Future Enhancements
The current network designs and its hardware and software will
suffice for the time being. Although for the future events it will
be better to upgrade the designs, hardware and software.
Network TopologiesThe current network design is using the bus
and star topology. For future events, we believed that by using a
dual ring topology will be more suitable.
Above Picture will show the supposedly dual ring and replace the
bus topology of we are currently using. This is the case in each
country booth. The reasons why we picked dual ring topology over
bus topology in this case because: Ring topology is very organized
as traffic flows only in one direction resulting high speed and
less chances of collision. Even there is an increase load on the
network, it only have little effect on the network performance
resulting it having a better performance than the bus topology.
Additional nodes or other hardware do not affect the network
performance. Each computer has equal access to resources. By using
a dual ring topology we eliminate the ring topology main
disadvantages which is it dependence on the ring wire.
So, the concept of implementing the ring topology in the network
will be more or less like this:
EquipmentsAs for the equipments, mainly the switches we are
currently using in particular is the LGS552 52-port Managed Gigabit
Switch which is more than adequate to handle all the needs during
the event. It is certainly expensive with its price ranging in
$1100.00 for one unit. Although in terms of current situation, the
required switches specification needed are much lower ranging in
just 12 48 port gigabit switches which is definitely more cheaper
than the current one but if future installments are to be taken
into account, the LGS552 52-port Managed Gigabit Switch will prove
it can handle the problems despite its price. The equipment brands
are also a factor where it defined the needed specification with
its price. Again taking switches as example, different brands may
provide cheaper price but good performance for example NETGEAR
which provides cheaper prices and switches that are more towards
the home/small office networks. Meanwhile, brands like for example
Cisco, which provides more gigabit switches that have more ports to
handle high number of nodes and larger process load. Cisco tend to
have a higher price tag but are certainly useful in its
specification towards larger and complex networks designs.
ConclusionsCurrently, our network designs are more than enough
to handle the needs and requirements as it is: Easy to implement
and extended. Well suited for temporary network as suited in our
situation. With our high-end switches and more than enough server
equipment, the reliability is the prime factor here over the price
factor. We want to ensure fewer problems occurred during the
implementation part of the event and during the process of the
event.
