I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don’t you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness. Isaiah 43:19 (CEB) Greetings for this new year! The month of January brings with it the beginning of a fresh new year – and holds opportunities to try new things and make changes in our lives. This is a time for reflection and planning a new direction. In November, we held an all-church Vision meeting just prior to our Church Conference. Later this month we will be meeting to assess the information gathered at that meeting and what our goals are as we move forward. If you have ideas you’d like us to consider, please contact me by phone (630-452-5193)or email [email protected]In worship, we will continue to work our way through the Bible, and my sermons will focus on the Gospel of John from now until Easter. We will look at the story of Jesus as told in the major events and stories chronicled in this fourth gospel. I hope that you will join us on Sundays for worship and coffee time that follows. Stop by for our community dinners the third Thursday of each month, or try out a short-term Bible study group. God is at work in our lives doing new things all the time – what new thing will you try this winter to deepen your faith? As we approach the two year anniversary of the Monthly Third Thursday Community Dinners at Burlington UMC, we are happy to announce that the December Christmas Dinner on December 19th served our largest number to date. The Burlington UMC’s Missions and Outreach Committee served a delicious Ham Dinner and the Fellowship Hall was rock’in with good conversation, laughter, and great food. We have now come to realize that the Community had a hunger not only for food, but for the kind of fellowship that happens when you share a meal together.
The third Thursday monthly Community Dinner is open to ANYONE in our community….BUMC members, friends, friends of friends, and neighbors. Serving times are 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with take outs available.
As we begin 2014, we hopeful and confident that this ministry will expand by reaching out to more families. We have an amazing, loving, generous congregation. Every member has contributed in some capacity and we are honored to serve our Lord in this special way.

CASA Kane County is a non-profit volunteer organization that advocates for the
best interest of abused and neglected children within the Juvenile Court system.
This year there were over 50 names hanging on the BUMC tree. Thanks to the
generosity of the Country Covenant Church and BUMC every card was taken off
the “Giving Tree.” Many members joyfully snatched two or tree names thus
providing a wonderful Christmas for a special child. The project is spear-headed by
Cathy McCoy and the Youth Group. By mid-December gifts were piled high and
ready for delivery to CASA by the Youth group.
THANK YOU Burlington UMC and Country Covenant Church Members!
According to Wikipedia…. A snowbird is someone from the
U.S. Northeast, U.S. Midwest, Pacific Northwest, or Canada who
spends a large portion of winter in warmer locales such as California,
Arizona, Florida, or Texas.
Here at BUMC we have several snowbirds who have flown the coop.
We of course we will try our best to keep their seats warm in the
pews, but most of all we will miss you and pray for a wonderful
respite from the Illinois weather and a safe return.

Beautiful new Advent Paraments were presented and dedicated in the December 1st Worship Service to the memory of Danny Rylko. Willie Kanies created the amazing gifts that will be cherished for many years to come. Thank you!
Raylan LeSage born on June 10 and Emmett Henry Arendt born on June 19 attended their first BUMC Charge Conference with their mothers, Christine and Brittney. Both boys were baptized this year and are becoming great bud-dies.
