Whilst I am excited about the challenge ahead I am also saddened by the prospect of leaving a community to which I have become so deeply attached. I thank you all for your support over the years and look forward to working with you and your children for the remainder of my time here. Catholic Education Western Australia will consult with the school as they work through the process to appoint the incoming Principal and the community will be notified of developments at the appropriate time. Making Jesus Real At each Assembly our Year 6 students give a Making Jesus Real award to someone in our school who reflects Jesus to us through their actions. A primary principle behind the MJR program, which we run here at St Patrick’s, is to move children from their egocentric stage of life to becoming a community-minded person, reflecting the values of the gospel in all that they do, just as they identified in Millie last Friday. The acronym WEST is a way of reinforcing the basic tenets of a community-minded person. WELCOME: Whenever we go into a strange place or meet new people we always feel at ease if they welcome us with a smile and a pleasant salutation. Our aim is to make children aware that it is important to warmly greet all children—not just their friends. ENCOURAGE: We all like to be encouraged. Encouragement always From the Principal St Patrick’s Primary School 8 Ellen Street Fremantle WA 6160 (08) 9335 5215 [email protected]www.stpatsfremantle.wa.edu.au Dates for the Diary lifts a person when they may be feeling down; it also helps a person to achieve at a higher level when they feel the positive vibes of people around them. Developing within the children a predisposition to the use of positive words of encouragement will ensure that this aim is fulfilled. SORRY: This is a small but an extremely powerful word. It is a great quality to recognise that you have done something wrong, admit it and say sorry. THANKS: Another word that is small but extremely powerful. We all like to be appreciated for the small things that we do for others. Saying thanks is a simple way of showing others that we are appreciative of their efforts. Digital Technology St Patrick’s has again been formally recognised as an “Apple Distinguished School”. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools and programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments. We’re excited to inform you that our school has once again been selected and internationally recognised as one of 470 schools from 34 countries for continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment. Our teachers have worked really hard to adapt their teaching practice and embrace a range of different technologies to engage and motivate students. It is rewarding to receive the ongoing positive feedback from a source outside our school community. They stated that: “St Patrick’s is doing great things that other schools are only starting to think about.” John Ryan Principal PUPIL FREE DAY FRIDAY 31 MAY Staff will be taking part in Professional Development.

What’s Been Happening? Hi everyone—welcome back to Extend After School Care in Term 2. It’s incredible how fast
the first term of 2019 went by. We ended the term with a lovely Easter egg hunt among other interesting activities, such as slime-making, cupcake-baking, recycled craftwork,
natural art, basket weaving, and learning new outdoor games. The children have all bonded with each other and made many new friends. They explored different activities, games and projects and have even found different ways to express themselves through art, craft, song,
dance and meal-time discussions. We look forward to encouraging the children in their interests while exploring new ones.
The children were glad to be back to school and eagerly shared with the educators and friends the different things they did during their school holidays. This term we will be
focusing on a new project. The children gave lots of different suggestions and we decided to focus on a musical extravaganza that we would like to do and that we can share with friends and families for our open house towards the end of the term. We are excited to share what
we learn and we will keep you posted in our next newsletter for more updates. I would like to say a special “thank you” to Michael’s mum, Karen, for bringing in milk bottle caps/
recycled boxes/wrapping paper for our recycle basket, and for donating a beautiful car mat that the children love using. Thanks also to Isla’s mum, Veronica, for her contribution to our recycle basket. We would love your contributions that help us with our sustainability goals.
Please keep a look out for the Extend memo I will be putting out for what we are trying to collect. We look forward to a wonderful Term 2 with many exciting explorations and
discoveries, while we work together as a team. Have a lovely Term 2!

School Altar Servers—Photo above. Here
are our new Year 5 altar servers. With
Elena in Year 6 also trained, Father
Sebastian is very ably assisted during
school Masses.
Mother’s Day—Photo above. We hope our mums and
grandmothers enjoyed their Mother’s Day morning tea
at St Patrick’s, and went on to be spoiled by their
families the following Sunday.
Meditation—Photos above. Over the last couple of weeks the students and teachers have all been
welcomed to participate in a short ten minute lunchtime meditation practice held in the school library.
As you can see from the photos, the children (and Mrs Cooks) are all deeply relaxed after their
meditation. A big thank you to those who have been attending. I look forward to many more.

Wow! What an extremely busy day we had on Friday 10th May. Even though it was busy it was a fantastic day. Thank you to all those who assisted with the Mother’s Day morning
tea, the Year 4 parents for putting on a fantastic Lap-a-thon, and to those parents who assisted with either the Junior or Senior discos. Without your support we would not be able to have such events.
Now that the Lap-a-thon has been completed it is time to get your donation form and monies back for collection. Please place both in an envelope and hand them back to either
the front office or class teacher by next Thursday 30th May.
Congratulations to the Pre-Primary Class who ran a fantastic Mother’s Day raffle. Their
generosity with such great donations for prizes and selling so many books is really appreciated. The raffle raised an amazing $989, so well done. Congratulations to those
lucky winners; 1st Prize: Leesa Stefanatos
2nd Prize: Gina Blake Moore
3rd Prize: Carine Johnson 4th Prize: Sheila Irving
5th Prize: Peta Taylor
It is great to see the tally board for the Year 2 “5c piece fundraiser”. It looks like all classes
are determined to win the class party at the end of term. Don’t forget to keep collecting and bring them in, and I have been told that 10c pieces are allowed, too!
Term two P&F meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th June at 7pm in the Staff Room, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.
The school canteen will be closed on Wednesday 12th June, and so a group of wonderful parents will be putting on their famous Pasta Day to raise money for the P&F. Keep an eye
out for order forms so the kids don’t miss out.
A reminder that School banking is every Wednesday morning between 8.15am to
8.45am in the banking room. For all the new parents who would like to receive information on student banking please come to the banking room on Wednesday mornings and Jacinta Edwards our banking rep will be more than happy to provide information packs to you.
We are still looking for somebody to take over the position of President of the P&F. The past President will be there 100% to support the new President and ease them in showing
them what to do. Please let the front office know if you are interested and Peta Evans is happy to have a chat and outline what is involved in the position. You have a great team
P&F Exec to support you.
