Over the last few weeks leadership staff have been conducting formalised classroom observations and performance development discussions with each of the staff. This element of our work includes a visit during lesson time for us to engage with the students, their teachers and the teaching and learning program. It is great to get a chance to spend uninterrupted time in with classes. OPEN NIGHT It was wonderful to see so many families sharing in their children’s knowledge and achievements at Open Night. The classrooms, STEM space and PE area were all busy with people engaging in a variety of activities. We saw families: analysing student progress; making music with bananas: forming a ukulele band; exploring the brain, growth mindset and wellbeing; taking the chopstick challenge…all educational and so much fun! School has certainly changed over the years. VACATION CARE and PUPIL FREE DAY SURVEY RESULTS Thank you to the many respondents who completed the online survey regarding usage of vacation care and pupil free day services at Freeling. The results look very promising and we are now in discussions with Happy Haven about the process and possible timelines for the implementation of a trial period. Stay-tuned! READING HOUR (Today and everyday!) There seems to be special days to highlight so many different events and today (Thursday 19 th September) is no exception. The Australian Reading Hour (ARH) is an important annual campaign encouraging Australians of all ages to pick up a book at any time of the day or night and read for an hour. We cannot stress enough the importance of modelling reading for all of its purposes to your children and to encourage them to do the same. Whilst finding an hour a day in our busy schedules can be unfathomable, there is lots of research to show the positive impact of reading for even 10 minutes each day across all aspects of children’s learning. SENIOR CHOIR Friday the 20 th September is the culmination of the hard work and energy our students have put into learning the South Australian Primary Schools Music Festival repertoire for 2019. Seventeen of our choir students will join approximately 400 other students from schools across the state to perform on the stage at Festival Theatre. It’s an opportunity not all students get and it is one they will remember forever. We wish the students the very best for Friday night and thank our families for the commitment they have made in supporting this aspect of their learning. SPORTS DAY Thursday 26 th September, Week 10 DONATIONS PLEASE Cakes/Slices & Jelly Cups If you can help out, please let Tanya Diener or the front office know. NO NUTS PLEASE WRAP ITEMS INDIVIDUALLY. PLEASE REMEMBER STUDENTS ARE NOT TO ARRIVE ON SCHOOL GROUNDS BEFORE 8:30am UNLESS THEY ARE ATTENDING OSHC. NB. If your child arrives before 8:30am, families will be advised to use the OSHC service.

SPORTS DAY – THURSDAY 26th SEPTEMBER
We are sending positive vibes that the weather on
Thursday the 26th will be ideal for our annual sports
day.
Please Be ‘Sun Smart’! We would like to see all staff,
students and parents wearing sun protection
clothing in house colours, hats and sun block. All
students need to wear sneakers and bring their own
water bottle – labelled with their name.
ALL STUDENTS are to go to their classes as usual
at the commencement of the school day. They
must also return to their classroom at the end
of recess and lunch so that they can be
checked off against the roll.
During the morning events, children must remain
with their class and teacher. After lunch, all
students will be sitting in mixed class groups in their
house teams. Each house team will have a
designated teacher identifiable by their Hi-Vis vest.
Any students that need to go to the toilet, MUST
BE SIGNED IN AND OUT BY THIS TEACHER. If for
any reason, you need to leave early with your
child, you must also report to this teacher for
signing out. Please understand, this process is
important to ensure student safety….not to be
difficult.
