KINGSLEY AT HOME NEWSLETTER
WELCOMEOn behalf of the entire Kingsley staff I would like to extend ourimmense gratitude to you for your support during this verydifferent academic year. It certainly has been unprecedentedand will remain etched in our memories for years to come.
May I begin by congratulating all our pupils who have shownversatility, resilience and positivity throughout the lockdownperiod. When challenged with changing their learning methodsto online platforms they have truly embraced a growth mindset– they should be immensely proud of themselves.
Home learning is certainly a team effort and I would like toreiterate my thanks to you, the parents, for all the support Iknow you have been giving behind the scenes to enable thepupils to continue to progress with their learning.
And last but by no means least I would like to thank theteaching and support staff. Every single one has played theirpart and worked tremendously hard to ensure to ensure thesmooth transition to home learning. Ms Owens and I are veryaware that we are surrounded by a wonderful team ofdedicated teachers who, along with the support staff, haveworked tirelessly to open school to as many pupils as possibleas well as maintaining a very full online presence.
Sadly at this time of year we do have to say goodbye to somestaff as they take up new opportunities and adventures. So toRachel Whiting: Head of Prep, Suzanne Smith: LearningSupport Specialist, Julie Davies: PE Teacher and Head of Year 9(who has secured an exciting teaching post in Malaysia),Jatinder Boyal: IT Teacher, Amanda Griffiths: OfficeAdministrator and Receptionist, Kerrie Lewis, who has beenhelping as Office Administrator, Adam Baker, who has beentraining in the Science Department, Peggy Doubleday, whohas returned to provide support for English and Drama, EmmaSmith: LRC Assistant (who will be starting teacher training atKingsley next year) and Alan Edwards: Ski Team Manager whohas decided to retire at the end of this term; we wish you allthe very best in your future endeavours and thank you forall the kindness and generosity you have given to The KingsleySchool.
Of course, with every sad farewell comes a warm welcome, andwe look forward to introducing you to our newest members ofthe team in September.
This will be the final edition of the Kingsley at Home Newsletterfor the year. We hope that you have enjoyed reading theseweekly editions as much as have enjoyed putting themtogether. They have certainly helped to bring the wholecommunity a little closer together since we began lockdown inMarch. Thank you for all your lovely comments, messages andsubmissions. We are keen to continue with a similar form ofwhole school communication in September... ao watch thisspace!
On behalf of Ms Owens and I, I would like to send you all ourwarmest wishes for the summer. Please do enjoy time withyour friends and families, stay safe and we look forward tohopefully seeing everyone in in person in September.

The Sixth Form Senior and Deputy Charity Prefects announced the charities that the SixthForm Leadership Team will be raising funds and awareness for over the next year during
the Celebration Assembly...
THE GREAT KINGSLEYSLEEP OUT!
On Thursday evening, the community came together for a virtual sleep out, withpupils and staff setting up dens and tents at home, then connecting on Teams for
burgers and s'mores. Mrs Whiting read a bedtime story for all the Prep pupils, and, without wanting anyone to miss out, Mrs Rogers read one for Senior pupils too!
The whole group met again the following morning for breakfast.
We think we may have to make this a regular event!
No end of term would be complete without a Celebration Assembly , and
although we couldn 't all be together in person this year , the community all
tuned in to a live Celebration Assembly on Teams , hosted by the Sixth Form
Leadership Team .
To make the assembly as authentic as possible , the team presented from the
Senior School Hall . It was a special pleasure to have Year 6 sat distanced in
the hall with us !
Despite a couple of technical and bandwith issues (such is the limitation of
the technology ! ) , the community said farewell to members of staff ,
congratulated award winners , and enjoyed a whole host of prepared videos ,
including a Teams skit , a Sound of Music medley , a catch up with everyone 's
favourite staff boyband and a special lockdown performance . . .

A huge congratulations to the Sixth Form Leadership Team for putting
together a brilliant assembly in very different circumstances . It was a real
challenge , and they absolutely rose to it .

Year 1 HomeLearning
Eloise has been busy this week preparing for theKingsley "Virtual Sleep Out" and drew pictures toshare her plans for the event. She thought carefullyabout her tent, picnic, lighting and the other detailsfor her plans. We hope you had lots of fun takingpart in this event, Eloise!
Eloise also wrote a lovely poem as part of her Englishlessons and worked extremely hard to improve onher first draft, while using exceptional presentation. She has made extraordinary progress in her cursivehandwriting and has learnt to use rhyming lines andto present her poetry using the correct layout.
Olivia has worked hard on creating an informationpage for her creative curriculum homework. Sheresearched facts about clown fish and grouped all ofher facts using clear paragraphs, neat presentationand used an appropriate photograph to add furtherdetail to her project. We have certainly learnt lots ofnew and fascinating facts about clown fish thanks toOlivia!
New AdditionsThe Hayton family have two new additions to theirfamily home. Kitty and Elizabeth Hayton shared somewonderful photos of their baby mice which certainlyhave the cute factor! They named them Spooky andAudrey and have been enjoying playing and getting toknow them since their arrival.

YEAR 6 CELEBRATION
Despite their unusual end to the year , Year 6 have enjoyed having the
Senior School LRC as their c lassroom, along with their own pr ivate use of
the garden. After f in ish ing their lessons and fun act iv i t ies , the pupi ls
enjoyed a celebrat ion v ideo of performances, photos and discuss ions
about their 'best bits of Year 6 ' . They had also prepared a special surpr ise
video for Miss Slater to say thank you!
Year 6 have also made Kingsley h istory (again!) by having their year group
photo taken on the Senior School stai rcase. Distanced or not , we' re quite
sure that a Prep School c lass has not done this before!
Wishing you al l a lovely summer. Keep safe, and keep smi l ing.
We're very proud of you al l .

YEAR 8 CHEMISTRY(IN ACROSTIC POEM FORM!)Mrs Baker's Year 8 chemistry class finished off their year by creating some fun acrostic poems...
Y = Yttrium is a metal, element number 39.Elements are made up of only one type of atom.Atoms are small particles from which all substances are made.Rhodium is used in jewellery. 8th element in the periodic table is Oxygen. Corrosion happens when a substance reacts with Oxygen.Hydrogen is the most common element in the solar system. Experiments are fun!Mrs Baker is the best!Iodine is element number 53 in the periodic table.Sodium Chloride is table salt. Groups of Year 9 and 10 students have been
taking part in Round Square 'Postcard' meetings
on Zoom over the past few weeks, logging in to
speak to other students all over the world. Hosts
take it in turns to present and discuss their own
country's unique culture. The girls enjoyed
learning about Japan and India so much, that
they put themselves forward to the Round Square
CEO to be the next hosts, and create a 'Postcard
from Britain'.
The meeting welcomed just under 100 students
from all over the world, including from India,
Germany, Bangladesh, Japan, USA, Peru and the
UK.
The 'Behind the Scenes in England' event,
planned and run by our girls, included discussions
and presentations on English traditions, people
and places, a guide on Cockney rhyming slang
and a look into what the ongoing English tea
debate is all about.
The girls were absolutely terrific, hosting with
utmost confidence and professionalism, and the
discussions continued long after the advertised
ending time. A brilliant opportunity to speak to
people and learn from other cultures from
around the world.
Following the event, Mrs Rogers was contacted
by Round Square, who asked for the Postcard to
be written up as a case study. The girls will be
participating in another international meeting to
discuss their experiences.
A BRITISHPOSTCARD
"I have really enjoyed being part of the Round
Square community over the last few weeks in
lockdown as I have learned so much about
different cultures and talking to many different
people from all around the world.
We were so lucky to get to host an event
ourselves and we went through a rehearsal at
lunchtime to get it perfect. By hosting the call, I
have had my confidence boosted massively and
learned more about our country too as well as
others getting involved and telling me about
their cultures.
I can't wait to get back in to school and
hopefully lead another one, as well as finding
more opportunities to meet face to face and
make some international friends."
Mia F
"I am so thankful for this whole experience. I was
hesitant to begin with, however, I am so glad I pushed
myself out of my comfort zone. Learning about
different cultures and also talking to people we may
never meet, but with such interesting stories to tell
and living completely different lives, has been
so beneficial. My confidence has improved greatly
and I never thought that this was something in which I
would participate.
Although I have adapted well to lockdown, at times, I
have found it very challenging. Being involved in the
'Round Square Postcard Calls' has therefore been
such an incredible and much needed distraction. It
has also been an outlet to channel my energy into! On
the previous India call, when going into breakout
groups, we discussed "adventure" and
our interpretations of this theme. Together we
considered the limitations which may be imposed on
our 'adventures' by our location. Afterwards I was able
to represent our group and had to feedback to the
whole call. This was frightening as I had no time to
prepare, but I felt so honoured to have the
opportunity to represent Kingsley!
In the Postcard Meeting that we hosted, we
experienced a few technical issues so I stepped in to
finish the presentation for one of the members of our
team. As I was unfamiliar with her presentation this
was challenging! It taught me how important it is to
plan for the worst and mitigate any issues which may
arise, whilst remaining calm.
Participating in the Postcard Meetings has been an
invaluable and unforgettable Kingsley experience for
me.

The Round Square Zoom call was a great experience
for me and my peers. We were given a chance to
enlighten students and teachers around the world
about the UK. Because of all that has been
happening, we wanted to make a light hearted yet
informative call - something in which they could learn
something new. Within the space of 3 weeks, we were
able to put together presentations which were soon
to become the body of the call. Each member of the
team went about researching a topic that interested
them with the guidance of Mrs Rogers. After many
lunchtime practises and a session with Round Square
CEO Rachel Westgarth, we were eventually ready to
present.
Topics ranged from England’s traditional dishes to the
large variety of accents that we have in the UK. I
chose to talk about a natural phenomenon in south
eastern England called the Severn tidal bore. I was
surprised at the interest taken in this topic by other
students. We even learned that there are other tidal
bores in places such as Canada that act in the same
way there as they do here. I also had the opportunity
to teach our Zoom call attendees how to speak in
Cockney rhyming slang, something which I was fairly
new to as well.
One of my favourite moments from the call was when
our compares, Mia and Piper, asked everyone to show
their homemade scones to the camera. At first we
weren’t sure how many people would have made
some however they all exceeded our expectations.
Students from India, Peru, the USA and more had
brought a scone to the call which was encouraging
for us as it showed that they were open to learning
new things about England.
Overall, I really enjoyed myself and I think everyone
else did too. Hopefully we can do something like this
again.

Congratulations to al l who participated in last week's MarathonMovement Challenge for National Schools Sports Week!
ANGELINA'S BIKINGMARATHON
Angelina has been busy working on a cycl ing challenge throughoutlockdown, aiming to complete a 26.2 mile distance after al l the variousbig charity marathons were cancelled. With the help of her family, she
started building up her usual cycl ing to higher mileage, often riding sixdays a week during the lockdown period.
Miss Windsor's Marathon Movement Challenge for National School SportsWeek proved the perfect t iming for Angelina to meet her goal!
Angelina and her Dad set offat 6:30am on Thursday 25th
June to complete the ful l 26.2miles, only stopping once atmile 17 for a quick sandwich
and a lesson on Teams at9am, before heading back out
to complete the last leg.The promise of an ice cream
at mile 24 got her home!
An incredible achievement, well done Angelina. We'retold that cycl ing down the
middle of The Parade traff icfree is quite the experience!
