Trina came on the scene declaring that she was “Da Baddest" female rapper in the game, and with every utterance she makes, she continues to reign supreme.

But she didn't always live the glamorous life. Ka-trina Taylor grew up in Liberty City, but her drive and ability to look beyond her circumstances kept her motivated.

After graduating from high school, she had no intentions of being in the music industry, but the Miami rapper Trick Daddy asked her to collaborate on his debut album, www.thug.com, and the rest was rap history in the making. Trina spit her way into our hearts in 1998 with her unadulterated, blisteringly raw lyrical delivery on the hit single "Nann." The song rose to No. 3 on the Rap Charts and became a modern-day battle-of-the-sexes anthem. Not long after prov-ing that she could hold it down on the mic, Trina signed with Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic Records.

After releasing four chart-topping albums, this continuously rising star is planning the release of her highly-anticipated fifth album, Amazin’, on March 30. Her boisterously cocky street single, “That’s My Attitude” is a taste of Trina's fire-hot, fly-girl swag and is reminiscent of the authentic, hardcore, yet sensual tone that she’s known for. She said she went outside of the box, and still captured the style of the Trina that everybody knows on this album. Trina also said it’s going to be her best album to date. She had more control over her work this time around, so she was more experimental with her sound, trying everything from pop to club bangers. Some of the featured guests will be Ludacris, Keri Hilson, Lyfe Jennings, and, one of her favorite up-and-coming female rappers, Nicki Minaj. In the mean time you can check

out her latest mixtape Trina Introduces: Victoria Balenciaga, which announces her new alter ego.

Trina is also working hard with her new group Pretty Money. The group consists of V. Sharock Star and Angie Love, which is a hip-hop/R&B duo. The group has a two-part mixtape series out called Sittin’ Pretty and Trina’s doing just that as the CEO of her company DP Entertainment.

In addition to making new music, her clothing line Pink Diamond Couture By Trina is on the way. As a woman with a voluptuously curvy figure, she said she wanted to create a line for “bodacious women.” The sexy, yet flirty styles range from jeans that specifically cater to women with sexy curves, to sequined tees and hoodie sets. There is also talk of Trina’s upcom-ing reality show, which will give fans a look into her life both on and off stage. No release date has been announce for either project.

Trina’s a busy entrepreneur and is one of the hottest chicks in the game, but she still takes time to give back to the community, with her Diamond Doll Foundation. The foundation was created as a way to reach out to young, inner city girls, who come from underprivileged back-grounds, and show them how to rise above their difficult circumstances.

As far as her love life goes… sorry fellas, this highly-sought-after beauty has been linked to Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets. And the lips that are tattooed on his neck? Martin said he got them for her. Although, she doesn’t like to talk much about her private life, Trina stated that she is very happy right now.

They say pressure makes a diamond, and Trina is the Diamond Princess, indeed.

I’m mad that I’m 10 years late. With nine albums under their belt, and prepar-

ing for their 10th—it’s clear that Rod and Rude of the Strangeez have been doing their thing. Ears perked up when their last album “Beyond the

Fame” dropped in 2005, with corner store anthems like “Coasting” and “Good Life” featuring Lil Boosie, and club bangers like “Stop” and “Bounce with Me.”

On the surface, the Strangeez are two typical hood n___as— rapping about weed smoking, female chas-ing and money stacking, but unlike those other catchy-hooked, major record-deal southern artists— the Strangeez don’t just rap about being real, they live it.

Staying real seems to be an underlying theme to all the things you guys do—even in the case of refusing major contracts with record labels like DefJam, Interscope and Slip-n-Slide Records that many rap acts would jump at. What was the reasoning behind not taking one of those deals?

ROD: We saw it as whatever they were offering we could do it on our own. Those deals were for rappers looking for chains and cars, but they end up owing all that money back to label. We on some life-changing s__t over here, we eating— we ain't countin’ pennies.

RuDE: Money makes the world go round, but we ain't in it for the fame. We like what we’re doing— we’re able to eat and pay the bills.

So, honestly, all the money and the celebrity status didn’t appeal to you guys at all?

RuDE: Money isn’t everything. I could step up to some of these n___as who got money and be like, ‘What you gonna do?’ And they gonna fold— they ain’t gonna do s__t, because money ain't got any-thing to do with it. It’s about what you got inside— it's about heart.

ROD: Our last album sold almost 4,200 digitally in 28 major chains like Best Buy and FYE. Our "Ride Wood" album in 2003 sold 4,600 copies and was in 41 chain stores. And you can find us in a million cor-ner stores. So, we’re good. We gave up that trying to be famous s__t a long time ago.

Now you guys have established your own record label-- Major Weight Entertainment. You guys also have a recording studio, distribution company, upcoming TV show, magazine, and do club promotion. What do you have to say to those that thought you wouldn’t make it?

RuDE: I’ll make another song for them and let them hate some more.

ROD: If they don’t hate… It ain’t real.

Are you guys trying to be role models?ROD: No, we examples of what not to do.

You guys have a very unique style? Where do your musical influences come from?

ROD & RuDE: Scarface, Jay-Z, Biggy and Tupac.

14 | www.flyerpromonow.com

Page 17: FPNOCA_2ndEdition_WEB

RuDE: 2 Live Crew.ROD: We first called ourselves the Strangers

because our style was so different, we sounded like we were from everywhere. We traveled a lot and picked up a lot from surrounding cities and brought it back. The hood gave us the name Strangeez, because we've been in the game so long— we’re like OGs now.

I hear there used to be four members. How has the Strangeez group dynamics changed since the split?

ROD: You got through life, trim the fat and figure out the s__t that you do and don’t need. Rude and I have known each other for 20 years. He’s always whining and complaining, and always wants to argue, but he’s like family to me. He’s my Road Dog.

RuDE: Rod’s the boring one and I’m Rude, ya feel me— the total opposite—full of life. I’m night, and he’s day. But you need both night and day to make life.

Rod— you called Rude your “Road Dog.” That’s also one of the songs on your “Beyond the Fame” album. What’s that about?

ROD: It’s this movement we got going on. It’s about brotherhood.

RuDE: We rap about life—we more on that homeboy s__t, about making someone’s life bet-ter— about changing things. Like don’t be spending your money on jewelry when you know you should

go pay your bills with that s__t. We rap about stick-ing with each other through thick and thin and keeping it 100% real. I lost a lot of friends and I got people in the ground that ain’t coming back, but that’s life and that’s war.

You two have been in the game for 10 years strong and have nine albums under your belt. When can we expect from the next Strangeez album?

ROD: We looking to drop our 10th album “The Rod and Rude Show” on Thanksgiving Day at our album release party at Club Zanzibar in Ocala. We'll have Trina in the house. She hasn't been in this area before, so we are trying to show her a good time.

You guys have opened for major artists like Rick Ross, Lil Boosie, Webbie, Plies, Jim Jones, Jeezy, Fat Joe and Baby. Do you have any special guest on this album?

ROD: 8Ball & MJG, Lil Boosie, OJ da Juiceman, Javon Black, Pastor Troy and some local artists.

So what’s next for you two?RuDE: There are no limits. I'd try anything. If

someone said to me let’s try acting I‘d do it. I might be good— I might be bad, but at least I did it. If I want to do something, I’m going to do it— just show me once and I’ll do it.

ROD: Whatever is positive and feeds the family— I’m down.

On my Ipod:The Lil Boosie 'SuperBad'

album. I know it's a little old, but I'm still bumping to it. I can't get enough of “Miss Kissin' on You” featuring Trina and KaDe, “Bank Roll” and my favorite “Mind of a Maniac.” I keep it crunk by fol-lowing up with some Wacka Flocka Flame. He got a song featuring Soulja Boy called “Iced Out” and one called “O Letz Do it” featuring Young Show— it's that down-south ignorant nonsense you can't get enough of. Also big-bellied Rick Ross along the Triple C's and Young Jeezy came together for the hood anthem “Erryday.” Tight work.

In My Hair:Kinky-Curly. It's a set of

shampoo, conditioner and pomade that brings out the best waves you got by detan-gling and removing frizz. If your going natural, this product will make your locks look as good as the stuff you buying at the store.

Common Misconception:Golddigger. Technically, a golddigger is a ruth-

less female, with no regards for male emotion. Her only motivation is money. First, I would like to take this time and address this. We aren't 'Gold Diggers', we are 'Gold Getters.' You don't have to be a man to enjoy making money. Its 2009, and love doesn't exist, money is motivation. I make my own damn money, so I'll be damned, if I let a n___a sit on my couch and beg for Becky, if he ain't paying no damn bills. Oh honey, I am not the one. Only a real hustler can handle a true gold-getter, and if you're one of them gold-getters, go ahead girl, get that money, dig the hell out of them pockets, I got some extra shovels in the back if ya need one.

What I'm Waiting For:DJ Jazzy Jeff is coming out with a 49-song mix-

tape honoring Michael Jackson called “He's the King, I'm the DJ.” I know the man's been dead for almost six months now, but I love me some MJ. I guess we really “Don't stop until we get enough.” On the album, there will be the traditional classics, in addition to rare songs and new remixes. There is no official release date, but I'm headed out to see the Michael Jackson “This is It” movie while I wait.

The WTF:Them old ass men in the club, what I like to

call 'out-of-placers.' You know the one I'm talking about—the one with the 10-step routine, sweat-ing because he's the only one dancing, buying young girls drinks, lying saying he's 25, cover-ing up them gray hairs with a fitted cap. N___a, shouldn't you be in a cubicle doing my taxes? Isn't it past your bed time? You need to get the hell up out the club, and do something with your life. (Applies to females as well)

In My Cup:Midori Sours. The sweetest thing to get you faded. For those little ladies who want to sip

on something a little different, three of them will get you right. Make them at home with Midori melon liqueur, whiskey sour and Sprite. Delicious, tastes just like a green ICEE.

This really isn't the year to be a rapper as Lil Wayne may join T.I. as he plead guilty to attempted

weapon possession and is expected to be sentenced to a year in jail this coming February. Wayne confessed to having a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun on-board his tour bus in 2007 after leaving a show in NY. Lesson: When traveling

through the State of NY, remove your ammunition and do not carry guns; New York's gun laws are strict.

We've heard of "poppin' bottles", but party goers during Howard's Homecoming took it a little too far. Rapper Fabolous had to duck and cover after bottles were repeatedly being thrown at the club while the artist was trying to depart.

R&B singer, Monica’s new reality show, “Still Standing” premieres

on BET Tuesday, October, 27th which will follow the star and her family as she begins a new phase in her music.

The White House released the Obama's First Family photo which featured the beautiful family looking picture perfect in the Green Room. It's hard to imagine that the election was a year ago!

Tameka Foster Raymond is seen here posing at her her 'Lost Ones' charity event. Her charity supports women between the ages of 12-18 years old that are at risk of low scholastic achievement, pregnancy, drug use, other unproductive behaviors yet the party was sponsored by Hennessy. Tameka also appeared on Atlanta radio stations stating that her and Usher are "still married!" While that may legally be true, clearly she is not trying to face reality. Ten dollars says she'll still try and keep his last name after the divorce. SMH.

And on to some much needed advice...

Dear Shannon,

The holidays are approaching and I am at a lost about what to do for gifts because money is really tight and I'm already in major credit card debt. What are some alternatives I could try for this holiday season?

-Gift Giving on a Budget

Dear Gift Giving:

The economy and personal finances will have us all reconsidering what to do about about gift giving during the holidays. Here are some suggestions if you absolutely have to buy gifts. Try layaway, as the recipient will never know how it was paid for, while allowing you time to earn up to the purchase. Other alternatives include making or baking gifts, but the ultimate gift may be simply donating your time. Lend a helping hand to a friend or family as a unique gift idea; I'm sure they'll appreciate the gesture.

Happy Gifting, Shannon

Recently every time I browse a sports maga-zine there is all this hype about the Cavaliers and the Lakers. All the talk is about the Cavs

and the Lakers going to the Finals this season. Now everyone is entitled to their opinions and predictions but this reminds me of last season. Every commercial, billboard, and other things of the marketing nature were focused on Kobe v. Lebron. But, King James and the Cavaliers never made it to the Finals. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Lakers will be on top of the Western Conference. Likewise the Cavaliers may also be on top of the East. But with the additions that the Celtics made to their roster, and KG back on the court they could very well be mak-ing it to the Finals too. I respect predictions but I just don’t respect total disregard for teams that also have a legitimate chance. People were saying the Magic wouldn’t get to the finals last season but they did. They are the reigning Eastern Conference Champions and they deserve some respect. Furthermore, the Celtics’ second five could be the starting lineup for some other teams in the league. They are without a doubt a force to be reckoned with. My predictions, much like everyone else, are Cleveland, Boston and Orlando, not necessarily in that order, being the top seeds in the East. Let’s just hope that they don’t waste a shit load of money on advertising a team for the finals that never makes it there again. As a matter of fact I’m working on this very article dur-ing halftime of Opening night of the NBA. The Cavaliers and the Celtics are playing I’m going to go ahead and pre-dict the Celtics take home a W tonight.

The New Orleans Saints snatched a W from the Dolphins during week 7. The still unde-feated Saints made a statement that game when they outscored the Dolphins 22-0 in the fourth quarter. Statement or no statement this isn’t the BCS and being on top all season doesn’t necessarily guar-antee them a spot in the SuperBowl. The Steelers

handed the Vikings their first L of the season. That game the Steelers defense showed why they say offense sells tickets but defense wins games.

The Central Florida area is home to many champi-ons. Whether they grew up here or just reside here great athletes walk among us. David “D.O.” Oliver is a decorated athlete that now calls Central Florida home. Oliver, a Denver native moved to Orlando after graduating from Howard University where he played football and ran the 110m hurdles. After moving to Orlando to Train with Brooks Johnson Oliver’s professional track career began to take off. In 2004 he was ranked the #32 American amongst his fellow hurdlers. By 2006 he was ranked #7 in the world. Two short years later D.O. would become the #1 ranked American. If you watched the 2008 Olympics then you probably saw

David Oliver on the Medal Stand. It was in Beijing that he won the Bronze medal in the 110m hur-dles. This accolade is actually something Oliver

never predicted or even saw in his future. Track was just a way to earn a scholarship to college. If you would have asked D.O. what he would be doing after receiving his degree he would have told you prob-

ably working a 9 to 5. But with hard work and diligence and of course raw talent David Oliver is running track professionally for Nike, and has an Olympic Medal to prove it. I have to say I’m

highly impressed. The Olympics are a BFD!. Since winning his medal he was honored in Denver and given his own day, October 3rd. Support our local athletes please. David is currently preparing for World Indoor Championships in 2010 and World Outdoor Championships in 2011 and of Course the 2012 Olympic Games.
