First the basics: Welding can induce thermal stress and create potential failure points if metals are not

properly heat treated as required by code. Furmanite’s preheating and post-weld heat treatment can remove thermal and residual stresses, reducing porosity and potential cracking due to diffusible hydrogen.

In any heat treatment process, accuracy is of the utmost importance. Over-temping material or missing a required temperature variance from one material zone to the next can mean lost time, money, or worst of all, result in scrap material. At Furmanite, we understand this. Which is why we essentially reinvented the wheel when we began providing this service in 2006.

Furmanite strives to provide a seamless experience for every customer. To that end, our complete understanding of the administrative and legal requirements associated with heat treatment assure that proper documentation is secure, ready and available upon completion of every job. Data is encrypted in PDF format and stored for accurate, detailed auditing (e.g. by time segments, or thermocouples), and includes built-in fail safes to eliminate the potential for document falsifi cation.

INTEGRATED SERVICES APPROACH

Furmanite is the only heat treatment provider with engineering support services capability, such as structural

integrity and heat transfer analysis. Access to these services is an integral part of what we offer customers, not an afterthought. We also have the ability to design and engineer custom equipment to address specifi c needs.

Our thermal processing services complement our Onsite Machining, NDT/Inspection and Engineering services. Bundled, they can further reduce labor and project costs. Furmanite heat treatment crews are multi-skilled, cross-trained, and fully-qualifi ed technicians capable of performing multiple services, which can cut down on manpower, congestion, and downtime during projects. Our technician training, and continuous professional development program is unique in the industry.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Furmanite built this service line from the ground up. We did not rely on 1970s technology, like most of the industry. A proprietary design, our localized electrical resistance console is small at 25” (64 cm) x 24” (61 cm) x 35” (89 cm),

constructed from stainless steel — meant for crowded work areas and harsh conditions. Old technology was replaced by the latest PLC and SCADA software providing centralized on-site or off-site control and on average a 30% decrease in cost for customers in large scale heat treatment projects. An interchangeable system of laptop computers allows multiple 6-zone consoles to be controlled wirelessly and be monitored remotely by a single person.

We can offer a targeted solution for every application. Furmanite’s mobile, all-inclusive Heat Treating Rigs — each with a 202 kw standby (185 kw Prime) generator and a reserve of 280 gallons (1,060 liters) of diesel —

can be run with a full complement of equipment for up to 26 hours. For larger scopes or pipe runs, we can insulate and internally fi re, or build a furnace around, almost anything. Our high-velocity combustion gas trains are capable of variable output from 100,000 up to 10,000,000 BTU’s per hour.

Our induction heating system is a perfect fi t for specialized applications that require a fast startup, fast heating or high production rates. Like bolt or nut heating services to open and

close turbine shells or casings, tops ON – tops OFF, stop valves, throttle valves, boiler feed pumps, and cross-over piping. We will provide experienced and qualifi ed technicians to guarantee a safe and accurate job.

Furmanite’s state-of-the-art heat treatment equipment and software provides accuracy, precision control and advanced record keeping capabilities and combined with an overall reduction in manpower to complete the project, it is the most advanced, cost-effective and controlled means of heat treatment technology available in the fi eld today.
