In its journey of over 54 years, Thapar University
emerged as amongst the front ranking institutions

alumni, most of whom are occupying enviable

encouraged the University to launch in, July 2006,
a unique programme of MBA. It heralded

About Us
The LM Thapar School of Management is the epitome of
a new thought taking shape in the parlance of
Management that combines multiple economic and

The school thus visualizes that, in not too distant a

FacilitiesInfrastructure Facilities
Computer Laboratory
The school at present functions from the TCIRD building in the Thapar
Technology Campus. Some of the centers as conceived viz CAD/CAM,
Management, Multimedia graphics, educational technology, GIS & Thrust area
development are also on the anvil.
A dedicated state of the art computer lab has been set-up as a constant hub of
activities 24x7. This lab particularly facilitates Data Warehousing and Data
Mining activities. The lab is fully equipped with advance systems with pre-
installed softwares like SPSS, IBM Infosphere and Cognos to name a few.
Library
Hostels
The library has fully computerized information system. The goal is to create a state of the
art library with all the modern communication facilities, which enable an environment of
scholastic learning. A large number of visual aids are available to support curriculum
delivery. In addition, the library subscribes to all the major journals, periodical and
magazines in areas of technology and management. LMTSOM also subscribes to various
electronic databases like EBSCO, Emerald and CMIE Prowess etc.
LMT School of Management is a part of the residential campus of TU, where the students
stay throughout their tenure. For this purpose, hostel accommodation has been made
available to all. The hostels are self-contained with all normal amenities for the students to
pursue the academic and residential goals.
TU also has Shopping Complex, Bank, Post Office, Cafeteria, ATM and sports facilities.

Student Life at CampusThe essence of students' life and activities on the campus is to provide an invigorating and
creating environment which promotes independent thinking and introspection. The young
students thus become aware of their latent talents. Excellent facilities for sports, games,
recreation, shopping are available the resident students. These are complimented by
special interest groups and other club managed the students.
Opportunities galore for the students to participate in recreational and creative
activities. Students interested in activities like music, dance, indoor games ca
join the relevant club available in the various cultural and sports events are
organized on an annual basis. The school encourages the students to
develop all facets of their personalities. Being in a residence school,
the students spend a major share of the time, being with other
students and in the process develop the spirit of teamwork.
Apart from academic, students participate extensively in
culture and sport activities.

ARETHA-Express the infinite potential
ARETHA's purpose to ignite professionalism among upcoming future of
LMTSOM and aims to embellish students with qualities of a strong leader. It
also focuses on the phylogeny of the socially sensitized managers working
towards the harmonious growth of the business and the humanity. The
society carries a direction to complement the formal education system.
Currently it is headed by Mr. Harshvardhan Samalia.
BASE (Business Acumen for Engineers)
The society endeavours to apprise students of business operations
and to create in them business acumen with emphasis on
Marketing & Finance. It regularly organizes Mock Group
Discussion, Expert lectures, Business Plan Competition and
Management Events etc. BASE also publishes business
magazine titled Biz Geek every year. Currently it is headed by
Mr. Vibhava Srivastava.

Student Discipline
Students are expected to behave in an orderly manner on all occasions and to obey such instructions as are notified
from time to time.
The defaulters will be appropriately punished including fine, expulsion from hostel, etc. by Dean of Student Affairs.
For major punishment such as expulsion/rustication from the University, making an adverse entry on the Character
Certificate to be issued by the University and debarring a student from admission to any course offered by the
University, etc. decision will be taken by the Deputy Director on the recommendation of the Discipline Committee of
the University chaired by Dean of Student Affairs.
Powered vehicles : Use of powered vehicles on the campus by the students is not allowed. However, day scholars
are allowed bikes/scooters up to the University parking lot only.
Cell Phones : Use of cell phone in the academic area is not allowed.
Students are not allowed to keep, on campus, any object, forbidden by law, which can cause any kind of harm to
anybody.
Destruction/Defacing of University property : Anybody found indulging in destruction/defacing the university
property will be punished.
Ragging : Ragging, in any form, is banned on the university. And anyone found indulging in ragging will be
expelled from the university. Anti-ragging committees and squads shall keep continuous vigil for the defaulters.
Ragging shall include, but will not be confined to the following:
Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of easing, treating or
handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which cause or are likely to
cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior
student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary
course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely
affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

Eligibility CriteriaMBA - 2 Years Programme
Eligibility : Admission to MBA will be open to candidate who obtains at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.0 CGPA
in a equivalent grade from recognized university.
Qualifying Examination is as under:
BE/B Tech degree in any discipline OR M.Sc. /MA in Mathematics/Statistics/ Computer Science/Electronics/
Physics/Operations Research/Information Science/Information Technology or MCA
Admission to MBA programme will be on the basis of Master Merit List (MML).
MBA - 3 Years Programme including 1 Year Bridge Programme
Eligibility : Admission to one year Bridge Programme for MBA programme will be open to a candidate who obtains
at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.0 CGPA in equivalent grade in the qualifying examination from a recognized
university.
Qualifying Examination is as under :
Recognized Bachelor's Degree in Science of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline with Mathematics/
Statistics as one of the subjects.
Admission : Admission to one year Bridge Course for MBA programme will be on the basis of Master Merit List
(MML).
MBA Admission
IntakeThapar University may admit up to 200 students to MBA (Two
years Programme) and 40 students in MBA (Bridge Programme)
respectively, on the basis of the performance of applicant in Test,
Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
Reservation Policy for SC/ST, PH Candidates shall be followed as
per University rules.
Note :-
A student after successful completion of bridge programme
consisting of all the bridge courses with minimum CGPA of 4.50
shall be promoted to MBA (Two years Programme).

1. Candidates seeking admission in LMTSOM, TU shall fill up the Application form
appended to this brochure and send/submit the completed form to Registrar, TU,
Patiala -147 004 only and not to any other office/institution.
2. Application for admission must be made in the candidate's own
handwriting and on the prescribed application form. The form down
loaded from the website (www.thapar.edu) or photocopy of the
downloaded form must be accompanied by a crossed Demand Draft
of ̀ 1500/- drawn in favour of Registrar, TU, payable at Patiala -147004.
3. All the particulars required in the form must be filled and no column be left blank.
4. The candidates who are in the final year of their study(Qualifying exam) can also apply for any or all the MBA
programmes. However, such candidates are required to submit proof of passing their qualifying exam on or
before 31 July, 2011.
5. The short-listed candidates will be called for Group Discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (P1) and then on the
basis of CAT score/Own test, GD and Pl, a Master Merit List (MML) will be prepared. Admisisons under all the
categories will be made on this basis of this MML.
6. In no case, the number of short-listed candidates to be called for Group Discussion and Interview shall exceed
1500 in the first instance.
7. Candidates applying for FN or NRI categories are required to bring sponsorship affidavit as per format
appended with this brochure. Such candidates are also required to bring equivalence certificate of their
qualifying exam from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), 16 Kotla Marg, New Delhi.
FN candidates are also required to submit 'Student Visa' for the duration of the programme.
'NRI' means a person with Indian passport and having passed the qualifying exam from outside India.
'FN' means a person with valid Foreign Passport.
NRI/FN candidates are required to show their passport at the time of the counselling.
8. The original certificates and set of attested copies of the certificates are required to be produced at the time of
Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
9. Every candidate must indicate in his/her application the category(ies) of reserved seats for which he/she
wants to apply. If no mention is made about the category, the candidate will be considered only for the general
category. No candidate will be considered for admission against a reserved category for which he/she has
not applied.
10. Application complete in all respects should reach the Registrar, TU, Patiala-147004, by 5.00 P.M. on or before
11.02.2011.

11. Application not submitted on the prescribed form or not in the candidate's own handwriting or incomplete
application in any other manner and received after the due date/time will be rejected. The University does
not take any responsibility for postal delay or loss in transit of the application form.
12. Candidates must be medically fit and must bring along with them a medical fitness certificate signed by
Gazetted Medical Officer at the time of Counselling on the prescribed proforma as per Annexure IV failing
which they will not be considered for admission. In case a candidate fails to deposit the fee at the time of
his/her counseling, his/her admission shall stand cancelled.
13. Refund of fee : In case, a seat vacated by the student gets filled in the subsequent rounds(s) of admission,
he/she will be refunded the balance amount after deduction of 1000/- from the total fees deposited by
him/her otherwise he/she will be refunded only the university security and alumni fee. All outstanding dues
will, however, be recovered before such refund is made.
14. In case of a tie among candidates securing equal marks in the merit list, the same will be broken in
accordance with the following criteria: (a) Candidate senior in age shall rank higher in order of merit. (b) In
the case of a tie in age also, a candidate getting higher percentage of marks in the (10+2 or equivalent)
shall be ranked higher in order of merit.
15. The provisions in this brochure may be changed by the competent authority without any notice.
16. For any classification/dispute, the decision of the Director, TU, Patiala shall be final and binding on the
candidates.
17. Admitted candidates will have to submit the migration certificate from the earlier University/Board within a
month of their admission.

Regarding Competent Authority to Issue Certificates
Group Insurance : All the enrolled students of the programmes are covered under Group Insurance scheme. This
policy covers a risk of `1.00 Lakh (One Lakh) in eventuality of occurrence of death of student due to accident. A
premium of ̀ 75/- per annum per student will be charged from the student.
The coverage will be effective from October 1st of the relevant year.
Amartya Siksha Yojna Policy : The policy is for covering expenses to be incurred for the education of the student
child. This policy benefits is given after happening of the accidental contingency to the insured parent/guardian of
the insured student child for contribution of education in respect of the covered courses till completion of the
course.
Accidental death/permanent total disablement of the parent/guardian who is to bear the expenses and in whose
favour the policy has been issued.
"Accident" covers the contingency of death/permanent total disablement resulting directly from external, violent
and visible means.
The claim will be subject to the definition and coverage of Insurance Policy cover issued by the insurance company.
The coverage will be effective from October 1st of the relevant year.
The format for SC Certificate is given as Annexure II and the competent authorities to issue the certificate are as
under :
(i) District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy

(v) Administrator/Secretary to Administrator/Development Officer Lakshdweep islands. (Circulated vide
No.2/223/79-SWT/4387 dated 8-6-96).
(vi) MLAs of the concerned constitutency (Circulated vide No.1/19/94-RCI/6045 dated 15.7.94).
The competent authority to issue Scheduled Tribe certificate is same as given for Scheduled Caste category.
The admission of candidates in this category will be made on the Submisison of certificate to be issued by Chief
Medical Officer of the District concerned, which would indicate the extent of disability. Minimum 40% disability is
required to be eligible under this category.
However, this provision will b e subject to the decision of the Admission Committee of the University whether
such a candidate would be able to pursue the studies at the University with his specific disability. The
