Introduction - Who is Brice?

Expert fundraiser and passionate about my Catholic faith.

For the past 10 years, I have combined my faith, background in business, education in technology and experience in fundraising to present a fresh and faith-focused approach to Catholic fundraising.

5 years ago, I joined the Diocese oF Westminster and helped them raise $60m in only a few years. During this time, I was the fundraising director of Theos, theosthinktank.co.uk, one of Europe's first Christian centric think tanks, helping them triple their donors in two years.

Today, through CatholicFundraiser.net, I help over 400 Catholic organizations (collectively over $100m) navigate the ever-changing landscape of fundraising so they can continue their work confidently.

Practical Challenges

Page 14: Fundraising Workshop: How to Raise Funds in the Catholic Church

7 Practical Challenges

1. UK Public now trusts charities less than supermarkets

2. Charities are now the twelfth most trusted institutions in the UK

3. Repeated scandals in the Catholic and wider charity sector have dramatically impacted donations

4. More than 50% of Briton now don’t associate themselves with a religion

5. Giving to charities has remained stagnant over the course of 20 years (per GDP Growth)

6. No one teaches Church leaders/members how to ask, and Catholics not taught to give

7. Taxes and government subsidized work

Page 15: Fundraising Workshop: How to Raise Funds in the Catholic Church

7 Spiritual Challenges

1. Spirituality and faith have become relative

2. Each person on their own journey and accepts minimal guidance

3. Money is taboo in many circles, particular religious ones

4. Money also tied to corruption, capitalism, bad business, and greed

5. Charitable work seen as separate from rest of work

6. Volunteering seen as something done on the side, weekends, or occasionally to have the ‘feel good factor’

7. Dualistic mindset that keeps everything separate

1. How to attract people2. How to attract 1,000,0003. When to ask

Page 18: Fundraising Workshop: How to Raise Funds in the Catholic Church

How to attract?...Understand what triggers people

Fact: Everyone is created to give.

The reason someone gives has NOTHING to do with what you say, or how you say it.

It’s because you respond to something already within them.

Everyone has the following 3 characteristics:

1. “I’m worried about X.” INTERNAL2. “X is causing problems to Y.” EXTERNAL3. “Without Y, the world is coming to an end.

How will we ever change this!” - END!!!

Solution? You have a plan to help them.

How to attract 1,000,000 to you

People are attracted to charities, organizations, and individuals who have a clear and logical plan that solves their problem (internal, external, philosophical).

It can be a simple (but effective) plan.

To attract donors, simply follow 3 steps:

1. Clarify your plan/message (Be Catholic)2. Share your message 365 days a year3. Amplify your message (technology)

Check out my website for a workbook on how to do these 3 steps.
