Travel Tracker Badge Competition Well done to all those who entered the Travel Tracker Badge Competition! We received over 100 creative designs which made it very challenging to pick the top 3 designs to send off to be judged. But here they are, the top three, created by Daisy (Yr4), Manika (Yr3) and Rere (Yr6). Closely followed by the runners up Hanna (Yr2), Chalice (Yr4), Alexander (Yr4) and Maisie (Yr3). Fingers crossed you might see one of their designs on a badge in the future!

Lent 2020 Wednesday 26th February 2020 is Ash Wednesday and the start of the season Lent. It is a day of fasting and abstinence. As it is half term, and we will not be in school, please consider taking your children to Mass. During the 40 days and 40 nights please look at the Lenten Walk With Me calendars – we will send these out today. Masses at Sacred Heart Church: 9.00am and 6.30pm ASH WEDNESDAY.

Lent 2020 Cake Sales During Lent we will be having a number of cake sales to raise money for our Lenten charities. Please support the event by making cakes or buying them from a shop. On cake sale days (each Tuesday starting with Year 5/6), children can bring in money to purchase cakes (30p/50p in price). Don’t forget! Any cakes that we do not sell will be sold after school each Tuesday during Lent. Check the newsletter each week to see whose turn it it.

Goodbye Harpreet Today we said goodbye to Mrs Harpreet Jessel.

She had served our school community as a Lunchtime Supervisor over the past 14 years. We gave her a great send off with cards, gifts and flowers.

She loved to hear the children sing, and we sang our special school Mission Song to wish her well. We wish her well and thank her for her service. She will continue to work at Rise and Shine.

Go Well, Go Safely. Sacred Heart’s GOT TALENT 2020 WOW – what a fantastic evening we had on Tuesday this week. The children in Year 3/4/5/6 performed their hearts out on stage – we have a lot of stars in the making ☺ I was so impressed with the amount of children interested in auditioning.

If you were not successful this time, please keep trying as we would love to see you performing on stage in the future. ☺ Thank you to all the parents and friends that were able to support the children; the turnout was great! A huge thank

you to our wonderful team of staff for organising this event, especially to Mrs Aldrich who coordinated the event.

World Book Day As a school, we have been working hard this year on developing children’s vocabulary. We continue to seek new and inventive ways to engage them with vocabulary; with that said, as part of our World Book Day celebrations this year, we will be holding a Vocabulary Parade. The parade will take place on Thursday the 5th of March. This will be an exciting opportunity to explore vocabulary and develop children’s love of language. Children will be asked to wear a costume that illustrates their chosen word. For some children, they may choose to dress as a noun (for example a strawberry, a dog or a princess). For others, they may want to challenge themselves to wear an obscure word as their costume to teach to their friends. Be creative with your costumes - there are plenty of inventive ideas online! We are also going to ask that children participate in our Extreme Reading challenge. We are asking that the children show that reading can take place anywhere by sending in pictures of them reading in unusual places! Children's entries can be emailed to [email protected]. Further details can be found on our school Facebook page. Mousike Ensemble As part of the music curriculum, the children in Year 1 and Year 5 will be taking part in a big music event. This is taking place in March but the children are beginning the practice now – learning songs that are linked to their Geography curriculum (Eco Warriors) and learning their instrument parts. The children will also be learning a ‘school showcase,’ but this is top secret at this stage! The children will be welcoming 200 other children from across our Catholic Schools to perform and celebrate their learning. Of course, I will be dressing up and turning the hall into something very exciting ☺. Secondary School Places (YEAR 6 Parents) All parents and children in Year 6 will receive official notification on Monday 2nd March on which Secondary school you have been allocated either by e-mail or through the post. We will be supporting Year 6 in transition to Secondary school over the next 5 months as we work in partnership with Cardinal Wiseman and the other secondary schools. If you have any immediate queries, then please speak to Mrs Taggart in the school office.
