It has been roy privilege to bring messages at the new church in the BishopLavis township which is now meeting in a school building, and also to seeseveral of them baptized in Princess Vlei, an inland lake on the Cape Peninsula.I spoke to them about their new life in Christ, and encouraged them to grow inthe faith which had brought them to Christ. I have taken some slides of thebaptisms, and will be including them in the set to send over to you which is nownearly complete.

Last Wednesday our usual study at the Zana home in Guguletu was moved to the homeof "Aunt Lena" who was celebrating her 57th birthday. Some of the brethrenbrought testimonies and words of encouragement to her, while I brought a messagefrom Psalm 90." We also had time ^or-some—interesting discussion as we walked

through Guguletu in the evening.

We have recently made some visits to Groote Schuur Hospital to visit some folk whowere ill. A cousin of Brother Dunjua passed away there, and we visited the homein Kraaifontein to bring a message of comfort and encouragement to the family. •.

Last Lord's Day we made a trip to Ashton together with Brothers Dunjua and Matutu. Our journey carried us through Stellenbosch, over the mountains via Du Toit'sKloof, through Worcester and the Hex River valley, and then through the littlevillage of Robertson on to the De Wet farm. After a short visit in the home wewent to their new building for the worship service which was attended by folk fromthe whole area. I brought a message on "CHRISTIAN UNITY," and Brother James led inthe Communion Meditation. 2 came forward to accept Christ as Savior. BrotherMaase the local minister is arranging their baptism. After a svimtuous lunch inthe traditional farm manner we journeyed home via the southern route through theBree River valley, Villiersdorp and Viljoeri's pass; then via the Nuweberg mountains,on through the apple orchards of Grabouw-, and finally on to the Steenbras river, over Sir Lowry's Pass and on down to Somerset West.

Lord willing we shall be making an extended trip each month to surrounding areas, such as Laingsburg, Beaufort West, Mbekweni, George, Orchard, Knysna, Bonnievale.

At our lunch-time studies at the Farmers Co6p we are now meUcing summary studies ofeach book of the Bible, and are presently on H SAMUEL, while at home I am preparingan Afrikaans trcinslation of my study on "THEOLOGIANS OF OUR TIME."

At Uitsig last Monday I brought a lesson on the Book of JOB, while Brother Dunjuavisited at the Mailie home in Ravensmead. I also brought a short message andprayer there on ny return. Brother Mailie now has a security job at the Capetonianhotel, but is still drinking on week-ends. Please continue to pray for him.

This morning I brought a message on "THE LOVE OF GOD" at Guguletu, and led in theCommunion Meditation (1 John3). Later at tlie Ntobi home in Bishop Lavis I broughta message on "THE BRAZEN SERPENT'.' Brother Ntobi did visit his family last week, but is now living and working in Herman\is. Please remember him also in yourprayers.

A huge new township is going up on the outskirts of Cape Town, called KYALITSHA;(New home); and with it a new door is opening for the proclamation of the preciousgospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray with us that the gospel may go outthere with great power and conviction to the honor and glory of His name.

Thanks once again for your prayers and support for the outreach of the gospel inthese difficult and critical days for South Africa. A set of slides has beensent out and we hope to follow this with another set in the near future.

Recently I brought a lesson in Ravensmead on "THE LETTER TO LAODICEA" whileUitsig we continued our study of the PSALMS.

Lunch-time Bible lessons at the Farmer's Co-op this past week centered on thebook of JEREMIAH, as we continued our outline studies of Bible Books.

I visited our church at MFULENI one Sunday, and brought a Communion Meditationthere. I also had a chat with Brother David Matutu who is now living in the

church building to protect it from the rioters. He is willing to translate myBible lessons into XHOSA, and will be starting soon. At the moment I am busypreparing a set of studies from J.S. Baxter's "EXPLORE THE BOOK."

MITCHELL'S PLAIN has been the scene of burning barricades in the streets, stoningof traffic lights, and police intervention with casualties on both sides. Oneof the young men who died was a relative of Brother James Dunjua. I went tovisit the family during the week and brought a message at>;the funeral on Saturday.

We have also made some visits to the hospitals in the Peninsula to bring scripture, messages and have prayers to some known to us.

Timothy and I are planning. Lord willing, to attend our annual Christian Conventionwhich is scheduled for Port Elizabeth later this month. The theme for this year'sconvention is': "LET US ARISE AND BUILD."

We praise the Lord for three more who are to be baptized from the GUGULETU andBISHOP LAVIS areas. Because of the unrest the Brethren at Guguletu have warnedme not to come into Guguletu at this time. This is to protect both me and themfrom possible attacks from the riot gangs. The BISHOP LAVIS schools have beenclosed to the church meeting there and they will be meeting with the GUGULETUcongregation at the home of Brother Matutu for the time being. Please pray for them

While visiting a hospital in Manenberg we were told that rioters had stoned aPepsi-Cola delivery truck, chased away the driver, and looted and burned thetruck just across from the hospital. On our way home the side of the roadwhich we had just come up was blocked by burning tyres. A minister known tous was arrested while attempting to calm down the marchers- to Pollsmoor prisonhere in Cape Town. Riots and burnings broke out in the suburb of Retreat last

week, and there are hints of more trouble to come.

What must our stand be in times like these? For our part we are convincedthat all of this is part of a much larger struggle — that between Christ andthe Devil. Paul says, "W^e wrestle not against flesh and blood, but againstthe forces of spiritual wickedness in high places." Therefore it is our taskto strongly defend and proclaim the faith once and for all delivered to God's-people, and to stand firm in the face of every onslaught of the evil one.

We plead with you, brethren, to stand behind us in this. Fulfil your task asPrayer warriors with us here in the spirit. For the battle is not ours- alone;it is yours as well, and ultimately it is the Lord's. Through. Him we have theassurance of victory. May God bless and Strengthen you.

I thank the Lord for each of you; for your faith and trust in Him, and yourdedication to the proclamation of the gospel around the world. My special thanksgoes to Bryce and Judy Morgan who are serving so faithfully as forwarding agents.•Please continue praying for Bryce who is still suffering with ill health.

God has given to Timothy and me the privilege of attending our Convention heldin Port Elizabeth this year. Timothy brought a message on the Holy Spirit, andI brought some outline studies on the Bible, with leasons printed in English,Afrikaans and Xhosa. It was our joy to visit several of the brethren in theGelvandale area on Sunday afternoon, and at the evening service there I preachedon "CHRISTIAN UNITY" Then, after the service, two of the brethren — David Draaiand Brother Bosman — who had not been speaking to each other, came together andshook hands. I praise God because this will greatly help the chiirches in thatarea. Please join me in praying for them as well. The brethren have^ also askedme to come back for a series of meetings next year.

Upon my return I made a visit to MFULENI — first to the home of Brother Nokwana, and then to the church. Brother Miles Koeberg brought the Communion Meditationand I led in prayer. We had plans for visiting the MlffiKWENI township- near Paarlyesterday, but they had to be shelved due to rioting there and the STATE OF EMERGENCYwhich is now in force in the Cape Town area as well. If conditions improve I hopeto visit GRAAFF REINET with-Brother Koeberg next month.

GUGULETU has been especially hard hit by the riots, and as a result I was warned tocome in only by the factory side entrance. I brought a message on "A DOOR OPENED INheaven" from the book of Revelation, eind emphasized that all things were under God'scontrol. Brother Matutu said that there was a strong feeling against white people inGuguletu. His son, David, will soon be starting a teaphing program here.

The BISHOP LAVIS congregation is now meeting at the home of Brother James Dunjua inMITCHELL'S PLAIN. I had the opportunity to preach there recently, and was muchimpressed by their joy in the Lord, their spontaneous testimonies, and the richfellowship which they share with each other. What an excimple for all of us I

•An ANGLICAN PRIEST asked me to bring a Bible Message to their congregation in PORTIANDSlast week. I brought a message on "SUFFERING" from J PETER, and afterwards--Id peoplecame forward for prayer. I have also been asked to bring regular Monday eveninglessons to their Outreach Group starting in January. Praise God for another open door.

At the FARMERS' CO-OP our Lunchtime Bible lessons are now centred on the MINORPROPHETS; with lessons last week on JOEL, AMOS, OBADIAH and JONAH. It is thrillingto see the students respond to the ever-living messages of the prophets.

Last Thursday at our regular lesson at Montevideo S.treet we spoke on ACTS 2 and sawonce again how the church begam. Sister Citto's father joined us at our men'stheological study afterwards on "CHRIST AND TIME."

We were once again witnesses to the burning of tyres and the presence of theDefence Force in Athlone — testimony to the fact that we a,j!e living in troublesometimes. Yet God is still in control; and those who faithfully proclaim His word willbe more than conquerors through Him who loves us. May God be w-ith you,. And as youenter this time of thanksgiving and Christmas may you be ever more -mindful of Hisrich blessings, especially His unspeakable gift of salvation through Christ.
