® What is Kids in Parks and how does it help get kids acve outdoors? The Kids in Parks program has created a network of TRACK Trails (hiking, disc golf, paddling, geocaching, biking, and other types of trails) designed to provide kids and families with fun outdoor recreaon opportunies. Each TRACK Trail has a series of self-guided brochures that turn an ordinary oung into a fun-filled adventure. Kids register their TRACK Trail adventures through the program’s website (kidsinparks.com) and receive FREE prizes in the mail designed to make their next outdoor adventure more fun. What are Park Prescripons and why should I use them? In general, people spend too much me engaging with electronic media and not enough me being physically acve outdoors. These lifestyle choices are having devastang impacts on the health of our kids and families. While medicines are available to treat chronic disease, physical acvity in nature has been recognized as an effecve tool to treat the root of the problem. Therefore, there has been a growing movement for healthcare providers to prescribe paents outdoor acvity in parks called Park Prescripons or Park Rx. A growing network of TRACK Trails propels them toward a lifetime of healthy outdoor activity! How can TRACK Rx help fulfill PCMH requirements? If your pracce has assessed community populaon informaon and determined that physical acvity resources are needed to support your paent populaon as part of the Paent Care Medical Home’s KM 21 Core Requirement, you may be able to use the Kids in Parks program’s TRACK Rx materials to fulfill the KM 26 Competency Requirement by geng your paents connected with physical acvity opportunies in the community. Aſter that, your pracce would simply have to use the materials: place the trailhead sign in your pracce, keep it stocked with the TRACK Rx brochures, and formally write prescripons (as appropriate) to your paents.
