I’m so pleased and excited to be joining the school community, and I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know everyone. We have had a busy start to our term as you will see! The children have all settled really well back into school routine and are working extremely hard. It has been lovely to spend time in classes, sharing their achievements and celebrating learning. Congratulations to all the children who were chosen by their teachers to receive Head Teacher award stickers for extra special work and effort this week. Our weekly newsletters will continue this term, we are planning to begin a news group with representatives from each class so that the children have the opportunity to be involved in reporting their own news from school each week. Have a lovely weekend, with hopefully some sunshine! Kind regards Paul Smith Many thanks to Hannah (Y1) and her family who took the remaining bags of rice and sold them at their church to enable us to complete our 90kg rice challenge project. Thank you to everyone in our school community who bought rice and helped us raise £270. The money will now be sent to Malawi to enable a child to go to secondary school for a whole year. Well done to Alexis (Y6), who had the initial idea in February after reading a First News article in a Guided Reading session at school and felt inspired to make a difference.

Many thanks to Hannah (Y1) and her family who took
the remaining bags of rice and sold them at their

challenge project. Thank you to everyone in our school

The money will now be sent to Malawi to enable a child
to go to secondary school for a whole year. Well done
to Alexis (Y6), who had the initial idea in February after
pumps/trainers in school on Wednesdays, along with
a tracksuit/warm top and jogging bottoms as lessons
will take place outside, weather permitting. Sports
Premium money is being used to fund this activity.
During Welly Wednesday this week, we
recalled Monday’s story in which Smudge (a
rabbit) had made a mud rabbit to be his
brother. We thought a mud rabbit might be
a bit tricky so William suggested a mud
crocodile! With a great team of wet- mud
makers, some shaping, stone eyes and
green sticky-weed teeth, the crocodile took
shape. Arnold decided to add some spines
(made of stones) all down his back… Next
week’s challenge: a mud T-Rex!
This week in Year 5 and 6 we have been introduced to two books by the same author, Shaun Tan, which are ‘The Arrival’ and ‘The Lost Thing’. The Arrival has no words so we are excited to find out how it will turn out! We have found out that our topic for this term is 'Entertainment in the 60s', which shall involve the end of year production of The Beatles. We are all very excited about it! We have also started PE with Mr Leather where we will be learning how to play cricket. By Tom and William
This week the children in Year 1 and 2 were
very excited to receive an unexpected letter
from Bob. He had just got a new job as the
cleaner on the moon. He did not know very
much about the moon and wanted us to
help him. Fortunately, the children knew
lots of facts and details that they were able
to share with Bob. They were also able to
offer advice about what he would need to
take with him.
This week Year 3 and 4 began their new topic ‘The Great War’. We learnt about the significance and symbolism of the poppy and read in ‘Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae. Following this, each child made their own poppy to place on our display. Afterwards, we researched and learned why World War One began and identified the countries that were involved on an atlas.
In English, we began our text, ‘I believe in Unicorns,’ by Michael Morpurgo. We listened to setting descriptions, discussed the images they conjured and created maps based on them. Finally, we collected interesting adjectives and emotive adverbs, and created our own descriptions of the forests in the story.
