The Client: A leading American manufacturer of basic workwear who had acquired a small

European manufacturer of protective workwear.

Scope: Our client was considering entering the European market with their existing

American product range and expanding their newly acquired European portfolio.

Although (by acquisition) they were now present in Europe they felt very much in the dark

with regards to a thorough understanding of European market challenges and the real

opportunities.

Our Approach: We researched a pre-defined number of countries and carried out market attractiveness analysis by country.

Factors taken into account included:• Market size and growth• Potential market share• Market drivers and restraints • Brand recognition/loyalty• Propensity to switch suppliers• Customisation versus off-the-shelf garments• Garment materials• Awareness of European norms and protective requirements• Decision making process• Wearers’ influence on choice of products etc.).

Outcome: We established the countries that were most attractive to our client and recommended:

■The most suitable positioning ■ Routes to market ■ Product lines ■ Target customers.

This was presented and discussed during a workshop with our client’s Board and key stakeholders.

Once the marketing strategies were in place we supported our client with the generation of sales leads within the chosen

countries - resulting in a conversion rate of 10%.
