FSB University of Zagreb Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture Department of Energy, Power and Environmental Engineering NUMAP-FOAM Summer School CFD@FSB 8 th Floor CFD Team foam-extend development and support The team was founded in 2014 by profes- sor Hrvoje Jasak at the Faculty of Mechan- ical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb. We have 8 members working at the Faculty and many associates across the globe. The members of the team work- ing in Zagreb are: Professor Hrvoje Jasak Professor ˇ Zeljko Tukovi´ c Dr. Henrik Rusche, associate Dr. Vuko Vukˇ cevi´ c, Postdoc Gregor Cvijeti´ c, PhD Student Inno Gatin, PhD Student Robert Keser, PhD Student Vanja ˇ Skuri´ c, PhD Student Tessa Uroi´ c, PhD Student We are experts in various fields of com- putational fluid dynamics (CFD), develop- ing and using the open source package foam-extend for: Naval hydrodynamics simulations – calm water resistance – general marine hydrodynamics (sea- keeping, wave loading, self propulsion, manoeuvring, sediment transport and scour) Turbomachinery simulations – centrifugal pumps – compressors – fans, propellers – wind turbines External aerodynamics simulations – car aerodynamics – airplane aerodynamics: airfoils, wings Geometry optimisation HVAC - heating, ventilation and air condi- tioning, cooling Fuel cells simulations The 13th edition of the School on Nu- merical Modelling of Coupled Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFOAM (NUMAP-FOAM) is opened to graduate students, young researchers and industrial researchers. Description The School aims to provide tuition at ex- pert level for a small and selected group of students and researchers in academia and industry. The idea of the NUMAP- FOAM School is to expand the physical modelling knowledge, numerics and programming skills of attendees using OpenFOAM in their research through di- rect supervision and one-to-one project work. Lectures on chosen topics of math- ematical and numerical modelling pertinent to coupled problems in engineering and applied physics will be delivered in addition. To ensure quality of work and supervision, the number of places is strictly limited. For further references, please contact the organisers or one of more than 150 alumni of previous editions of the School. ”OpenFOAM computational library is a powerful and complex set of tools, with a steep learning curve. The possibility of working with the (really) skilled developers, focused in specific objectives, is the best ap- proach to speed up any envisaged developments. Moreover, the inter- action with other NUMAP attendees, working in different areas, is also a great way to enlarge ones skills in OpenFOAM. In summary I would say that NUMAP School is the best way to significantly increase ones rate of convergence to OpenFOAM knowledge. P.S. I also keep very good memories from the trip done during the week- end...” Jo˜ ao Miguel N ´ obrega, Summer School 2014 PROJECT: Fractional viscoelasticity constitutive models Place and Time The 2018 edition of NUMAP-FOAM shall take place between Monday, 20 th August and Friday, 31 st August 2018, inclusive (10 working days). The School shall be held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Ivana Luˇ ci´ ca 5, Zagreb, Croatia. Topic Areas Students are invited to propose their own topics for the School. Preference shall be given to projects which require complex pro- gramming tasks in OpenFOAM, advanced C++ and software engineering and imple- mentation of complex and coupled physi- cal models in OpenFOAM. Special topics for this years Summer School are: naval hydrodynamics, solidification / phase change, higher order discretisation methods. How to Apply To apply, please write a one-page descrip- tion of the project you wish to work on, with current problems and goals to be achieved at the School. Application is open to all students on graduate University courses, as well as young researchers in companies and government organisations with suffi- cient prior OpenFOAM knowledge. Please note this is NOT an introductory Open- FOAM course: significant understanding of the project and software is a pre-requisite for application. Deadline for application is 1 st May 2018. Successful candidates will be informed within three weeks of closing. Accommodation and Costs Attendees to the School should plan to cover their travel and accommodation ex- penses, ideally bringing a laptop computer with them. A registration fee for the School is EUR 2000 per attendee. Contact Details For further details and submission of project proposals, please contact prof. Hrvoje Jasak at [email protected]. For local organisational details please contact NUMAP-FOAM Secretary Mrs. Silvana ˇ Skoko-Gavranovi´ c at silvana.skoko- [email protected].
