From the Principal … Community BBQ – We are looking forward to hosting our first Community BBQ tomorrow afternoon between 5pm-7pm. We have had a huge response from parents who returned the RSVP slip, which is fantastic. For catering purposes all families who returned their slip will receive an envelope today with tokens for a sausage sandwich and drink. Please ensure you bring your tokens with you tomorrow afternoon. This will be a great informal opportunity to meet the entire staff of Governor as well as your child’s 2019 class teacher. Kindergarten Information Session – Thank you to Mrs Hosking for organising an information session yesterday morning for our new Kindergarten parents. Starting school can seem overwhelming, even for parents. We hope the information provided was valuable and of assistance to our new families. Stage 3 High School and Cyber Safety Talk – Tomorrow (Wednesday 20 February) Miss Fitton will be holding a meeting to explain and show parents the process of high school applications. This can be a confusing process, so it’s a valuable opportunity for parents to come along and gain some important information and advice. We are also lucky enough to have our local Police Officer Constable Green coming along to discuss cyber safety for senior students. Constable Green is well known to Governor staff and students for the work he does across our school. The Stage 3 talk will commence at 9.15am in the library. Afternoon Collection of Students – Over the last few weeks Mrs Hosking, Mr Hamilton and myself have been out each afternoon at the front of the school. We have become increasing concerned about the number of students who have been asked to wait for parents behind the Year 1 classrooms OR across the road at Allambie Oval. Some students are waiting up to 20 minutes for parents to arrive. This is a huge safety concern for us as a staff and community. Please Note: As of next Monday (25 February), the gates behind the Year 1 block will be closed of an afternoon. Access to collect students will be through the main front gate. No student will be permitted to wait outside the gates for parents, they will be required to wait inside the school boundary. Any student who has not been collected by 3.05pm will then need to wait in the front office for a parent to arrive. We anticipate that this will be a minor number of students, and the same students will not be waiting every afternoon. While we appreciate parking can be difficult, it is important to remember the safety and well-being of students is our priority. Parking further away and walking to collect students may seem inconvenient, however, this will ensure every child is safely collected each afternoon. We are asking parents to support us in this initiative and arrive on time each day. Voluntary School Contributions –This year we are asking K-6 parents to pay $70 per student. There has been no increase from last year. All schools request a contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding and provide additional resources and teaching aids for students across K-6.The levy covers additional classroom and school resources for students which would otherwise not be possible, including the purchase and installation of new Technology (laptops, iPads, interactive whiteboards and new software and apps) and air conditioners in every classroom. We would greatly appreciate if parents could finalise all payments as soon as possible in order for us to purchase additional equipment for the 2019 school year. Have a great week!
