Dear Parents and Guardians The end of my first month at Atlantic Seaboard is upon us already and the school is a hive of activity. It is wonderful to walk around the school and see so many happy and excited faces enjoying their schooling! Please remember that I have an open-door policy and invite you at all times to come and discuss any problems you may have. In order to ensure availability, it is advisable to call for an appointment so that you can receive my undivided attention. It is important that you deal with issues and concerns no matter how small you may think they are – unresolved concerns tend to grow out of proportion if they are not dealt with immediately. Open, respectful communication is an essential ingredient for healthy relationships – let us work in partnership from the outset in our children’s best interests. I implore parents to ensure that their child or children are on time for school. Being late places our students under undue stress. Being on time for school is a vital life skill and lays the foundation of good work habits for their future. How do you feel when you have a work appointment and the person is always late? I would like to once again thank the many parents and students who took the time to attend the social get-together to meet me as well as the Careers Expo and Grade 10 2019 Subject Choice evening held over the past Tuesday and Thursday evenings. They served as a valuable opportunity for parents to meet academic staff. My gratitude goes to Mrs Veronica Knight for organising the Careers Expo and Ms Hilary Kreyenbroek for her presentation and arrangement for the Grade 10 2019 Subject Choice evening. I enjoyed meeting with parents on a social level and thank them for their positive comments on the school. I’d also like to express my admiration and gratitude to the Grade 8 students and Mrs Debbie Koopman for the quality of service and products on offer at our annual Grade 8 Market Day. Well done! I am very much looking forward to the Matric Dance on Saturday. Wishing you all a warm and safe weekend with your children. Dear Parents and Guardians
The end of my first month at Atlantic Seaboard is upon us already and the school is a hive of activity.
Being on time for school is a vital life skill and lays the foundation of good work habits for their future. How do you feel when you have a work appointment and the person is always late?

The third term is a useful consolidation time for students to evaluate their academic successes thus far and possibly re-evaluate their study methods, time-management and attitudes in each of their subjects in order to improve the quality of their effort and thus improve their results. This is particularly important in Grades Ten and Eleven. It certainly will be an extremely busy term for both sport and the performing arts. Many of the students are performing in, or are otherwise involved in, the Dance Showcase and the Drama Evening. We also have students preparing for the upcoming Inter-schools International Affairs Quiz. These events entail rehearsing and preparing over many weekends and afternoons. Busy and involved students are often the ones who are the highest academic achievers as well. IEB We congratulate many of our teachers on their appointment as sub-examiners and examiners for the IEB, whilst others have been appointed as regional portfolio or as oral moderators for the 2018 school based assessment. Every year Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard has a large representation at the marking committees and the selection of our staff by the IEB attests to the high regard in which our staff is held.
The students were treated to an ice-cream with McDonald’s chips on the first day of
school, as part of a demonstration following on from the opening assembly with our
new Headmistress, Liséttè Noonan. The message was brought home that “It’s okay to
be different and not always do things that are expected - like dipping a warm chip in a cold ice-
cream!”

FOCUS ON / FIRST ASSEMBLY
CAREERS EXPO & GRADE 10 SUBJECT CHOICE EVENING
A successful Careers Expo and Subject Choice Evening was held on 26 July 2018. Thirty-four tertiary institutions we represented. Thank you to all for support and attendance. The
students gained value insight into local and international study opportunities and requirements.
ART & DESIGN DEPARTMENT
The University of the Arts London, UAL is considering doing a workshop with particular emphasis on submitting the perfect portfolio, between the 24th and the 30th of September 2018. The rep will be in Cape Town and Johannesburg between these
dates which will be confirmed according to the response. Any interested teachers and their students would be invited to this particular event. The time and venue are still to be advised. University of the Arts London is ranked sixth in the world for Art and Design in the QS World University Rankings® 2018. They offer an extensive range of courses in art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts. Their graduates go on to work in and shape creative industries worldwide. Many years ago, UAL did a similar event here in Cape Town and one of the students who attended, having gleaned expert advice, won the best design stand, before heading off to study architecture. Therefore it is indeed a privilege to have such an expert available to us.
The dance students have been preparing for our annual Dance Showcase which will take place on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th August. All our various dance styles offered at Reddam House ASB - namely: ballet, hip hop, creative movement, college subject dance and student choreographies - will be displayed. The programme of events will be the same on both evenings. Tickets will go on sale on Monday the 30th July with Antonieta at College Reception at R50 per ticket. This is going to be a most exciting event; we look forward to seeing you all there!
DANCE & DRAMA DEPARTMENTS
MILA KIKILLUS
Mila Kikillus (Grade 7) recently had a most wonderful experience where she attended a Musical Theatre Workshop week in London. Mila’s successful auditioning process last December to attend the London Musical Theatre Intensive this last week really paid off… she had an incredible and enriching experience during her week with The Joffrey Ballet School NY and MSquared Talent. It was exceptionally hard work (every day 9:00 to 4:30) and she experienced invaluable coaching from professionals who have been and are still on the Broadway and West End circuits. She experienced and participated in outdoor acting classes, voice coaching, ballet, tap, Broadway Jazz, contemporary dance, and many more performance related techniques and crafts. The week culminated with an amazing class presentation which featured the group performing two choreographed scenes from the award winning musical, Wicked. Judging by the programme, one can see how comprehensive and educational this very special time was.
Well done, Mila!

CORNER OF EXCELLENCE
CAITLIN DOYLE Caitlin was selected to represent the Western Cape at the Goju Kai National Karate Championships which are being held at Stellenbosch from the 26th - 28th October 2018. Well done Caitlin! We are incredibly proud of you. What is more amazing about this young lady is that she will be going to Tokyo from 1st - 9th October to grade for her second dan belt! To get invited to grade, you have to train for 3 years after getting your black belt and you must also be 16 years old and above grading to be officially invited. A phenomenal achievement!
ISABELLA BLANDON ZAPATA Isabella was chosen to represent South Africa at the World Futsal Championships in Hawaii in November this year. I am so impressed with your dedication and commitment to your sport. You are an inspiration to all the students and myself, and I know that your dream of playing soccer overseas will come true. Congratulations on been chosen to go to trials at Ajax Amsterdam at the end of the year, I know that with your talent and drive you will succeed in all that you do. Well done, Isabella!
