As part of the PBL program, classes that achieve 100%attendance for the whole week get the opportunity to have afree dress day on a day that they choose. It is awesome to seethat a few classes have already taken advantage of this.

Our whole school celebration this term will be the end of termPool Party. The pool party will take place on the Friday of week10 (6th of April). Entry to the pool will be free, and students arereminded that for 160 stamps, they can earn a $2.50 voucherfor the shop at the pool to use during this celebration.

2/3L News

It is amazing how fast this term has gone. I cannot believe thatwe are already in Week 6! It has been lovely getting to knoweveryone over the past month or so. I look forward to what theyear ahead will bring.

This term in English we have been focusing on reading andwriting narrative texts. Students have read the book ‘MattyForever’ and will write their own narrative with a ‘friendship’theme next week. Maths has had a large number focus thisterm with our final unit being on chance and data concepts. In HASS, we have been focusing on places near and far, whythese places are significant and how we can care for them. Our Science unit has focused on living things, how they growand change over time and how they can be grouped based oncommon features. In Visual Art, we have been investigating howwe can use line, shape and colour to express emotions. Healthhas centred around how we can be healthy and active at homeand school, and in Digital Technology we have been learningabout digital systems and how to use them.

Congratulations to all students who entered or participated inthe Millmerran Show for 2019. It was wonderful to see somany 2/3L students getting involved in supporting their localcommunity. A special congratulations must go to the followingstudents who were recognised in the ‘school work’ section:

Jaime Borres - 1st Prize - handwriting (yr. 2), 1st Prize -art (yr. 2), show champion (yr. 1/2)Amya Kennedy - 1st Prize - art (yr. 3)Mortimer Rodgers - 2nd Prize - art (yr. 3)Kiani Passchier - 2nd Prize - handwriting (yr. 2)Clarisa FitzJohn - 3rd Prize - art (yr. 3)Imogen Pearce - Highly Commended - art (yr. 2)Zoe Cann - Arts Encouragement Award - art (yr. 2)Indepentia Blinkhorn - Arts Encouragement Award - art(yr. 3)

It has been great to see so many students in 2/3L claiming theirbuzz stamps for rewards using our whole-school PBL system. Some have already earned over 200 stamps for their excellentbehaviour demonstrated inside and outside of the classroom! Iam truly proud of their efforts.

Keep your eye out for Larry the llama, who will be making anappearance in Term 2 and coming for some home visits. He isvery friendly and shouldn’t bite.

Have a fantastic week,

Miranda Licence

Welcome to 2019.

All of the classes have started off busily and it’s fantastic to seethe skills the students have brought in from previous years.

The Year 7 Students are starting the Semester making aJewellery Box to take home for Mum – it has been fantastic tosee them jump in and give everything a go! I am seriously goingto run out of nails though! The 8 nails they each needed soonturned into 20 or so!

The Year 8 class is making the good old Pencil Case – a triedand true task that incorporates a lot of techniques (I bet thereare people out who have one they made at school). It was greatto see one or two on display at the show too.

The Year 9/10 classes are making a Farmhouse Stool for thekitchen. We are making these using a combination of Biscuit

Band

Wow what a fantastic job Miss Fox has done with theInstrumental Music Program. The intermediate and concertbands are sounding great! Thank you Miss Fox for all of yourhard work!

This year Concert Band rehearsal continues to run of a Tuesdaymorning 8am-9am. Thank you to everyone for yourcommitment and enthusiasm to the program. We had awonderful performance to start the year at our StudentInvestiture Ceremony and have begun marching practise thisweek for ANZAC day (week one term 2). Please ensure yourchild has the formal band uniform for the town march (blacklong pants, black shoes and socks, white long sleeved buttonup collared shirt).

Beginner Band is up and running and all students should havereceived their instrument and Tradition of Excellence text bookfrom the library. Please check with your child to see if they needreeds, cleaning kit, cork grease or valve oil.

Everyone was given a timetable for term one to take home. Please remind your child of when their lesson is each week(Monday, Tuesday or Friday).

All instrumental students should aim to practise for thirtyminutes every day. This could be a combination of scales, textbook exercises and ensemble music. I understand that onsome days this is not possible, but please encourage yourchild to play their instrument every day (even if is for only tenminutes).

Looking forward to a wonderful year of Music!

Choir

Choir has had a very exciting start this year with over 45students signing up – our highest number yet! We have severalstudents who have been in the choir since it started 3 yearsago, along with many new students who have never sung orperformed on stage before. It has been great to experience the‘buzz’ that has existed around choir for the past few weeks.

We have been learning the song ‘A Million Dreams’ from themovie ‘The Greatest Showman’ and will be making our debutperformance this week on parade (Friday the 8th of March). We would love it if you could make it along to watch!Congratulations to the following students who will be featured

as soloists in the song: Bridie Sutton, Scarlett Antonio,Georgina Rodgers and Gwyn Fernando. Our next endeavorwill be the song ‘Australia Remembers’, to be featured at ourschool Anzac Day service in Week 1, Term 2.

More ‘buzz’ in choir this term has existed around the 3rdannual ‘Choir Camp’ that will be held in Pittsworth in Week 7.Previously, Millmerran has sent no more than 5 students. Thisyear we had to create a cut-off at 25 students because therewas such a huge expression of interest. It is great that studentshave opportunities like this in the arts at Millmerran as well as inacademic and sporting pursuits. There will be a concert on theFriday night of ‘Choir Camp’ (Friday 15th of March), featuringall students. Anyone is welcome to attend. Further details havebeen included in this newsletter.

Happy singing,

Miranda Licence
