Travel with a Purpose Rishikesh, India, Rishikesh, 18-27 March 2017

Are you a yogi with an open, adventurous heart? Do you long for far away, magical destinations off the beaten path? Do you want a yoga experience that is more than just asana, but a life-changing opportunity to truly live the yogic principles of love, compassion and devotion to others? Are you ready to join us for the “next step”?

This is an invitation to those of you, who feel that longing.

As yogis, it is our sacred duty to spread our light and lift others up where we have the capacity to do so. “Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India seva was believed to help one’s spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community. This is the art of giving with no need to receive, where the act itself is a gift to everyone involved. Seva is the art of blessed action.Ram Dass explains this beautifully: “Helping out is not some special skill. It is not the domain of rare individuals. It is not confined to a single part of our lives. We simply heed the call of that natural impulse within and follow it where it leads us.”Despite our seemingly unlimited capacity to connect, it’s very easy to feel limited in a world of dynamic change. Asking questions like “Can I really make a difference?” or “How am I supposed to help?” only serve to delay or avoid action. With Seva, the only answer you need is YES.Yes, I can help. Yes, I will do this. Yes, this is possible.Travel with a Purpose is about taking your yoga out into the world, not only for a deep, personal experience, but to give back and help those who need it most.

Besides intense asana practices with reknown teachers, satsangs and philosophy with yogic masters, chanting and meditation, our yoga retreats will give you the opportunity to perform seva (selfless service) at one of the various charity projects we are supporting around the world.

Teach a child how to play a new game at an orphange or help plant an organic garden in Rishikesh, India, work with an ex-child soldier on his homework in Kampala, Uganda, or just sit and meditate with a group of kids in Grenada, West Indies.

TWP – INDIA, MARCH 18-27th, 2017Be a spiritual pioneer and join us for the inaugural Travel with a Purpose Retreat as we make an un-forgettable pilgrimage to the sacred and mystical land of India, the birthplace of yoga and the cradle of human consciousness. Our 10-day journey will begin in the sacred city of Rishikesh. Nestled in a forested valley along the banks of the holy Ganges river, and known as the „Gateway to the Himalayas“, Rishikesh is the home to hundreds of ashrams, temples, and spiritual seekers, and is considered the Yoga Capital of the World.

For the first 5 days (March 18-22nd), we will practice asana, listen to satsangs by Mooji or Prem Baba, meditate by the banks of the Ganges, and practice Seva by working 2-3 hours per day with the children of the Ramana’s Garden Children’s Home in Tapovan.

For part two of our journey (March 22-27th), we will head closer to the Himalayas and take a 2-hour trip via mini-bus into the mountains of Kodiya District to Ramana’s summer camp, Ambiya Paradise Farm. Here, in addition to our daily practices, we will help till the land and plant organic crops, which are used to feed the children and for Ramana’s own organic cafe.

THE DETAILS

SEVA Ramana’s GardenCreated in 1994, Ramana’s Garden is home to over 60 at-risk children and a free English medium school for over 160 students from Ramana’s Garden and local underprivileged families. The school provides classes from kindergarten to eighth grade.Every child that comes through Ramana’s gate is there because they would be at risk of either being murdered, forced into prostitution, child labour, begging, starvation or total neglect if they weren’t here.

Millions of Indian children are in dangerous circumstances due to having been born into the cycle of poverty, ignorance, and homelessness. Ramana’s Garden is working to rescue as many of them as pos-sible. The Need is Great…”We can’t change India but we can make a difference for one child at a time.” – Deva Dwahba, Founder.

What these children need most is love and attention. In the lead-up to our journey, we will ask each participant to think of an activity they would like to do with the kids. Each day, you will work with a new group of up to 20 children on that activity. Choose something that is close to your heart and is creative and engaging for the kids. Here are some ideas:Teach them to sing a song / teach them a dance / create an art project / jewelry making (maybe bring beads, string, etc.) / bring games and play that game with them / do yoga / teach them an instrumentetc.

Ambiya Paradise Organic FarmLocated deep in the oldest conifer-pine forest in the state, and part of the former hunting lodge and orchards of King of Tehri, Abiya Organic Farm is an off-the-grid paradise. The orchard was revitalized and the vacant terraces put under cultivation, producing heaps of yummy organic veggies to supply not only the kids, but also Ramana’s Organic Café.Ambiya shares it’s forest with plenty of wildlife, mostly endangered by what was previously rampant poaching, including Leopards, mink, mountain goats, deer, quail, bears, fox, and ancient 300-year-old trees.

There is lots to do at Ambiya as the planting season will be upon us when we arrive. We will work for 2-3 hours per day in the gardens, or around the lodge as they are also making renovations to improve the farm’s infrastructure. Feeling your hands in the dirt, connecting with Mother Earth, and communing with the wildlife in a peaceful mountain setting will help us reconnect to our true natures.

YOGAWe will enjoy 2 yoga asana classes per day, taught by the powerful yoga team of Adam Rice and Ariella Futral.

SATSANGRishikesh is the winter home of many Sadhus and yogic masters, such as Mooji and Prem Baba. We will attend daily satsangs, or spiritual teachings, by these sages as a way of receiving direction and practi-cal answers to the challenges of our daily lives based on yogic principles. (insert link to talk by Mooji or Prem Baba)

KIRTANRishikesh is also at the musical heart of India. People from all over the world come here to learn to play the tabla, sittar or harmonium. Kirtan is the recitation of mantras (usually in sanskrit) in a call-and-re-sponse format. It’s a powerful form of meditation and prayer, which has the ability to affect the body on a deep energetic level to help us move through difficulties, heal old wounds, become more pros-perous, or perhaps make our life’s purpose more clear. We will have several opportunities to attend Kirtan performances in and around Rishikesh.

MEDITATIONIt is in meditation that the true gifts of yoga lie. During our journey, we will practice various forms of meditations including many of the „active“ meditations created by the great sage Bagwan Osho, as well as experiencing the serenity of a silent sitting meditation on the banks of the Ganges, and walking meditation in the hills and forests around Rishikesh.
