2. Profile DOB: August 30th 1883 Born in Dunedin, NZ 2nd
youngest child out of 8 Franks father was the Chief Engineer of NZ
Railways which meant that they travelled a lot for his work. Mainly
brought up in Wellington. Frank at about 2years old (London

3. Franks Life The family was originally from England and chose
to move back to London in 1899. Charles Lowe (the oldest son)
stayed in NZ. This is where my part of the Lowe family originates
from. On there way back to England they stopped in India and lived
there for 6months. While they were there the youngest son, Eugene,
died of Cholera. Family at the Mission Rest Home, Mahableshwar,

4. Franks Life in London When the family returned to England
they lived in London where Frank finished his final year of
schooling at Eaton College. In 1909 Frank started training at the
Guys Hospital to become a dentist. During this year he also joined
the Royal Naval Reserves. Frank was a keen Rugby Player and played
for the Harlequins Rugby Football Club in London. Today this team
is very well known around the world and play in the Heinekin
Cup.
5. War is declared 1914 War was declared and Frank went was
part of the Royal Navi. The Royal Navi didnt have enough war ships
so they converted Cruise Liners by putting guns on them. Frank was
stationed on the HMS Macedonia.
6. Battles The HMS Macedonia travelled in the Atlantic
capturing German Ships. It was also part of the battle of the
Faulklins in December 1914. This battle was against the Germans who
had been based in Asia and who were making their way back to
Germany. After the British won this battle the HMS Macedonia was
sent back to England with German Prisoners.
7. The Royal Navi Division In February 1915 Frank joined the
Royal Navi Division. This division was created by the navi as there
were not enough ships for all of the sailors. Therefore they were
sailors that fought on land. Frank was a Senior Lieutenant in the

8. Training Fighting as a sailor in a boat was very different
to fighting on land, so Frank and his fellow sailors were put
through training for this.
9. Senior Lieutenant Frank Lowe Frank became a Senior
Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Division. He was a part of the
Collingwood Battalion and was in command of D company. The company
was made up of 250 men, 8 of which were officers.
10. Gallipoli Frank landed at Gallipoli with the British Army
on May 30th 1915. Sadly on June 4th Frank died in battle. He was
shot in the head as he charged at the enemy. That day almost all of
his company were killed in the Battle of Gallipoli. Out of 250 men
in the D company, only 80 survived.
