PRINCIPALS REPORT Overtakers; Success at Maryborough Congratulations to our Human Powered Vehicle team who did extremely well last week at the RACV Energy Breakthrough at Maryborough. Our team performed brilliantly and placed 3rd overall in the Human Powered Vehicle section for 2017. The Overtakers did very well in the Design and Construction event and had an ex- cellent Presentation. They were seventh in the 14 hour race (out of 96 teams), crossing the finishing line after having completed 353 laps or 390 kilometres. This was a fantastic effort con- sidering we had several rollovers in the first hour and the track marshals held us up in the pits for more than 20 minutes questioning the design of the trike. Because our trike was so fast, we actu- ally employed an unusual strategy for the re- maining thirteen hours of the race; go fast in the straights and cautious on the corners. In the end, we were only eight laps away from winning the race or about 15 minutes of pedalling. After our incident packed first hour, the team showed true determination to recover from 39 place to finish seventh and in the final 6 hours of the race on Saturday, we gained five laps on the leaders. I would like to thank Samantha Smith for all of the work she has done this year in supporting the HPV program, it has been absolutely won- derful to have as part of our team. Thanks also to Virginia McKenzie for her assistance in all aspects. Thanks of course to our parents who were the caterers, the timers and recorders, the cheer squad and the encouragement givers. I know for many of you going to Maryborough was a big sacrifice but I’m sure you will agree that it was worthwhile. Thank you of course to each of our 11 team members, you were absolutely awe- some. I think the most important thing about the HPV event is to give it your best shot, if you can walk away from the event saying you did your best then that’s really all that matters. Newsletter Friends Learning Together Grade 3/4 Camp Phillip Island Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 students who went to camp at Phillip Island last week and by all reports had a wonderful time. I heard stories of children overcoming their fears on the giant swing and learning new skills in several activities. I’m sure that all of our students would have been overflowing with exciting stories when they arrived back at Frankston on Friday afternoon. Students learn a great deal by participating in adventure activities outside the classroom but also learn many social skills while participating in school camps. The one thing that I asked them to do was to ensure that they looked after their teachers who are basically on duty 24 hours a day while on camp. It is a most tiring but extremely rewarding job. I would like to thank the 3/4 staff for the amaz- ing job you have done. I’m sure many parents would have already thanked you for your efforts. Road safety Generally, school parking zones are congested in the mornings and afternoons, and our school drop off zones are typical of most. I am requesting that all parents exercise patience during our drop off and pick up times. Obviously, student safety is paramount and we have rules in place to make sure we continue to provide a safe and orderly environment. Please also obey the road rules; the speed limit is 40km/hr in Baxter Street and you must not double park when picking up students. If we witness erratic driving, that challenges the safety of our students; we will have no hesitation in reporting any driver to the police. I would like to thank all of you in advance for continuing to make sure our students are safe. Early Pick Up We are requesting that parents do not pick up students in the last half hour of the day unless it is absolutely essential. These early pick-ups are a huge disruption to the office at a very busy time of the year as well as being a disruption to children’s learning. Parents don’t realise when they come in to arrange these early pick ups that office staff are often having to broadcast over the entire school to locate students and this is extremely disruptive to other classes when we are doing this over and over again. Please try to assist us with this issue. Thanks Have a great weekend everyone. 3/4 PHILLIP ISLAND ADVENTURE CAMP A REPORT FROM OUR HAPPY CAMPERS

Phillip Island Camp was one of the greatest things the 3/4 students have ever experienced. On Wednesday the 22nd to Friday the 24th of November, many of the 3/4 students of Frankston Primary School attended Phillip Island Adventure Resort for their school camp. For a lot of these students, this was their first time away from home. The students who did not attend camp also had a spectacular time, with many opportunities provided for them too. When we arrived at school on Wednesday morning, we got ourselves organised, ready to board the coach. Once our trip was underway, we received our camp booklets which told us who our cabin friends and activity groups were. Along the way we saw some magnificent views. We stopped at San Remo to watch the plump pelicans get fed. As well as eating our yummy lunches, we enjoyed a play at the beautiful playground. At approximately 1pm, we arrived at the resort and found our cabins. Firstly, we were introduced to our amazing programmers, Taylor and Hayley. Then we got to admire the camp’s facilities. Our camp was finally underway!!! During our time at Phillip Island Camp, we had the opportunity to experience many mind-blowing activities, including the Flying Fox, Archery, Low Ropes, Giant Swing, Circotron and canoeing. All of the students were amazed at the extraordinary activities that were on offer. Many of us achieved our goals and faced our fears! Each day we went on exciting excursions. At night we observed the Little Penguins coming ashore to waddle home for the night. The next day, we walked to Amaze’n Things to experience the wonders of magic and illusions within the emporium. We attended the Conservation Centre to admire the cute and fluffy koalas as well as wallabies, kookaburras and rabbits. Twelve of our wonderful 3/4 students who did not attend camp were also treated with some ex-citing activities. Bunnings volunteers came to help with planting some flowers to take home in pots with a garden torch. On the Friday, we enjoyed an excursion to Strike, which included laser tag, bowling and pizza! After the extraordinary excursion we went back to school to play outside. We had a spectacular time! Our time away was both exhausting and exciting! We are all looking forward to next

year’s camp!

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Next Tuesday is the big night. We are all looking forward to once again, highlighting our Performing Arts Program through our Christmas Concert. At this stage, the weather forecast is for a mild day with a slight chance of showers in the afternoon so please come prepared for this. Our students have been working hard to ensure that their items are entertaining and that they put on a great show for everyone there. We start cooking on the BBQ from 5:00pm onwards and we will be selling sausages, drinks, ice-creams and tea and coffee. We hope you will take advantage of this and have the night off from cooking. Remember this is a fundraiser for our school and all monies raised on the night provide wonderful resources for our stu-dents. The picnic starts at 5:00pm so bring yourselves and a picnic blanket and enjoy the food. The concert begins at 6:30pm and you won’t be disappointed. Last year was a huge success with most of our families in at-tendance so we hope to see an even bigger turn out this year. We promise you that you won’t be disappointed………….the entertainment will be wonderful.

FRANKSTON PRIMARY SCHOOL BOOK AMNESTY We encourage everyone to look around their homes for any Frankston Primary School books. The 3/4 students will come around every day to collect your books and return them to their correct homes. Save Books! Save Money!

How many do you think you can find? Thanks Maya, Ru’a, Tayla and Anika 3/4R
