COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS The Coles Sports for Schools Program has started. When you shop at Coles supermarkets, you will receive a voucher for every $10 you spend. Bring your vouchers into the school’s office and place them into the Coles box. All vouchers we collect will go towards purchasing sporting equipment for our students. Tell your friends and family to get involved as well, because the more vouchers we collect, the more sports equipment our school will receive.

PLANNED ASBESTOS REMOVAL WORKS The Department of Education and Training (DET) will soon be undertaking some proactive asbestos removal works at the school in the Office and Art Room. The asbestos-containing material is being removed from the school grounds in strict accordance with the Victorian

Occupational Health and Safety framework and environmental regulations. We will be working closely with the

Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), the responsible body for asbestos removal and remediation works

within DET, to ensure disruption to students and staff is minimal.

Work will be undertaken by a licensed asbestos removalist engaged by DET. As a further precaution, an

occupational hygienist will monitor air quality during applicable removal works and must issue a clearance

certificate before any person can access the area.

When the date and time of this work is known, a letter will be sent home to parents and guardians.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this process. Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you

have any further questions, on 9876 3289.

KALINDA PRODUCTION 2018 – ALI BABA AND THE BONGO BANDITS! 2018 is going to be a huge year for Performing Arts at Kalinda Primary School with our whole school production of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits. Please lock away the dates of Tuesday August 7 and Wednesday August 8 in your diaries. You don’t want to miss it! As always, the success of the show will rely on the generous support and help from the parent community and beyond. There is so much to be done and every little bit helps. We need helpers both in the (long) lead up to the event as well as on the nights of the performances. If you think you may be able to help in any way (costumes, props, sets, lighting, audio, makeup, hair or anything else) please click on the following link and respond to the survey. YOUR CHILDREN’S TEACHERS NEED YOUR HELP!!

The status: We have approximately 400 families in our Kalinda Community, and only

six families have put their hands up to take on a very simple role, as parent Reps, and all of those parents already contribute to the school in a variety of executive/ volunteer roles.

The role: The Parent rep role is to liaise with the class teacher and those parents, grandparents or guardians who

are available to participate in various classroom activities. For the most part, classroom help usually comes in a 45min-1hr blocks, about two or three times per term.

The requirement: It is the Parent Rep’s role, to communicate with the class teacher and parents to co-ordinate

classroom help. This can be done via email, text, FB or in person. It is not essential that you are at drop off or pick up, as communication today is so simple, it really makes this role very easy. You will also need a current Working With Children Check. Please re-consider a Parent Rep role and support the teachers that support your children every day. An expression of interest form is at the end of this newsletter. Please complete and return to the office as soon as possible. Thanks in anticipation! NB: we currently have Reps for: Foundation Z, Foundation A, 1/2 S, 1/2 F, 3/4 D, 5/6T. Jacinta Toomey Parents and Friends

These students all swam very well and achieved fantastic results, with many receiving ‘place-finishes’ in their heats. Thank you to Crissi Kippie for team managing our swimmers on the day and thank you to all the other parents who also assisted.
