Bill Clinton is the first president that 2010 high school graduates can remember seeing in the White House. The former president delivered the commencement speech at the graduation ceremony for the West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences on May 15, 2010. As he spoke of the opportunities in the 21st century, he referenced the rapid progress of the Internet. He said, “When I became president, believe it or not, there were only fifty sites on the entire World Wide Web. There’ve been more than that added since I started talking.” Google didn’t come into existence until midway through his second term, and today over seven million uniquely new pages pop up on the Internet every day. – In Other Words May 2010 – Issue 10 In a day filled with such rapid change in every arena of life, how churches respond to cultural transformation is critical. Gone are the days when church leadership could say, “This is just a fad and will rapidly fizzle out. Let’s just wait it out.” As Christians, we have a clarion call to reach a generation that rarely even thinks about spiritual matters. Recent investigation by LifeWay Research found that when a group of 1400 adults ages 18 and older were asked how often they wondered, “If I were to die today, would I go to Heaven?” over fifty percent responded “Never.” Does this mean that half of the people we meet on a daily basis rarely or never even consider their eter-nal destiny? It’s not that questions about life and death are not effective; they are not even pondered by most unchurched peo-ple. We have an undeniable responsibility, a command from our Lord, to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”
It is my prayer that as we approach the second decade of the 21st century every church will strive to be faithful to the pur-poses God has set before them and effective in reaching a lost world with the unchanging Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It still may be hot outside but the summer is over at the BCM. The fall semester is here! We began the fall on August 21 with Freshmen Survival. With over 100+ freshmen in attendance, Survival was packed with games, food, and fellowship. Local col-legiate churches including First West, North Monroe, Highland, College Place, First Swartz, New Hope, and McClendon participated by either bringing food or promoting their church’s activities for college students. Thanks to everyone who made Sur-vival 2010 a great success! Our weekly events, Haven worship on Tuesday nights and 12:01 Lunch, will begin the first week and we look forward to having strong attendance at each. During these first few weeks, we know we will have students enter our doors who may have never given BCM a try. Therefore, we believe it is of utmost importance to connect with these students and share with them the gospel. Please pray for us as we reach out to the masses! Also, I want to report on our summer missions. We had over 40 students involved in missions and ministry this summer and the re-ports I am hearing are very encouraging. Our Brazil team, led by Associate Director Jenny Street, saw God do great things through them as their ministered in Florianopolis, Brazil. Our Malawi team was able to teach the Word and saw many profess Christ. Overall, it was a great summer of missions and ministry. Once again, thank you NELBA and Morehouse Associations and individually contributing churches for your support of the BCM. We could not do it without you!
