Once an LOI has been accepted, users who have not registered with ORCID will once again receive instructions to link their accounts when they attempt to access a draft of their applications.
If they attempt to access their application draft before registering with ORCID, a warning message will appear and they will not be able to access their draft until they have complied with the ORCID requirement.
PI’s are required to register with ORCID prior to beginning their application, however other key personnel are not.
While adding Key Personnel, the system will alert the PI as to who is already registered with ORCID and who will need to register before AS will review their application.
ORCID is not required for Consultants, which is recognized by the system.
Once a PI is ready to submit, they are once again alerted that their key personnel who have not yet linked their AS and ORCID accounts will receive instructions as to how to do so.
A similar notification is presented to the organization’s grants official once the application is formally submitted by the institution.

• Compliance– 387 linked profiles – Have begun reaching out to current grantees – not mandatory to sign up– We include ORCID info when requesting progress/final/outcome reports
• Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellows – Recent awardees whose applications were approved before ORCID integration went live– Language/instructions included in award notice and grant agreement– Initial compliance was mediocre, requiring some reminders. Eventually full compliance was achieved
• GI/Neurobehavior RFA– First RFA with ORCID requirement language included at release, no issues– Lesson: Decision to require ORCID pre-review is validated
• Negative feedback from investigators– One person
• Addition of ORCID public profiles to Grants Search results• Biosketches derived/updated from ORCID profile• Pre-populated progress/final reports• Reporting review activity to ORCID• Integration with other systems to track ROI
