After the wave of late winter snow storms, you’re prob-ably as happy as the Library staff to see a list of spring and summer programs to

get you ready for the sunny season. Some new things you might notice if you haven’t been here since the end of last summer are the wonderful mo-bile shelving units, the refinished and repainted tables and the colorful chairs in the Children’s Room—a continu-ation of the cheerful updates under-taken in memory of Jeanne Flagler Lazor by her husband, Dr. Mike Lazor. We also have a rotating collection of Talking Books titles for patrons with low vision or other print disabilities on order (you can find out more about our visual accessibility services from Gus Aslanian). The Library’s appearance on Main Street is also looking spiffier

thanks to a generous donor who helped us replace the broken down fence, and a new memorial bench for Jane Reidy.

We were pleased to find out that Cotuit Library was an American Library Association “Star Library” again. We join a number of other Cape libraries with this distinction; in fact, of the 12 Star Libraries in the state, nine of them are Cape Cod libraries! The rating is based on service criteria, and we are always trying to improve what we can offer to our patrons and visitors. Have any suggestions? Cotuit Library is truly the heart of your Village. Sure we have books and extensive digital resources, but the Library is also important to the community because of the hundreds of programs we have for children, teens, adults and families in 2018. While the town of Barnstable provides an annual grant to cover a portion of the Library’s operating costs, the remaining 50% is raised through our fundraising events, from the Cotuit Fire District, the Friends of the Cotuit Library and through the generosity of our patrons and members of our community. Please clip this donation form and send it in with your generous contribution. Thank you.
