This worship service has been geared for the 15 -35 year old crowd, with interactive sermons, cutting edge music arrange- ments, and an alternative liturgy. The question that naturally arises from this attempt by a Lutheran church, steeped in it's liturgical tradition, is why even bother? Isn't this a job for the non-denominational seeker churches? Why us? This is a great question. There is, however, a sense of irony in this coming from Lutherans. If you look at our tradition and how it originated, you will find that we have been the alternative church for many centuries. We are the church that translated the bible into the language of the common peasant. We are also the church that put the poetry of scripture to popular bar and pub tunes (ala Martin Luther). The question we might ask ourselves is, when did we stop being innovative about worship? When did we stop communicating in a language and in a style that our contemporary culture could understand? Worship is acknowledging God's value in our lives. We give worth to God when we sing songs of praise and recognize His impact on the world. But who is worshiping God these days? Mostly seniors or families with children seems to be the most common answer. The huge black hole when it comes to wor- ship is that movie going age 15-35. So what is our response to this? As pro- claimers of the Gospel and facilitators of public worship, how does this void affect our mission as a church? Why Second Sundays By Pastor Dax Jordan

Over the past six months we have gathered for worship on the evening of the second Sunday of the month. This worship service has been geared for the 15-35 year old crowd, with interactive sermons, cutting edge music arrange-ments, and an alternative liturgy.

The huge black hole when it comes to wor-ship is that movie going age 15-35. So what is our response to this? As pro-claimers of the Gospel and facilitators of public worship, how does this void affect our mission as a church?

Second Sunday is a vehicle for bridging this gap between the Lutheran Tradi-tion and 21st century. The service is not intended to exclude people from any demographic. This is a sincere invitation to everyone in our congregation who wants to celebrate Christ's love in a new and exciting way. So invite your friends and neighbors to our next Second Sunday event, April 14th at 6:30pm in the Great Room.

Faith Forward – to the Finish Line!

What is FAITH FORWARD?—Faith Forward is the 3-year Capital Funding Campaign to pay off the Bridge Loan. These gifts are over-and-above regular giving. What is the total indebtedness of Our Savior’s Way?—Our congregation has two loans:

1. The Bridge Loan (needed for operating expenses after we built the exist-ing sanctuary and as Open Arms filled new classrooms)--$135,000.00

2. The Building Loan (used to construct the existing sanctuary, fellowship hall and classroom addition)--$9,088.631.98. Total Debt = $9,223,631.98 with a MONTHLY mortgage payment of $53,000. We have reduced this amount by about $675,000 over the last year! REASONS TO CELEBRATE!!!

• We have reached $1.5 million dollars in contributions to Faith Forward!

• We will soon have less than $100,000 left to pay on the Bridge Loan!

• We are saving $60,000 per year in interest payments as a result of paying down the Bridge Loan!

• 287 individuals/families are participating in the Faith Forward Campaign

• 37 individuals/families have already fulfilled their original commitment and have continued to give an additional $126,686.25! OUR GOAL—Pay off the Bridge Loan ASAP! You can help by:

• Renew your commitment to Faith Forward or make a new commitment.

• Fulfilling your commitment early. To direct your offering to FAITH FORWARD?—Simply write “Faith Forward” on your envelope or check.

“Simply petting a dog can decrease levels of stress hormones, regulate breathing, and lower blood pressure. Research also has shown that petting releases oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and affection, in both the dog and the human.” Check out the in-formation on our website http://www.oswlc.org/connect/ParishNursing/ on this National Geographic article, as well as Paws4people, Animal Assisted Therapy, and Face of Crisis/

Paws4people Service dog at OSW services with Rachael Wessell Many of you may notice a head and furry tail peeking out from under a pew. That is our new furry church member, Daw-son! Dawson is a mobility service dog for Rachael, who has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. DAWSON goes everywhere with Rachael and helps her with daily tasks such as: picking up items if dropped, alerting when someone is approaching her wheelchair from behind, helping to balance her when she needs to right herself, carrying her bags, get-ting out her wallet or cell phone, pressing elevator or door call buttons, removing her socks and many other tasks. Paws4people foundation is a non-profit organization that trains and certifies customized Assistance Dogs, who are pro-vided free of charge to children, veterans, and active-duty military members with disabilities. For additional information, please contact Rachael Wessell at [email protected] or visit the website: www.paws4people.org. We will also be doing a fundraiser at Rubino’s on Tuesday, April 16 from 4:00-9:00 pm. Come out and help us raise money for this worthy cause!

A STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT By Rev. Dr. Eric G. Peterson

Investment counselors advise their

clients to invest for the long term.

Markets daily go up and down but if

you invest and keep to your plan your

investments will pay big dividends in

the end. Here is Jesus’ long term

investment advice: “Do not store up

for yourselves treasures on earth,

where moth and rust destroy, and

where thieves break in and steal. But

store up for yourselves treasures in

heaven, where moth and rust do not

destroy, and where thieves do not

break in and steal. For where your

treasure is, there your heart will be

also (Matthew 6:19-21).” Again he

said, “So do not worry, saying `What

shall we eat?’ or `What shall we

drink?’ or `What shall we wear?’ For

the pagans run after all these things,

and your heavenly Father knows that

you need them. But seek first his

kingdom and his righteousness, and

all these things will be given to you

as well (Matthew 6:31-33).”

We pray for one another:

Colossians Study Begins Sunday April 7 - 9:30 am

Colossians was written by the apostle Paul while un-der house arrest in Rome (about A.D. 60-62), to be-lievers in the small city of Colosse, located in the southwest interior of what is now Turkey. The study will be held in the Fellowship Hall - Bill Pfancuff ([email protected]) will facilitate.

Monday Men’s Group at Panera

After Easter, our group will begin reading the Book of Acts and discussing the ministry of the early church. The early followers of Jesus were filled with the Holy Spirit and with power to carry on Jesus’ ministry to share the good news of God’s salvation and love. When you come to Panera, and you hear a lot of men laughing and having a good time…that’s our table. Come and join us, Mondays at 7:00 am. Contact: Pastor Peterson at [email protected].
