Congratulations to our school leaders who attended the Halogen Leaders Conference this week on Monday at Darling Harbour Sydney.
From all reports, their appearance, maturity and engagement was outstanding. The leadership team will be working collaboratively to initiate a project in the school throughout the year, giving them the opportunity to use the training and new skills that they were gained at the conference.
2019 Easter Hat Parade After an overwhelming amount of feedback from our 3-6 students, the Easter Hat Parade this year will be open to all students K-6.
It is with much excitement that we can announce that students in years 3 to 6 will have the chance to join in with the Easter fun. This is a direct result of students in 2018 requesting involvement and being disappointed that they didn’t get to have a hat parade.
The parade will commence at 11:30am on Wednesday 10th April. All Easter Hats are to be made at home and we look forward to seeing how creative our students (and parents) can be!
Parents who do not wish their child to participate in Easter activities need to contact their class teacher by phone, through the App, by email or in person.
Student Attendance at School Thank you to parents who provide notes or call the office with details of their child’s absence from school.
Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students
Parents or carers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day. Children must commence school by age 6 and then complete year 10.
Please provide your child’s teacher with a reason for non attendance within 3 days of their return.
In accordance with our school procedures, if your child is away from school, you will receive a phone call from your child’s teacher on or before the 3rd day of them being absent from school.
Attendance SMS At the beginning of the year a glitch with software resulted in many parents receiving SMS messages regarding their child’s absences that had already been explained or were from a very long while ago.
Please note that next Monday 18th March, we have arranged with our software provider to trial the SMS messaging system again. Many parents and teachers found this form of communication very helpful and an easy way to explain their child’s absence.
The SMS messaging should only be for Monday 18th March, so if you receive notice of absence for any other day, we ask that you please disregard them, and there is no need to reply.
I thank you all in advance for your patience in this matter and hope the trial on Monday is a success.
Congratulations Mrs Higgins Mrs Higgins and Mr B have spent Thursday and Friday participating in the 2019 Leadership Initiate training in Sydney.
Congratulations to Mrs Higgins who applied to be part of the initiative and was successfully chosen to take up one of the 75 positions out of over 1000 applicants.
On Monday the 4th of March, Year 1 and K6R attended a living world talk delivered by Mark
Kesby. The students extended on what they had learnt in class this term as they heard
about the needs of living things in our local environment. Mark shared his knowledge of
Koalas, Micro Bats and other animals that can be found in the local Gunnedah area. The
students focused on the importance of water and shelter for living things and looked at
some strategies for helping local animals survive. Mark kindly donated two shelter boxes to
the school and the students are looking forward to watching to see who comes to live
inside them. After the talk the students went on a koala hunt and were lucky enough to
spot a koala resting in the tree, as well as some native birds.

On the 11th of March all of the Leadership Team
travelled to Sydney to attend The National Young
Leaders Day. At this event we were given the
opportunity to listen to four amazing guest
speakers: Tim Diamond (Cotton On Foundation),
Tasmin Janu (Author), Cate Campbell (Olympic
Swimmer) and Holly Ferling (Australian Cricketer).
All of these inspiring people taught us more
about how to work through challenging times
and how our actions can have a positive
influence on those around us.
We all look forward to telling the rest of the
school about this wonderful experience at the
Week 9 Whole School Assembly.
We will leave you with some of the inspiring
quotes we took from the day.
“Embrace the scary but exciting”.
