TOGETHER WE LEARN Student Voice Amy Baker and Wade Jones are our roving reporters this week on Student Voice. They tackle Public Speaking and Sporting achievements in Cross Country Athletics and League Tag. Wade: Amy: Hi my name is Amy Baker, I'm a Year 5 student and I love to play handball with my friends Ovanna, Lina, Jarmara and Hannah. At lunch we also like to hang out down on the oval at the gym equipment. I have a big brother and a little sister and I love them both a lot. My friend Lina and I are both in the Franklin Girls’ League Tag team. I’m here to write about exciting upcoming events at Franklin Public School and also what we did at school last week. Last week at school we had League Tag training with Miss Rampling and Mr Roddy. We are training to compete in the next level of League Tag in Wagga Wagga. The girls on our team have some great tagging and passing skills. Maggie Skein is a great player as is Lina Winner and Kayla Gilchrist. We play in Wagga very soon so please wish us the best of luck. Mr Roddy and Miss Rampling were also a great help during our games last week at Twickenham oval in Tumut. Thank you Miss Rampling and Mr Roddy. I interviewed Hannah Matthews about the Multicultural Public Speaking competition for 2019. Hannah said her topic was “learning from the past”. The Year 5 team with Hannah were Jewin-Alexis Cooke, Reegan Oddy and Sam Martin. Hannah said that it was exciting but at the same time nerve racking. Mr Barton still needs to pick the final teams on Wednesday but hopefully Hannah is one of the Year 5 team members. Last year Hannah came second in the competition and moved onto the first round which was in Gundagai and she hopes to go one better this year by making it to the Wagga round. Hannah said that she wishes all the best to everyone competing and she hopes all the students competing have fun. Hello my name is Wade Jones, I am a Year 5 student with a great teacher, Mr. Woodward. I have two dogs, four chickens, two cats and a sister. I enjoy playing football with my friends Mark, Will T, and Hobie Baker. I play for Young Guns in the local basketball competition. Last Wednesday we had our semis but we lost. Anyway let's talk more about this amazing school. Some students from Franklin went to represent our school at the Highlands cross country in Tumbarumba last week. Students who represented had to run a race track of 1 and a half kilometres which is a long way. The day was really cold and there were a lot of chilly runners that competed in weather of 4 degrees. For Stage 2 runners only had to do 1 lap of the race track. Sadly for Stage 3 runners had to do 2 laps of the race track. I had to go myself for two laps. Other than the cold and the long run course we all had a great time. Franklin Students competed in the Highlands Athletics carnival on Friday and we had an excellent day. The events where 100 and 200 metre sprints, high jump, long jump, shotput and relay. I was in the 100m and 200m sprints, the high jump and the long jump. I hope all the representatives had a great time and good luck to those who get through to the Riverina round. I interviewed Matthew Ferguson this week to talk about Highlands Cross Country. I asked Matthew how he went in the cross country and whether he enjoyed himself on the day. Matthew said “Yes it was good fun to go back to Tumbarumba and also I came first in the 12 years boys so I hope I will go well at Riverina” Thank you Matthew, we hope you do well at Riverina as well!
