Front Cover

I started off with the above photo. I liked the way the colours from the image stood out against the black background and decided I wanted to keep it like this on the front cover. Therefore I created an A4 canvas and using the fill tool filled it black.

Using dafont.com to find an appropriate font I print screened it and copied it onto Photoshop. I then used the magic wand tool to select the text so I could colour it before putting it on the front cover.

I followed the same steps as I did previously to add a tagline to the front cover.

Next I went onto Google and found an image of a barcode that I could use on my magazine. I cut it out on Photoshop using the select tool and then pasted it onto the front cover.

I didn’t like the way the barcode looked on its own so I added a small dark blue box behind it so it fitted in with the rest of the cover a little better. I changed the opacity to 23% because it looked to bright at 100% and it made the barcode stand out too much.

Using the same steps as I have donepreviously to add text I added the artists name to the magazine. I positioned them so that they weren’t in a straight line as I wanted to add some visual differences to the cover.

I decided that the font for ‘Steff and Zoe’ should be different from the font for ‘Mutual Friends’ because it would add some detail to the cover as if everything was in the same font it would look plain. I found a calligraphy font on dafont.com and using the same steps as I have done previously I copied it onto the magazine.

For the pull quote I used the same font ‘Justus’ but added a bevel and emboss effect to it to make it stand out from the ‘Mutual Friends’ text. To add this effect I double clicked on the layer and selected the bevel and emboss style option.

To add the skyline and the line at the bottom I print screened them from dafont.com and using the magic wandtool in Photoshop I cut them out before using the paintbrush function to change it white so that it would be visible on the magazine.

Using dafont.com, the print screen function and the Photoshop magic wand tool I added text to right hand side of the cover. For the ‘+plus’ title I added a bevel and emboss effect, like I did to ‘Steff and Zoe’ previously, by double clicking on the layer and selecting the bevel and emboss style option.

Finally I added dark blue boxes, the same as the one I used behind the barcode, behind the text advertising new bands and artists on twitter. The boxes introduces a hint of a new colour to the cover and make the white font stand out better than it does against the plain black background. I also added text informing readers of the issue and price beside the barcode.
