What is scotopically enhanced lighting?

Conventional lighting products mostly ignore color tempera-ture and spectral balance while focusing on photopic light output and energy e�ciency. Scotopic lighting focuses on the subject’s response to light and its e�ects. Reduced glare, increased visual acuity, and circadian rhythms are all a�ected by the spectrum of light.

When using bright light or light therapy devices for treating SAD full spectrum light is not only critical, it is more e�ective. Our eyes see de�nition and color through the lighting environment we are placed in.

Night time vision, which uses narrow “rods”, views the environment mono-chromatically, or in gray scale. Daytime vision is made e�ective by the use of wider “cones” in they eyes. We see details as light is re�ected o� each object. The brighter the light, the more we can see. The more we see, the greater the require-ment for clarity and contrast. This is done by superior quality of our HD full spectrum lighting that duplicates the visible wavelengths of sunlight at noon and uses both high clarity and balanced color phosphors.

The UltraLux® torchiere offers a

safe, energy-efficient alternative to

conventional 300 watt halogen

torchieres. These standing floor

lamps use a 70 watt full spectrum

tri-phosphor fluorescent bulb, and

are available in the six beautiful

models shown. The fixture’s

dimmable switch allows for variable

lighting with distinct levels of light

ranging from 1,000 to 4,290 lumens.

The balanced lamp design configu-

ration offers uniform light distribu-

tion at any setting. With the lamp on

high, the fixture will deliver light as

bright as most 300 watt halogens.

At an electric rate of $0.14 per kilowatt

hour, the cost of using one 300 watt

halogen torchiere for 5 hours per day

is about $85.00 annually. In compari-

son, the UltraLux® full spectrum

compact fluorescent torchiere will

only use about $14.00 of electricity

during the year.

The Berkeley Lamp II was developed by Full Spectrum Solutions in partnership with the California Lighting Technology Center at the University of California, Davis with support from California utilities and funding from the California Commissino's PIER Program, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

The original Berkeley Lamp was devel-oped as a high-quality, energy-e�cient alternative to overhead lighting. The lighting system increases visibility while reducing energy use by allowing the overhead lighting system to be turned down or o�. Although originally developed for hospi-tality and residential applications, further studies have shown similar bene�ts in small commercial and home o�ces as it is ideally suited for computer tasks.

The Berkeley Lamp II has been devel-oped based on the success of the original Berkeley Lamp but engineered with improved optics, performance and reliability.

The Berkeley Lamp II combines task and ambient lighting all under one shade. Added convenience of a bonus 120v power outlet at the base of the lamp, and quality dimming technology adjusts both 91 CRI bulbs independently from 100–20% for maximum comfort. It has been designed to �t any aesthetic with multiple shades, and two color temperature bulbs available (5500K & 3500K).
