Joel Regan Carter

Joel Carter, Killeen High School ‘78, is Chief Marketing Officer for Innovation First, a fast-growing technology company. Carter’s team won the Best of Innovation Award in Robotics at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show for inventing the VEX Robotics Design System. His HEXBUG Micro Robotic Creatures were recently selected as Top 10 Toy at the 2008 American International Toy Fair.

Previously, Carter served as a Vice President for RadioShack Corporation. He began his career in advertising at The Richards Group in Dallas in 1982, and also achieved success at other top agencies including Tracy-Locke/BBDO, Publicis, and the famed Ogilvy & Mather.

Son of Texas State Artist John Carter, he earned his degree in advertising from the University of Texas in 1982, where he was selected Outstanding Student in Advertising.

Carter is a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America, having attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth. He lives in Argyle, Texas, with his wife Pattie and daughter Brooke. His son Josh, also an Eagle Scout, is a mechanical engineering major at the University of Texas.

Lillian Ann (Wolf) Farris

Lillian Ann (Wolf) Farris, Killeen High School ‘68, is the daughter of Clyde and Neva Wolf, native Killeenites; she attended Avenue D Elementary, Nolan Middle School (Queen of Smiles), and Killeen High School (Valedictorian and Most Likely to Succeed.) She is indebted to her teachers (Jacquie Patterson, Helen Little, David Evans, Jimmy French, Janice Ward, and more) and her principals (Jack Arnold, Lloyd Jean, and Charles Patterson).

Ann is an Aggie, class of ‘72 (magna cum laude) where she also received her master’s and doctorate degrees. She is an educator: teacher and administrator in public school and professor in college. Her avocation is peacemaking in third-world countries (Ukraine, Romania, and India). Ann’s husband, Gerald, is a big game guide; her daughter, Lila, is a special teacher of special children.

Randy Perlis

Randy Perlis, Killeen High School ’73, attended all 12 years in the KISD system. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.S. in Chemistry 1977 and Masters in Chemistry in 1980.

As a principal scientist and hazardous materials safety chemist for URS, he has worked on many emergency response contracts for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, responding to hazardous materials incidents and Homeland Security issues. He has worked overseas in Brazil and Saudi Arabia, and has been a member of the American Chemical Society for 32 years.

Recently, he was elected to the Board of Education for the Denver area’s Cherry Creek School District, Colorado’s premier school district.

Randy has been involved in adult education for over thirty-two years, teaching safety classes and chemistry classes to fire safety and hazardous materials departments throughout the country. He also has his own consulting and teaching firm.

Beverly White (Higgs)

Beverly White, Killeen High School ‘77, was born in Frankfurt, West Germany and attended public schools throughout Killeen.

She obtained a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 and has worked in the field ever since. From KCEN-TV/NBC Temple/Waco, to KENS-TV/CBS San Antonio, WKRC-TV/ABC Cincinnati, WTVJ-TV/NBC Miami to KNBC-TV Los Angeles, White has reported many of the nations’ most memorable stories.

Among her proudest accomplishments are her deep, abiding ties to her parents and siblings, her marriage to Xavier Higgs and the 1991 Peabody Award for coverage of Hurricane Andrew.
