Grants will go to organisations already delivering work that is proven to benefit individuals & society. The aim is to use a range of strategies, including opening up local spaces for community use, to make connections within communities to combat isolation. A total investment of £21 million will be made up from the UK Government, Big Lottery Fund, Co-op Foundation, Peoples Postcode Lottery & the Health Lottery. ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND – DEVELOPING YOUR CREATIVE PRACTICE

(At July 2018)

Developing your Creative Practice has been designed to support the development of independent creative practitioners working in dance, theatre, music, visual arts, literature, combined arts or museums practice. The aim is to offer practitioners the time & space to work on ambitious & innovative research & development opportunities to make a step-change in their practice. Arts Council England is looking for exciting, ambitious proposals that allow applicants to take that important next step in the way they make their work.

Awards of £2,000 - £10, 000 (from a total pot of £3.6 million per year) are made through quarterly rounds. Funded project activities can last up to one year.

Anyone who applies to Developing your Creative Practice needs to: Apply as an individual, or as a small group of practitioners who usually collaborate in their work. This could include, for example, artists who usually create work together, or writers & their translators. Organisations cannot apply, & individuals cannot apply on behalf of an organisation; Be based within (live in) England; Have a UK bank account in the exact name they’re applying in; Be at least 18 years old; Have three years’ creative practice experience outside a formal education context.

BARROW CADBURY TRUST - MIGRATION PROGRAMME

Not for profit organisations that promote positive interaction between different groups in order to counter xenophobia, racism & Islamophobia can apply for funding through the Barrow Cadbury Trust’s Migration Programme. Through its Migration Programme the Trust want to fund grassroots groups working with refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented migrants & other marginalised migrants. The Trust seek to enable grassroots groups to support the most vulnerable migrants as well as empower migrants & ensure they are not excluded from the public debate on migration.

No minimum or maximum grant amount is specified.

BLUESPARK FOUNDATION – GRANTS

Schools, colleges & community groups in England can apply for grants to BlueSpark Foundation to support the education & development of children & young people through educational, cultural, sporting & other projects. BlueSpark is particularly keen to support projects which will help enhance the self-confidence, team working skills & future employability of children & young people. In most cases grants will be made on a relatively small scale. Funding provided by BlueSpark for a project must be crucial to the project rather than marginally incremental to its funding.

Many grants will be under £2,000, most will be under £5,000 & only in a few cases will grants exceed £10,000.

The funding available can be for physical assets (such as iPads, sports equipment, or lighting for stage productions) or for services or facilities (such as sports coaching or music or drama tuition) or simply for the provision of experiences (such as theatre visits). These examples are intended to be illustrative & not restrictive as to the funding which BlueSpark may provide to support projects.

BRITISH COUNCIL – MANDARIN EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME

(At July 2018)

Applications are now invited from state schools in England to join the Mandarin Excellence Programme for 2018. The Programme aims to deliver a minimum of 5,000 speakers of Mandarin on their way to a high level of fluency by 2020. Grants are available to state-funded secondary schools that have an Ofsted rating in its most recent inspection of ‘Outstanding' or ‘Good', are committed to developing a strong curriculum presence of Mandarin Chinese & can ensure students study Mandarin for an average of 8 hours per week, with a minimum of four being made of face to face teaching time.

A minimum of £20,000 per year

Schools funded through this programme should also act as or work with a hub school, growing the number of schools & pupils in the local area on the programme; & work to ensure that pupils will be on course to complete HSK IV & V exams within 6 years of starting the programme. From Summer 2018, some pupils will have the chance to visit China.

CASH 4 CLUBS – GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY CLUBS

(At July 2018)

The programme aims to provide community sports clubs in the UK with much needed funds. No preference is given to the type of sport involved or the ages of people who will benefit from the project, but priority will be given to clubs that play an active role in their local community. Funding can be requested for anything that will add to the sustainability & effectiveness of the sports club, including buying new equipment, improving facilities or helping members to gain coaching qualifications.

Awards of £500, £750 & £1,000 are available. A special prize of £10,000 is available in 2018 to mark the tenth anniversary of the fund. There is only one top prize winner.

The fund is open to applications from any sports club in the UK as long as they are registered with their National Governing Body or local authority.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TRAINING BOARD – CONSTRUCTION SKILLS FUND

(At July 2018)

Employers, housing associations & other interested bodies such as LEPs & local authorities have 8 weeks from 18 June 2018 to submit expressions of interest to a new £22 million fund that aims to tackle the skills shortage in the construction industry. Funding will be available for up to 18 months for at least 20 existing & prospective on-site learning hubs that bring training to construction sites thus allowing learners, particularly adults, to apply their knowledge in a real-world environment.

Applications should be proportionate to the training opportunities which will be delivered within an 18-month period of funding

An on-site training hub is a physical facility which enables potential entrants to become site & employment ready. The hub would ideally be located within a large housing development or infrastructure project. Training hubs are aligned to the construction programme to enable training to be matched to employment opportunities. The model encourages collaborative partnership working with a focus on benefits to local communities.

DAN MASKELL TENNIS TRUST – FUNDING FOR DISABILITY TENNIS EQUIPMENT

The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust is now accepting applications for grants that support individuals, clubs & special schools with equipment & specialist wheelchairs to enable disabled people to play tennis. Individuals can receive support for a sports wheelchair, tennis rackets, coaching lessons with an LTA Licensed coach or course fees for official LTA development / Coaching courses. Groups can apply for wheelchairs, court hire, coaching fees & equipment packages which will include, rackets, balls, mini net, & coaching aids such as cones & throw down marker lines.

Up to £1,500 for groups & clubs & up to £500 for individuals.

In the case of wheelchairs a deposit will be required; for individuals the amount of deposit required will depend on the wheelchair type requested, clubs will need to provide a deposit of £925.

Museums & galleries across England can apply for a share of £4 million to improve displays & facilities. Funded through a partnership between the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, & the Wolfson Foundation, these grants will be used for renovation & improvement projects in 39 museums & galleries. It will allow museums & galleries to increase access, improve displays & enhance public spaces.

DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION – EARLY YEARS DISADVANTAGE GRANT

Voluntary & community groups can apply for funding from a new programme launched for projects that help disadvantaged families & children by addressing the gaps in early language & speech skills. Projects funded may, for example, be home visits from trained professionals or support for parents in reading & singing (i.e. nursery rhymes) to their children.

The minimum grant available per project will be £250,000 & there is no upper level of funding that can be applied for.

The funding will be available to organisations with a proven track record of breaking down learning barriers for children with additional needs.

DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION – TAKING TEACHING FURTHER PROGRAMME

Apprenticeships & Skills Minister Anne Milton has launched a new £5 million fund to help attract experienced industry professionals with expert technical knowledge & skills to work in Further Education (FE). The Department for Education-funded Taking Teaching Further programme will initially run for two years to test how best to encourage & support experienced industry professionals from key sectors into FE teaching, full or part-time, & to support an ongoing exchange between FE & industry so that students can gain the knowledge & skills that employers need. The programme has been designed with the Association of Colleges & the Education & Training Foundation, to create further links between the education sector & industry.

The focus will be on priority sectors, including the first T Level routes, & a fund of up to £5 million will be available.

The programme is divided into two strands: Strand 1: Financial Support for Initial Teacher Education. Financial support for up to 150 industry experts to become FE teachers, covering the course costs of teacher training as well as support & mentoring Strand 2: Industry & College/Provider Innovation projects. Support up to 40 innovative & scalable projects that help develop local partnerships & collaborations. The programme is open to all Further Education providers in England including: General & specialist colleges; National Colleges; Independent training providers; Employer-led providers; Third-sector training providers; Local authority providers Adult & community learning providers.

DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT – INSHORE & INLAND LIFEBOAT GRANTS

(At July 2018)

Lifeboat charities are being invited to bid for part of a £1 million fund supporting water rescue services in local communities. This is the fifth year of the Inshore & Inland Rescue Boat Grant scheme giving voluntary rescue groups nationwide a chance to secure funding for new lifesaving equipment. The Fund is open to UK-registered charities that operate a rescue boat in the UK. The 2018/19 Fund will contribute to costs of purchasing equipment to support rescue operations.

There is no minimum or maximum grant.

Equipment supported by the Fund last year included rescue boats & other craft (e.g. flood rescue rafts, kayaks), launch equipment & launch vehicles, personal protective equipment & other crew equipment. The Fund will not contribute more than 90% of the (ex-VAT) costs of these funded items. Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to meet the remaining 10% costs.

DM THOMAS FOUNDATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE – CENTRAL GRANTS SCHEME

(At July 2018)

Grants are available to registered charities for projects that improve education & health for young people in three key areas: Children & young people with disabilities; Children & young people who are sick in hospital; Children & young people who are life limited (requiring palliative care). The Foundation prefers to fund equipment & capital costs. Outright funding for salaries will not be considered. Grants can be awarded for refurbishment & equipment, but not for capital appeals or a new construction.

The Foundation is a small charity & generally will not make awards of over £30,000 (per year). Funding can be requested for one-off projects or for up to 2 years work.

Applications from schools & hospitals are welcomed if they are made through an appropriate registered charity. If favoured, grant applications for up to £5,000 can be approved by the Director, up to £10,000 can be approved by the Grants Committee, & applications for more than £10,000 are recommended to the Trustees for final approval. The Foundation funds projects working towards accreditation or recognised qualifications for young people. This does not include teacher training. The Foundation prefers to support training programmes working directly with the young people, where they will work towards an accreditation.

HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND – HERITAGE ENTERPRISE GRANTS

Funding of up to £5 million is available to restore historic buildings. The programme provides grants to support not-for-profit organisations in partnership with the private sector for the restoration of unused historic building & sites. The programme provides grants where historic buildings have failed to attract enough investment because the cost of their repair has not been commercially viable for private developers.

The funding is being made available through the Heritage Lottery Fund's Heritage Enterprise grants programme & two levels of grants are available. Grants of between £100,000 & under £2 million; & Grants of between £2million & £5million.

Previous projects supported include the Globe, an Art Deco ‘super theatre' in the centre of Stockton on Tees, which will be transformed from a derelict eyesore into a 2500-seater live music & comedy venue with the potential to create 64 jobs.

Grants are available to support larger national, regional & local heritage projects. A large variety of projects can be funded including projects relating to archaeological sites; collections of objects, books or documents in museums, libraries or archives; cultural traditions such as stories, festivals, crafts, music, dance & costumes; historic buildings; histories of people & communities; & histories of places & events; etc.

The funding is available to not-for-profit organisations; & partnerships led by not-for-profit organisations for any project relating to national, regional & local heritage. Heritage Grants applications go through a two-round application process. This is so that organisations can apply at an early stage of planning their project & get an idea of whether they have a good chance of getting a grant before they send a proposal in greater detail. Projects supported in the past include a grant of £730,000 to the Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust Limited to transform Richmond Station in North Yorkshire into a self-sustaining heritage & leisure attraction for the local community.

The funder aims to advance the wellbeing of people, society & the natural world. Support is available for charitable work in the arts, environment & social action. The funding provider is keenly aware of the connections between these areas & their effects on each other & on people’s health & happiness. Support is available for core funding, projects & programmes. Funding is not available for a number of things, including but not limited to: capital developments, individual items of equipment, prisons & offenders, one-off events, animal welfare, captive breeding & animal rescue centres, education, such as initiatives linked to the curriculum, arts or environmental educational projects.

The minimum grant available is £10,000. There is no maximum limit but grants over £100,000 are unusual. Most grants are for two or three years.

Funding is available to registered, excepted or exempt charities with an income of between £100,000 & £10 million, that are doing work that has a national footprint or a wide reach, such as working in more than one country, region or county. Occasionally organisations that work locally may receive funding if the work has national significance through good potential for replication or being rolled out on a larger scale. The current focus of the Foundation is to invest in disadvantaged communities that support the John Lewis business throughout the world, helping them to acquire the relevant skills required for meaningful employment The Trustees will consider projects of varying amounts & durations, although projects are not normally supported for longer than three years. The Foundation will sometimes consider a longer period or a repeat grant, for example to help a new organisation develop. Priority will be given to projects that support disadvantaged communities to acquire relevant skills for meaningful employment.

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees.

In the UK, the Foundation only gives grants to groups & organisations that are registered with the appropriate Charity Commission or where the grant is for an exclusively charitable purpose. KING’S FUND – GSK IMPACT AWARDS

The GSK IMPACT Awards provide funding, training & development for registered charities working to make a positive difference to community health in the UK. Funded by British pharmaceutical company GSK & managed in partnership with The King's Fund. The assessment is based on the achievements of the whole organisation which must be focused on community health.

The overall winner will receive 40,000 & up to 10 winners will receive £30,000, up to 10 runners-up will also receive £3,000. As part of the award, the winning charities are given the opportunity to take part in a training & development programme & join the Network of GSK IMPACT Award winners. This is valued at £8,000.

The awards are open to registered charities that are at least three years old, working in a health-related field in the UK, with a total annual income of between £80,000 & £2.5 million. Research bodies, advice agencies & groups focusing on broader social welfare work are not eligible.

Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales has published its new strategy for the next five years. Included in the ‘Reaching Further’ strategy is: A pledge to boost its additional support for the charities that it funds; The Foundation mainly funds organisations with an income of less than £1m; An increase the size of its largest grants to £200,000 over their six-year duration; A target of funding 700 charities at any one time until 2022; A pledge to offer longer, unrestricted grants to more small charities together with six-year grants with a break clause after the third year; The continuation of its advocacy work, with a particular focus on producing research & campaigning for policy changes on behalf of small charities.

Invest - Grants of a minimum of £30,000 to a maximum of £100,000, delivered across three years are available with the opportunity for continuation funding (up to six years in total). Enable - of up to a total of £15,000 across one or two years.

The Foundation offers two grant programmes: Invest grants - long-term funding for the day-to-day running of a charity (core costs), &/or the direct delivery of a charity’s work. Enable grants - grants are awarded to charities which have identified clear development needs with grants available to cover, for example, pilot initiatives, strengthening monitoring systems or creating stronger business plans & service development plans. The Lords Taverners, the UK's leading youth cricket & disability sports charity, has re-opened its Accessible Minibuses grants programme. Schools, clubs & youth organisations across the UK that cater for young people under the age of 25 who have a physical / sensory / learning disability can apply to the Lords Taverners for specially-adapted, wheelchair-accessible minibuses. Last year the Lords Taverners delivered 40 specially-adapted, wheelchair-accessible minibuses.

The average cost to the charity of an accessible minibus is over £61,000.

Examples of schools that received a specially-adapted minibus are: Lakeside School in Hertfordshire; The Garth School & the Priory School in Spalding (Lincolnshire); & Perseid School in Morden, Surrey. These vehicles give young people with disabilities access to new places & experiences. Lord's Taverners minibuses are based on the current Ford Transit model, with a diesel engine. Please note that the Lords Taverners are unable to support schools that cater for socially disadvantaged children, or mainstream schools for children with behavioural problems.

MINISTRY OF HOUSING, COMMUNITIES & LOCAL GOVERNMENT – INTEGRATED COMMUNITIES INNOVATION FUND

The fund is intended to support ‘trailblazing approaches’ to building more integrated communities in England. It aims to ‘help drive forward’ the proposals to tackle the key causes of poor integration set out in the Government’s Integrated Communities Strategy green paper published in March 2018. It will support approaches which address the breadth of factors which can lead to poor integration, including: The level & pace of migration; Labour market disadvantage; Residential segregation & segregation in schools; A lack of meaningful social mixing & certain religious & cultural values & attitudes.

The total budget is £7 million. There is no set minimum or maximum grant level.

To be eligible, applicants must: Be based in England; Be legally constituted organisations or have statutory powers; Have a registered bank account in the name of the organisation, & be able to demonstrate fair & transparent governance arrangements; Show, if working with children or vulnerable adults, appropriate safeguarding policies. Projects must meet the following: The beneficiaries must be based in England; They must be capable of being delivered to at least 300 participants during the funding period. The funding is for revenue costs only. It cannot be used for organisational salaries, PR, marketing & related events organised by the applicant.

The Ouseley Trust is a registered charity set up to promote & maintain to a high standard the choral services of the Church of England, the Church in Wales & the Church of Ireland. The Trustees’ current policy is to make grants in the following areas: Courses for individuals or groups Endowment grants for scholarships or bursaries Fees for individual choristers at recognised choir schools Purchase of liturgical music. Other projects of an innovative kind that are likely to further the object of the Trust in a direct & effective way. In very exceptional circumstances, these may include music commissions.

The largest grant they have made is £50,000 to a cathedral. The maximum they are likely to give towards fees is £5,000.

It does this by making grants to cathedrals, choral foundations, parish churches, choir schools & other relevant institutions. In EVERY case, the project for which a grant is sought must have a direct bearing on the promotion & maintenance to a high standard of choral services. Under normal circumstances, grants will not be awarded for building projects, the making of recordings, the purchase of furniture or liturgical objects, the repair of organs, the purchase of pianos, the design or acquisition of robes, or tours & visits.

The Police Property Act Fund is a joint fund managed by the PCC & the Chief Constable & is distributed to local community & voluntary groups. The Fund is created from money recovered by the police & the proceeds from the sale of items that cannot be returned to identified owners, which includes seizures from criminals & is distributed twice a year.

Grants of £1,500 to £6,000 are available from a total pot of £100,000.

Each funding round involves a grant application form where applicants are required to evidence how they help to achieve a specific objective of the PCCs Police & Crime Plan, previous rounds have included 'reducing reoffending' & 'protecting vulnerable people'. ROSA – JUSTICE & EQUALITY FUND

Rosa, a charitable fund set up to support initiatives that benefit women & girls in the UK has announced that as part of the new Justice & Equality Fund, it has opened two new funding programmes: The Advice & Support Programme: & The Changing the Conversation Programme. The Advice & Support programme will invest up to £1 million in total for work in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales, to increase access to support, signposting & expert legal advice for people who have experienced sexual harassment & abuse. Rosa is also welcoming applications from specialist organisations providing emotional support to survivors.

The Advice & Support programme Grants between £25,000 & £200,000 in total over one to three years mostly for revenue costs for new work or an extension of existing work The Changing the Conversation programme Rosa are allocating up to £250K for this work in year one, to support expanded communications capacity in up to eight specialist organisations

The Changing the Conversation programme will offer development grants to eligible organisations to develop a strategic communications network that aims to build the capacity of organisations already working to raise awareness of the impact of harassment & abuse, challenge the current culture of impunity & to prevent both from happening in the first instance.

The fund aims to address one the key challenges for early stage social ventures: getting to access to capital. The UnLtd Impact Fund offers unsecured business loans at an interest rate of 9.5% repayable over a maximum of five-years, with all Fund profits reinvested to support more social ventures. The Impact Fund will invest in around 35 social ventures over the next three-years. Initially, the UnLtd Impact Fund is looking to support social ventures tackling challenges related to training & employment - including school leavers & apprenticeships, further & higher education, unemployment & underemployment, & supporting those distant from the labour market.

Social ventures will be offered access to between £50,000 & £150,000 (as well as business support) of debt investment, which will include an element of grant funding. The level of grant funding is decided on a case-by-case basis, but it is expected to be an additional 15% of the loan amount.

To apply you must be: Based in England; Focused on employment or employability; An incorporated voluntary, community or social enterprise organisation; Typically have been operating for at least 21 months; Have a trading & social impact track record In order to apply, applicants need to complete an Expression of Interest through the UnLtd website. WOLFSON FOUNDATION – HEALTH & DISABILITY GRANTS

(At July 2018)

The Wolfson Foundation funds new buildings, refurbishments & equipment for a range of organisations delivering excellent health care & support. This funding tends to focus on enhancing care, providing better opportunities & improving quality of life. The Foundation has awarded over £35 million to more than 200 different organisations over the last ten years. The Foundation’s funding in this area is focussed on three themes: Palliative Care & Hospices; Older People; & Transitions & Independence.

£15,000 - £100,000 Match funding is required for projects over £50,000.

They encourage applications from all parts of the UK, especially regions that have few alternative sources of funding. They do not provide funding for clinical care which might be considered the proper responsibility of the National Health Service (e.g. refurbishment of hospital wards or other facilities, or provision of surgical equipment).

There is a two stage application process. Stage 1

The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government has established a national Windrush Day which will be backed by a £500,000 fund. Communities Minister Lord Bourne has announced that a national Windrush Day backed by new Government funding will take place on 22 June every year, encouraging communities across the country to celebrate the contribution of the Windrush Generation & their descendants. The event will be overseen by a body of British Caribbean representatives & a Windrush Day grant of up to £500,000 will be available each year to charities & communities who wish to hold commemorative & educational events. We await further details of the fund.

The Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales has announced a new funding strategy. “Reaching Further”, underlines the Foundation’s commitment to partnering with small & local charities to help people overcome complex social issues & rebuild their lives over the next five years. The strategy includes a pledge to make more unrestricted grants over longer terms to more small charities…more info
