John Wayne, Slim Pickens, Willie Nelson, Tex Ritter, Jim Reeves, Ray Price, Buck Owens, Chill Wills, Robert Fuller and many more. The Cisco Kid television show was filmed at the Ranch.

Info on Flying L Ranch

There is a lot to see and do at the Flying L, however the majority of the amenities are meant for the guests at the Flying L Villas and Resort. As a Flying L homeowner you can pay to play golf, use the driving range, and visit the Lone Star Lagoon, but it is my understanding that in order to use the swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court and picnic areas you must be a guest at the resort.

Flying L Property Owners’ Association dues $125.00 per year

There are still plenty of lots available for purchase at the Flying L if you would like to build a new home.

A good portion of the homes in the Flying L are adjacent to the 18 hole golf course, so if you are looking for a fairway view you will like the Flying L.

Hit the links at the Flying L The Flying L Golf Course is outstanding. With 3 tee boxes

with yardages from 5442 to 6646 yards, the course can challenge the best and yet remain fun and enjoyable to play for the rest of us. It's a scenic course that meanders through the Ranch, in and out of a small neighborhood, and up and down the rolling treed terrain. You'll find some dog legs, water holes, elevated greens and tee boxes, strategically placed bunkers, and huge beautiful trees to contend with. The front nine seems tight and challenging and the back nine is more open and forgiving - a good mix of variety.
