Friday 11th August 2017 Term 3 Issue 11 PYJAMA DAY FUNDRAISER On Friday 4 th August, TCRTHS celebrated our own pyjama day, where staff and students dressed down in their PJ’s to raise money for two fantastic causes. Our school charity, Ronald McDonald House, as well as Jeans 4 Genes Day, will both receive monies raised from our school community. On the day, students were challenged to dress down in their PJs with prizes given for each year group on our morning assembly. Our students really showed their school spirit, with more than half of the school dressing in their pyjamas. Prizes were given to the following students for their phenomenal outfits and school spirit: Adrian Forrester – Year 7 Courtney Harcombe – Year 8 Chantiel Weir and Montana Keough – Year 9 Justin Alexander – Year 10 Chelcey Hancock – Year 11 Matthew Gray – Year 12 Staff were also encouraged to dress down and we were not disappointed, with some fantastic outfits being worn on the day. Amanda Sullivan was lucky enough to win the staff prize with a colour-coordinated, bright pink and blue ensemble. I would like to thank all staff and students who participated in the day and congratulate the school community on raising $300 for our nominated charities. Ms Lisa Doherty SRC Coordinator

From the
Principal’s Desk Dear Parents and Members of the School Community
As always it has been a busy two weeks since I last wrote to you, with the staff and students
involved in a wide variety of activities both in and outside the classroom.
SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR
Once again this year we have been successful in gaining positions for both our choir and
dancers in the Schools Spectacular. The theme for this year is ‘Own the Moment’, and students
will perform in Sydney at the end of November. The students have already started to
participate in a range of fundraising activities to assist with the cost of the excursion and there
are many more planned. Please look out for these opportunities and assist the students in
achieving this goal.
CHPA RIDE FOR MABEL AND PRADER WILLI SYNDROME
From 1pm on Thursday 31st August four teams of riders led by CHPA athletes will ride stationary
(spin bikes) for a 24-hour period. Participants will gain sponsorship and have other associated
fundraisers to assist raise money for a project that our partner from Phyz X, Justin Johnston, is
running within our local community after his daughter was born with Prader Willi Syndrome.
More information about how to get involved will be available shortly.
We would appreciate any ideas and/or donations to the cause if you have contacts in the
Orange community that could help us.
Please email [email protected] or call the school if you can help with sponsorship.

Cyber safety is becoming more and more of an issue for families and schools.
Internet safety tips for parents
Do not let potential problems stop you from letting your child use technology for their educa-
tion and personal interests.
Put computers in a communal area of the house and try to limit portable devices (mobiles,
laptops, tablets) in bedrooms.
Consider using a USB charging station that can charge numerous devices at once thus, your
child will need to bring their device to that station to charge at night. Alternatively, charges
could be put in hallways or the kitchen at night to help limit usage during sleep time.
Consider installing filters on home computers.
Try to find out what your child is doing online. Talk to them regularly about websites they visit
or who they are following on Instagram and snapchat.
Encourage your child to tell you if they ever have a problem on the internet or if they are un-
sure of anything. Reassure them that you will not take away their connection to the inter-
net if issues occur that they want to discuss.
Remind your child to keep personal information private. YAPPY is a useful acronym to remind
students of the personal information they should not share on public online spaces. Your
full name, Address, Phone number, Passwords, Your plans
Remind your child that not everything on the internet is true and not all internet users tell the
truth.
Make sure your child sets up their online accounts to private to limit access to people they
know well. Consider age restrictions on sites such as 13+
Try and encourage your child to balance their leisure time
Create internet and usage rules for your house.
Explore government resources for parents and students such as the cyber smart website. There is
also a quick, fun quiz for students: https:// www. esafety.gov.au/kids-quiz/
PLEASE SAVE YOUR WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN TOKENS AND DROP
THEM INTO THE BOX LOCATED IN THE FRONT FOYER OF THE SCHOOL.
UNIFORM DONATIONS
If you are spring cleaning your cupboards soon please consider donating
any unwanted items of school uniform to our school. Donations can be
dropped off at the Front Office.
