FoBT Christmas Party – Sunday 17th December 3 till 5pm, in the Nelson Hall. Hot mulled wine, warm mince pies, tea/coffee and home-made cakes. All welcome as always. (Transport available if required – call Di on 730778)

Pub Update: It now appears that the issues of parking, and the type of extension planned, will have to be addressed by Greene King, to the extent that they may have to put in a new planning application. If so, whilst definitely being positive in some ways, this clearly has also got the potential to significantly delay reopening.

Salt Glass Studios: Salt Glass is moving to a studio in Norwich in January. It willvery be sad to see them go. In the meantime, catch them for glass-art courses tomake paperweights, glass panels or glass baubles, or buy one of their unique hand-crafted glass gifts. www.saltglassstudios.co.uk 01328 738873.

Max and Fiona have asked if we could record in the newsletter their thanks to FoBT and everyone from the area for all the support over the last six years. Theyhave told us that they are extremely sad to be leaving and that they very much hope that people will come to visit them in the new studio in the New Year.

Finally, they have asked if anyone knows anyone locally who has as a 'teleporter' or similar type of machine that could move heavy equipment out of their studio. This moving of equipment would take one morning, any time from 19th to 31st December.

90 Years Young! Mary Heather and the Howard family would be delighted if you could join them in the Nelson Hall on Sunday January 14th from 4 – 6.30pm for a “90/60” celebration (Mary's nephew David, who was born and brought up in the village will be celebrating his 60th). There will be a light buffet, drinks, and a 'sing song'. Mary and the family have asked for 'no presents please – just you and plenty of smiles'. Everyone in the village is invited to come along and join in the celebrations!

From Lisa's 'Norfolk Charcuterie' (in The Pightle): Please place your sausage orders for Christmas week by 15th December Pork, Chestnut & Bacon / Pork, Cranberry, Orange & Pecan / Pork & Sage. £4.50 per lb sleeve. Geoffrey Shreeve: Geoff Shreeve, who lived at Goodricks, passed away on November 19th. Mary writes “Geoff met Helen, a widow, and he came to live in Thorpe and they married. They could always be seen together supporting village activities and he joined Helen in her constant support for Church life. He loved music and played the Trombone in a dance band and this led him to accompany the organ for special Services. After Helen died his health deteriorated and he passed away in the wonderful care of Tapping House Hospice

Burnhams Taxis: All through the festive season – Call Martin on 01328 730580.

Parish Council Report (by Mima Garland): River Burn. The Environment Agency (EA) sent a report and are now awaiting feedback from the Parish Council (PC). David Latham (Rose Cottage, Garners Row) and Ursula Juta of Norfolk Rivers Trust (NRT, who work closely with the EA)spoke about why work (including tree planting) was being done on the Burn southof The Parsonage. They also explained what was planned and what else might be done to cut village flood risk. They, the Councillors and parishioners discusseddrainage and flooding around the village, as well as landscape and nature conservation around the Burn. Local knowledge (particularly from John Hendry and Cllr Lettie Steele) of how things worked previously, combined with the technical skills of the other speakers, helped give a picture of what could be done. The PC will work with the EA and NRT, keeping everyone informed, and discussing and agreeing what would work best. There’ll soon be more details on the PC website, and paper copies on request to Murdo or Mima.

We were also reminded that we should inform Norfolk County Council (NCC) Highways and the EA if we see a problem (such as silted up roadside drainage holes), as the more they hear from us, the quicker they fix things. Please contact them directly, keeping the PC informed so we can help push things along. EA & NCC contact details will be on the noticeboard and the PC website shortly.

Lord Nelson: An update on the pub confirmed that Greene King are likely to haveto submit a new application and have a new round of public consultation.

Sub-committees: It was agreed to consider having some PC sub-committees, e.g.a “works committee”, composed of maybe one Councillor plus parishioners, to help organise and do small jobs on PC property in the village. There’ll be a report on how this might work, for decision, at the 22nd January PC meeting.

PC Finance Meeting: There’ll be another PC meeting on Monday 4th December (6.30 in the hall) to agree spending for this year, plans for next year, and what budget (Precept) we should ask Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council for. Our current “one-off” big items for this year and possibly into next are the Speed Awareness signs, and removal/replacement of the playing field conifers. Do comeand have your say – it’s your money!

Mima Garland, PC Chairman, 01328 730612 [email protected]. Murdo Durrant, PC Clerk, 01485 576118 [email protected]
