Our Ref: HP251 16 October 2017 Dear Parents/Carers Re: Hunsley Primary Newsletter This week, the children really enjoyed the chance to work together across year groups in their House Teams (Key Groups). They explored the wider school site, using maps and grid references, then captured the sights, sounds and even smells of the local environment on their iPads to see how the landscape is changing at this time of year. It was superb to see how the Year 2s used their writing skills to document the activity, and even more pleasing to see how they cared for the younger pupils as they walked around the site spot on, Year 2. Year 1 have really impressed us this week with their writing skills too it’s great to know how far they have progressed this half term, applying their new spellings and really working hard on their presentation and handwriting. Reception have wowed us with their reading skills how quickly they are adopting their phonics strategies to open up a brand new world of independent reading is quite remarkable! Now begins a lifetime of reading pleasure. A huge well done to all the pupils for their learning this week and thank you to parents for supporting and enhancing this learning through practice at home. Hunsley Primary Christmas Performance We are pleased to announce that our Christmas Performance this year will take place on the morning of Tuesday 19 December in Riding Hall at South Hunsley School. The school will send home 2 tickets per family for this event. Further information will be sent out in due course. Tapestry Reception You should now have received information and log in details for the Reception online learning journeys on Tapestry. If you have any questions regarding Tapestry please do let us know. Year 2 Benchball Team Competition We are excited to be offering Year 2s the chance to join a benchball team for a primary interschool competition run by the Tiger’s Trust. There are two squads entering from Hunsley Primary with 16 team places. A letter will be coming home to Year 2s who have expressed an interest in being part of those two teams. The first of two competitions will be taking place on Wednesday 15 th November, 4.10pm-5.30pm in the Riding Gym, South Hunsley School. Further details to follow. Within the school setting a child under 16 will never be given aspirin or medicines containing ibuprofen unless prescribed by a doctor (As directed by Department of Health ‘Managing Medicines in Schools & Early Years Settings’) Updated contact details Please ensure that the school is provided with up to date contact information for yourselves and anyone that you would wish the school to contact in case of emergency. It is especially important that we have current telephone numbers, email addresses and home address details of parents who live at separate addresses if they wish to be contacted by the school regarding their child. If you need to update your details please complete our Change of details slip that can be obtained from the main office. If you would like a copy emailing to you please do let us know. Designated Collection Please let Mrs Hitchin know if there are any changes to the designated adult collecting your child at the end of the school day, so that she can alert the team to any changes, even if this change takes place at the last minute. This is also important if your child will be attending any of our after school clubs or workshops. Keeping children safe is our prime concern and we will always check when in doubt. Rugby Tots – Reception and Year 1 Thank you for registering your child’s interest in our Reception and Year 1 Rugby Tots class. Details of this class have now been finalised and this will commence after the half term on Monday 6 November, 3.30pm - 4.30pm. Further information and how to pay will be sent to parents who have expressed an interest in due course. School Photography Company The School Photography Company will attend Hunsley Primary at 9.30am on Tuesday 7 November to take the children’s individual photographs. Information on how to order and the order forms will be sent home via your child’s book bag shortly after this date. Stars of the Week

As you know, each week we recognise the children’s achievements by giving out certificates for

Phonics, English, Maths and Investigation Stars as well as our Star of the Week. We encourage the

children to understand the values and ethos that we are celebrating in giving these certificates – so to

share this with parents and families too, I am including our Hunsley Primary Characteristics of

Learning in summary below and also in detail on the back of this Newsletter:

Behaviour for Learning Working Positively Together Independent Learning and Enquiry Organisation and Communication

Our Hunsley Primary ‘Characteristics’ build upon the highly-regarded EYFS Characteristic of Effective

Learning, which we feel all children should be helped to develop as they grow through school. Each

one is in tune with our values and our learning ethos, offering children a really clear set of guidelines to

help them reach their full potential.

New £1 coin As you will be aware the old style pound coin is no longer legal tender and Hunsley Primary will therefore be unable to accept them as payment. For more information please visit https://www.thenewpoundcoin.com/ Flu Vaccination

If you have not yet returned your flu vaccination consent form please send it to the school no later

than the end of day tomorrow.
