Soon, a revised version of the: Home Learning Policy and Anti-bullying & Harassment Policy will be available for viewing on the school’s website. In addition, the Governing Council has been working on a new document to support community interactions at our school. In particular, communication and actions that support the students, staff and families at Modbury School. The new policy titled ‘Community Code of Conduct’ will be shared with all families next term. It promotes a proactive culture with an overall focus on safety and respect for all members of our community. This will also be used to provide supportive information to future families looking to enrol at our school and preschool. New Enrolment Processes The Department for Education has a new policy that effects all new reception enrolments in the public system. Any family wishing to enrol a child into reception in a primary school are asked to complete, a ‘Registration of Interest’ form and lodge it with their intended school by the end of term 2. Offers of placement will then be issued in August. This is a new process, please contact the school if you require support. If you are aware of any new families considering starting their child in Reception for 2020 at Modbury School, please encourage them to make contact with Michelle through the front office on 8264 2027. A range of sticks, branches, bark and leaves are being used to build lovely places that are promoting imaginative play. We are currently limited in the sticks that are falling from trees. Also, additional items that would be helpful are small pots/pans/ tin cups etc. for creating ‘dining and camp experiences’ in the cubbies. If you have any items that may help foster the cubbies children are making, please contact the front office as we would welcome your support.

Can you help with items for

The English language has 26 letters
that can make 44 phonological sounds.
Learning Community A (Room 12 & 14)
At Modbury School we participate in a structured and synthetic phonics literacy program called
“Read Write Inc”. Students participate in intensive 45 minute lessons 4 times a week in small
groups.
In Read Write Inc we are learning:
The 44 sounds and the corresponding letters/ letter groups (special friends sounds)
using simple picture prompts
To write the “special friends sounds” which represent the 44 sounds
To answer literal and inferential comprehension questions
To read more special
friends sounds that we
don’t already know

EID Celebrations - Friday 14 June 2019
Students at Modbury School joined together on Friday
14 June to celebrate EID. EID is a celebration in the
Muslim community called the “Festival of Breaking the
Fast”.
Children participated in games and craft activities.
Parent volunteers helped students to make Malaysian
pancakes for students in the school. Thank you for
volunteering your time for this celebration.
Modbury School Garden progress…..
It has been a busy time in the garden over the past few months with raised garden beds being
installed and filled with dirt. We have been using our Landcare Grant to support this process.
Students have been learning about worms and our new worm farms in preparation for the spring
planting. We look forward some delicious produce.
Well done to all students who
participated in SAPSASA Boys
Netball and Girls Soccer on 31 May
at Argana Park, Elizabeth Downs.
It was fantastic to see students
enjoying themselves . We faced
some tough competition and
despite this, everybody kept a
positive team spirit all day.
SAPSASA events would not be
possible without help from volunteers in the community. Thank you to Linda Cavanagh, Kylie
Swanson, Matthew Tyndale, Gary Dwiar, Lance Graver, Katrina Simpson, Yi-Chi Lin, Melissa

Kate Shimmin visits
Modbury School
This term for our Sporting Schools
program Modbury School is
participating in a netball program
through Netball SA.
Modbury School had a visit from Adelaide Thunderbirds
Kate Shimmin on Tuesday 18 June. Kate shared her story
on becoming an elite athlete, her commitment to training,
healthy eating and lifestyle.
Students had the opportunity to ask Kate questions, Kate
selected one question as a winning question. Ellouise
(pictured with Kate) won 2 tickets to the Thunderbirds
game this weekend. Well done Ellouise.
Thank you to Kate for taking the time to come to our
school and share her experiences.
Absenteeism
Kirsty Brumby, Wellbeing Leader
Lately it has been unfortunate to see many of
our students absent from school. Much of this is
accounted for by sickness and it always best for
students to stay home and rest should they be
feeling unwell.
It is important though, that parents are notifying
the school anytime their child is going to be
absent. If your child is sick or will be absent from
school, please notify the front office using either of
