Mr. Mayhew then transferred to Kansas State University where he completed his Master’s Degree in Financial Planning. He is a Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor.
He started his work career with The Western Insurance Companies of Fort Scott and was transferred around the country to various offices by Western and successor companies. He has worked internationally as a business consultant for a corporation in Paris, France as they adopted a new computer program, and developed microcomputer software. He has also taught insurance and financial planning classes at Washington University in the LLI program. Richard published the book Manage Your Money Like Warren Buffett, which was inspired by the lunch meeting he and his wife, Shelly, had with Buffett in 2006. He also has written several articles which were published in various business and insurance publications, and published an online blog containing personal finance information. He wrote and contributed a chapter of the book Of Permanent Value, The Story of Warren Buffett by Andrew Kilpatrick on The Western Insurance Companies. His volunteer activities include the Big Brother Little Brother program, commissioner on the Fenton, Missouri Planning and Zoning board, Trustee for various entities, as well as Boy Scout review boards and several charity volunteer activities. He is Co-Executive Director on the film The Shadow Man: The Sammy Nestico Story. “I have a feeling there are more accomplished graduates, but I doubt there are many who appreciate FSCC as much as I do. It was a formative time in my life, and it turned out that FSCC was the perfect place for me. I will always be grateful,” Mayhew said. Richard lives in Fenton, Missouri, with his wife Shelly.
