OLD GROWTH HIKE Have you ever wondered how old some of the forests are surrounding your home? Come out on Saturday,
September 15th and see for yourself one of the most remote old growth forests on Tug Hill. Tug Hill Tomorrow
Land Trust will be hosting the Old Growth Hike, led by naturalist Robert McNamara, beginning at 10am at the
Salmon River Fishing Access Site in Osceola, NY.
The hike will be approximately four miles of off-trail hiking over moderately difficult terrain in the detached Forest
Preserve land, through late successional forests and along beaver flows. This hike is an excellent opportunity to hike
through extremely remote and beautiful forests. The hike will also be a perfect chance to see the stunning fall colors.
The event is free and open to the public.

6th Annual Race with the Wind The Lewis County Department of Recreational Trails and the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce presents the
"6th Annual Race with the Wind Mountain and Cross Bike Race on Sunday, September 16, 2012. The race offers
two different routes, with the 46-mile endurance race and the 10-mile community race, which is great for beginners
and families. Both routes will take place off-road with some single-track trails under the shadows of the largest wind
farm east of the Mississippi on the Tug Hill Plateau in Lewis County, NY. The routes are surrounded by the natural
beauty that Lewis County has to offer, from the evergreen and hardwood forests to the natural wildlife.
Registration begins at 8:30am on the morning of the race at the Maple Ridge Wind Farm Welcome Center on Eagle
Factory Road, Lowville. The registration fee for the 46-mile race is $35 and $20 for the 10-mile community race.
Racers 18 and under are free. The 46-mile race starts at 10:00am, while the community race will start at 10:30am.
Whether you’re looking for an intense 46-mile ride or a 10-mile family fun ride, this race offers it all plus a thrilling
setting. So come “Race with the Wind” on September 15, 2012.

Family Farms Art Show “Celebrating Family Farms of the Tug Hill Region” is the title of the traveling art exhibit portraying local, working
farm families ranging from dairy to beekeeping to maple sugaring. Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT)
worked with Loretta on this project to raise awareness and appreciation of the importance of family farms on Tug
Hill. The land trust is continuously working with farmers to place conservation easements on their farms to ensure
their land is always available for farming. You can browse the beautiful Family Farms collection from 10 am to 1
pm, and while there, enjoy a delicious brunch at the picturesque Tug Hill Vineyards.
