Sideway is a bar & venue built for music events, after-work socials and private hire. Our focus is on carefully curated drinks, select soundtracks, and personable service. Our team can help you imagine and execute a wide range of happenings — something as simple as Thursday and Friday knock offs to corporate functions and private parties.

Our standard public hours are Thursday & Friday from 5pm and Saturday from 10pm. During these hours we serve a rotating list of beers, wines and cocktails and program music ranging from live bands to dance DJs on a local, interstate and international scale.

Our venue is available for group reservations within these hours depending on the type of hire. Outside of them, the space can be fully yours.

Sideway is at Level 1, 21 East Row in the heart of the Sydney Building. We are 3 minutes from the Alinga St Tram stop, sit right above the bus interchange, and are walking distance from most Civic based offices.

There is ample parking accessible from London Circuit in the car parks facing the front sides of the Sydney & Melbourne buildings.

Our signage is minimal, if you do find yourself lost we sit between Alice’s Thai Restaurant and the Street University.

Sideway is fully licensed and has an official capacity of 123.

Seating and standing room inside is plentiful. We have booth, banquette, bar, and high table options as well as communal bleacher seating.

Our soundsystem is locally sourced, custom built, and sounds incredible. It was designed by the talented technicians at Communi-Fi Sound and Cowan Audio. We appreciate listening to music through high fidelity speakers and hope you will too.

Sideway is without a kitchen but not without options. Napoli style pizza can be ordered directly at the bar and arrives quickly from Solita Pizzeria. Full catering options can easily be arranged through the kind folk at Tree Eighty3, and bar snacks are on us.

For the ideal decompression with your colleagues after work, sideway offers a relaxed atmosphere, great music and affordable drinks. Thursday and Friday afternoons with your team, branch or whole floor are perfectly suited to the venue.

Our drinks list features a mix of the new and the classic, and reflects our view of the best wines, beers, and spirits currently on offer.

We are happy to work with groups of any size, but do ask for notice for groups of 15 or more so we can reserve space accordingly.

Bar tabs are customisable to preference, and for every $1000 spent we provide 5 complimentary pizzas.

Outside of public hours the entire venue is available for hire. Corporate functions, birthdays, engagements - you name it, we’ve got you covered.

The venue is free to hire:

Sat anytime before 10pm Sun - Wed anytime

Full use of the venue is available on Thursday and Friday afternoons, but please contact us prior to make sure.

Our standard cost for private hire is a $2500 minimum spend. Flexibility is possible depending on the size of the event.

Catering and customised menus are easily arrangable, don’t hesistate to ask!
