Luke 4

17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling

it, he found the place where it is written:

In Christ, we are:

• Free From Sin.

• Free From Death.


1. We Are Freed From Our Unrighteousness, Sin.


What is Sin?Sin is breaking God’s laws.

I John 34Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the

law.


What’s the big deal about sin?

Sin enslaves us.John 8

34Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a

slave to sin.



Sin is an universal problem.Romans 3

23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God



Sin brings death.Romans 6

23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life

in Christ Jesus our Lord.


Now, We Are Freed to Live In Righteousness.


Romans 617But thanks be to God that, though

you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of

teaching to which you were entrusted.


Romans 618You have been set free from sin

and have become slaves to righteousness.


2. We Are Freed From Sin’s Penalty, Death.


What is death?

Death is literally a separation.


Spiritual DeathIsaiah 59

1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save,

nor his ear too dull to hear.

your sins have hidden his face from you,

Physical Death

James26As the body without the spirit is

dead, so faith without deeds is dead.


Second or Eternal DeathRevelation 21:8

8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually

immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their

place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second

death."


Now, We Are Freed From Condemnation in Christ.


Romans 8 (KJV)1There is therefore now no

condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not

after the flesh, but after the Spirit.


Romans 82For the law of the Spirit of life

in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and

death.


Romans 83For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in

the flesh:

might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but

after the Spirit.
