Frustrated with your monitor

Frustrated with your Monitor? : Follow these

First find the power button on the monitor screen. The power button is usually located on the bottom right of the monitor.

1. Your monitor could

just be “sleeping” or saving power. To check this, check the monitor’s power button. If the power button is colored orange, this means that it is “sleeping”.

So if there is an orange light coming from the monitor’s power button, move your mouse around or press a button on the keyboard. This should power up your monitor’s screen immediately.

If your computer is on, then check to see if your monitor’s power button has a green light. If there is no light here, press this button in order to turn on your monitor.

If the monitor still doesn’t turn on, make sure your computer is on by checking to see if the system unit’s power button has a green light. If there is no light on the system unit’s power button, press the power button to turn the computer on.

If the computer itself does not turn on, follow the power cord to check to see if the computer is plugged in.

Most computer labs on the university have a system where it is incredibly difficult to unplug a computer, so you should not have a problem. If you can’t reach the plug in and it is not plugged in, find a UITS staff member to help you.

The computer monitor needs its own power supply, so make sure that you check to see if the monitor is plugged in.

Follow the power cord to see if it is plugged in.

5.

If your computer monitor is still not working, restart your computer completely by pressing the power button on the system unit, wait 10 seconds, and then press the power button to power it back up.

6.

If your computer is still having problems, check to see if the cables protruding out of the back are still plugged in and tight.

If they are loose and you can’t get them to stay, contact a UITS or ETS (in the SOE) staff member to help you.

7.

If your monitor is still not working, make sure it is connected by a cable to the system unit at the monitor port.

8.

If you are still having problems with your monitor, contact a UITS staff member or an ETS staff member if you are in the School of Education.
