Visit by the Head of The Think Global School (TGS) On Tuesday, ISH had a visit from the Mr. Alun Cooper, Head of the Think Global School. TGS sees the world as their classroom and this semester they are based in Hyderabad. Mr. Cooper has been an international educator for many years as was extremely impressed by our facilities and what we had to offer at ISH. Our campus is certainly unique and lends itself as a great learning environment for our students. We hope to have some exchanges, including sporting interaction with the TGS before they leave Hyderabad in December. Halloween We celebrated Halloween in style on Thursday. Students and teachers showed their community spirit by dressing up. Students in the elementary made Halloween snacks, showing great creativity, demonstrating relevant, contextual and meaningful learning. Here a few fun facts: The word Halloween is an abbreviated version for ‘All Hallows' Eve’.Halloween comes from an ancient festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago, originating in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northwestern France. The feast originally marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter. Samhain is also thought to celebrate the beginning of the Celtic year. The festival was brought to the United States in the 1800s and is now celebrated mainly by children in countries around the world today, more as a time to dress up, rather than any significance to its origins (Source: CNN) We bid farewell to Charlotte and Elliot Favre. We wish them all the very best for their future.

Diwali
Diwali or Deepavali, the ‘festival of light’ signifies the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and
knowledge over ignorance. India, being a diverse multi-cultural country, has varied interpretations of Diwali.
Though the history, rituals and deities may vary as we move across the country, but the essence of the festival
remains the same. The festival of lights is emblematic of the elimination of spiritual darkness. Diwali is the
occasion to let the light of God, enter our hearts and minds while eliminating all the ignorance and
unpleasantness within.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS A library is the gateway to a thousand adventures. In the pages of a book, our students travel back into time, zip into the future and take on the present. At ISH, reading is encouraged and nurtured every day of the week as we believe that it is an important skill. In fact, a study by the Institute of Education, University of London, has found that kids who read for pleasure do better at math, vocabulary and spelling at school than children who don’t read. We’re getting into the festive spirit with stories and activities based on Dusshera, Halloween and Diwali.
The Early Childhood section had a special treat at the end of the fire drill yesterday. We got to see the fire engine and the ambulance and talk to the firefighters about the special equipment and clothing they use while fighting fires. The firefighters even gave us a mini demonstration of how the water is sprayed and how the hooter and the bell work. We got to take pictures with the fire engine and the firefighters. All the children enjoyed the experience which was especially meaningful for KG 2 as they are currently learning about Community Helpers. Seeing the firefighters in action helped them understand how they provide an essential service to the community.

University Counselling Happenings
This past week was a busy week in university counselling at ISH. On Wednesday October 30th, there was a university presentation and fair of 13 American universities for Grades 10 – 12. Attending universities included prestigious institutions such as George Mason University, North Carolina State University, and Fordham University. The presentation provided a great deal of information about not only the attending universities and their programs, but also about the U.S.
university application process itself. The fair allowed students to meet admissions representatives from the universities, and have their various questions answered. Then, on Thursday October 31st, Ohio State University visited the Grade 11 class at ISH. As well, application season is now underway for Grade 12, with students in the process of applying to universities in not only the U.S., but also Canada, the UK, Switzerland, and Australia. We wish our Grade 12’s all the best in their applications.
