T his Month Lil’ D had to give it to you raw during our interview about DJs and promoters. These simple instructions can help you have a more

successful event, touch up on your DJ knowledge, as well as keep you away from party fouls. Make sure you take notes because this is a simple guide to create more avenues for your establishment.

So I asked Lil D’ what he wanted to talk about this most and this is where the conversation went.

!!1st!! Know your product. Whether it be a party or a pen you have to know how, to who, when, and where to market it. You don’t want to be promoting a grown and sexy event at a high school. 9 x out of 10 you might get 3 lonely mamas that come to your event due to a little one having something saying sexy in his book bag. Most people don’t look at their part as a product but that’s exactly what it is. Any product you have takes time, effort, and money to make a success.

Next . Stop getting your little sister to design your flyers. I’m tired of paper flyers getting put on my wind shield that stick to it when it rains. Presentation is everything. If your flyer looks like you put it together with magazines and Elmer’s glue you will look the same way. Keep it clean and make sure your design shows your event in the right light. This goes hand in hand with knowing your market.

3rd and foremost. Stop letting all of your homeboys into the club for free. I have never seen any-one make money from the door of a free party. Promote to friends that don’t mind paying to support your event. Make it a marketable theme. Think of things that cater to your crowd and use that to your advantage as a way to bring a crowd. Study your market well or else you will fail. You cant expect to have big party based off of the fact

that everybody know you or you feel you are famous. People aren’t just going to show up. Not even Diddy is going to throw a party and not promote it. So be sure to market your event.

4th. Do not use TV. Use radio. There are only 2 radio stations in this city that everybody hears. When it comes to TV there are hundreds of stations that people can choose from so what are the odds of them being on your station to see your commercial. Very slim. Not everybody sits at home and watches TV all day. The streets move harder.

Last but not least you have to know your target market and know what’s going on around you. Try throwing your event around other major events. Think. Why would you throw an event on

the same day as a major concert as Jagged Edge and feel like you will out sell them? Who do you think will come to see Little Pookie Johnson perform over J.E. and your presentation of promotion is not right. Invest in your craft. Nobody makes it without grinding hard and putting in effort. Come with themes and try things nobody else is doing in your city. Know what’s going on where and why you will be a good event at this time and attack. Play wise. This is not dominoes. Studying long does not mean you studied wrong when it comes to party planning. Be conscious of your surroundings and plan ahead to have plenty of time to make it work. Once again do not use TV. Not hating on TV but for events it doesn’t work. Come see me first at the station lol.

That is pretty accurate advice signing off this month. Be sure to listen to Lil’ D daily on 98.3 The Beat to hear some of the best music spinning in the city. Also participate in his topic of the day to show the city how you feel. If you have a question or concern as far as any topic you would like to see Lil’ D touch on in our radio world feel free to contact FPN of Columbus.

Columbus is said to be one of the richest cities in Georgia, yet the black community suffers drastically here. Many tag the urban community as troublesome and uncivilized. In some circumstances those views can be seen as accurate consider-ing some of the actions and reports seen in the nightlife. For the most part, the ignorance of some that may yield a bad name for the entire black community. It’s those that will pull out a gun at clubs just for kicks that scare the community out of what they might call an everyday living. Even the people with the best of heart are frowned upon without reasoning. Giving chances to someone that looks like someone else that has interfered in your life in some form or fashion may feel as deadly as drinking gasoline in a fire pit to some people.

So what makes Columbus so awkward? Maybe it’s the mentality of your next door neighbor or the dirty stares that you get from your grocery store cashier. Or let’s try the lady that locks her door when you cross the street or the secret whispers of the table next to you in a fine restaurant. Either way it goes whether there is a real discriminatory issue, there is always the thought that you might be in a situation that will cause another heated one. Let’s take Atlanta for example. I’m not saying Atlanta is perfect but the black community is much more supportive of each other there. The positive thinking is much more rampant and the people want to see others succeed, whether it’s an artist or business persons.

In Columbus, there is certainly a need for the urban community to unite so that we may better ourselves. If we want more, we must act like we

have some sense of union and understanding of our sur-roundings. We must get out into the community and as-sist those that try to make something out of nothing into turning that into a re-ality. If we work together, I do believe we will be able to put Columbus on the map for the black commu-nity. If we don’t, our city will continue to appear dull and lifeless. And how

do you thing that make us look as a unit?

Uniting a city starts with the ones that populate it. There

is no hope for unity if there is no coalition among those that dwell in the same area. For a city as divided

as ours, we will have to study each other more closely and develop ways to deal with certain people in order to improve the situation. Obtaining a sense of understanding and aware-ness of how terrible actions effect the entire city as well as your personal life’s status and income should moti-vate you to want to reevaluate your daring decisions. We must change our mentality in the urban community areas, so that the corporate world understands that we mean business. Think about the big business man who may employ half of the city who happens to get robbed by someone in our community. How much more does that increase your odds of working comfortably next to him one day?

L et define the word marriage, n, the act or the fact living together as husband and wife and wife; married life; wedlock.

There comes a time in everyone life, when giving your love to someone and being loved by them is like the breath of life. A look that glows on your skin brighter than the sun, a feel that send electricity threw your veins enough to jump start F250 truck; which in fact give you the illusion that you are floating on air.

Now at the same time marriage is work. Yes I did said work! You have good time, bad times, up and downs. And even financial hardship that can make or break a marriage. So now that you have read the brief warning, and the understanding that this is a life choice not a life sentences. Jump the broom, enjoy your partner, role play and last but not least keep it spicy life is to short. This is your soul mate become as one. The mar-riage is between you and mate, not the whole family. You might have a chance at something wonderful.

So now let’s get to the juice of the article. I went around talking to married couples and trying to under-stand the true essences of a powerful marriage was all about. And what it takes to make it a long lasting union. Wow my finding went deep to the soul. What I found keep me on the edge of my seat, wanting to drain them of all the knowledge they would share. Some was old (70) some was middle age (50) and some was still wet behind the ear (22).

Mr. and Mrs. Keith said that they have been together for 47 years. And they find that as long as you have love, trust, communication; and respect for one another you can concur most of marriage issues. But understand that you need to be able to bend or be flexible. And at this age playing games go out the window. Then Mr. Keith turns to his wife and said. Love doesn’t make the world go around. Loves make the ride worthwhile. Which he sealed with a kiss!

Mr. and Mrs. Lovesharp have been married for 18 yrs. They had a different approach to how they handle things. Mrs. Lovesharp said she had many lonely nights. She never knew if her husband was going to come home this night, because he had not only a wife; but a girlfriend on the side for two and half years of their marriage. Unbeknown to her, Mr. Lovesharp felt that

Stephanie’sCorner

THE ESSENCES OF A POWERFUL MARRIAGE

he loved his wife but only saw her 6month out of the yrs due to the traveling job. Mrs. Lovesharp was an (international interrupter) for a big time Corporation. This was not excepted in any way but she know that if she wanted to keep her marriage solid she would have to make some changes, because long distance relation-ships was not going to work if she wanted to save this marriage. Once that issue was fix the girlfriend phased out of the picture. Mr. Lovesharp apologize, made up, grew up and moved on. This girlfriend was filler that he was never going to leave his wife for. Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage to go on,

Now this young couple Mr. & Mrs. Dramafree was off the chain. Full of mama drama and a whole lot of what were you thing of. They were 22years old married 8months and was not sure if the were going to last a year from now. He have eight kids she have none expected on the first in January 2011. He loves his new wife and pay child support for all his kids. But understanding that what he did in the past has put a hug damper on his new marriage and a large toll on his wife. Mr. Dramafree said to me I am a good father I spend time with all my kids and treat my wife like a queen. When she married me, I had bag and issue. It wasn’t until I meet her I wanted to change my life and get right. If she just wait and believe in me I will love her until the end of time cause when God put us together no one can separate our love.

I just want my read to know that life throw many challenges and storms in a relationship. You and your mate have to want to make it work and riding the same wave, assure that you have the passion to work it out. God bless you and the wonderful marriage everyone should have!

Marriage PoemsA marriage is really what you make it.Some times marriage can hurt you deep to you soul

If it don’t kill you, you have learn and move to the next level

Can love be measured and if so then howShould we mention it when we write our vow?Does love grow deeper when we are apart? Can hard word break are tender heart. When you awake in the morning To start out your day From going to bed mad with meAnd I reach for u and you move away Should I move closer, and say I love any wayDon’t be afraid to take risksOr even to make mistakesJust give it your allAnd I’m sure you’ll do great

Alpo is one of the hottest hip hop artists born and raised in the heart of Columbus, GA. Throughout his life he has been supportive of the lyrical prowess of those in the Hip Hop move-ment. Those artists that made an impact on Alpo are Nas, Outkast

and Scarface because of the messages behind their music and the realm of what they were saying. When discussing these artists, Alpo states, “They paint a colorful picture of every story told. Their lyrics have meaning and purpose.” Alpo fails to neglect 50 Cent as well because he admires the hustle of a determined individual trying to make money in the industry through incredible lyrics of his life and his side of the story untold.

To Alpo, Hip Hop means everything. The early de-velopment of its realness was self evident. But now Alpo sees Hip Hop becoming more “pop-ish.” “There’s no substance anymore. It’s built around money. And now, it’s a business to see who gets the most.” Many would agree that he is right. Most of the real money doesn’t even reach the artists’ hands. It’s like the record companies feed off the work of the talent of the artists without considering the artists’ true worth, stride, and hustle. Alpo wants Hip Hop to go back to making records that mean something, instead of industry executives telling the artist what to write, and “pushing all the buttons.”

But on the other side, Alpo is thrilled to see Hip Hop not just go nationally but globally. And the fact that the south is in control gives such artists as him-self a chance to make it. And Alpo’s got the talent, now he plans to utilize it to make a name for himself here in Columbus and wherever else his talent will yield him.

For the past ten years you could say that Alpo has been perfecting his craft as a Hip Hop artist and In 2006 Alpo chose rap to be his career professionally. Because of his love for music, it makes his lyrics come naturally. Alpo believes rapping is the opportunity for him to express himself. It also allows him to repre-sent how he feels and his lifestyle. When discussing his lyrics he proclaims that his lyrics are not a front, they are real. “If I said it, I did it, I done it!” he exclaims.

About two years ago he decided to create his own record label referred to as Legal Gangstas. He titled his company Legal Gangstas because the name suits the obvious. He has lived that life but he’s going legit with his company. He decided to create his own label because he wanted to have his own branch in the hip

hop community and control his independence in the game. Instead of others getting paid for his talent and controlling his creativity, he simply states that he wants to “get paid off me!”

Even though he is the CEO of his own company, he reps his Mob Side crew which consists of two other members, C3 “Claudy – Boo” and AP “Pizzle. His manager Neil Brooks, whom he’s known for the past 13 years, is one of his dependable managers. An-thony Med Lock, whom he met at Abraham Baldwin College, is his other manager and also shows support towards Alpo’s career. His main influence comes from his family. He has two children to support and he hopes to make more money to support his family and supportive friends.

When discussing some of the problems with the Columbus music scene, he states “The DJs don’t take enough risks and don’t utilize opportunities. They need to get behind the best and the hottest and push them.” He believes the radio stations, Foxy 105 and 98.3 The Beat, need to get together and stop competing against each other all the time in order to see Columbus take off music wise.

On July 3rd Alpo released his mix tape entitled DJ Drama and Alpo present Bricks, Stacks, Tracks, Money Schemes. On July 17th Alpo will welcome DJ Drama to Columbus, GA for Alpo’s first performance at the most happening club in the city, Club Sky. It will be the first time DJ Drama has set foot in Columbus and is an extraordinary opportunity for other artists to vibe with DJ Drama and get to know Alpo further. Alpo states that the experience with DJ Drama was “cool and he was down to earth.” He wants to thank P. Brown and Street Talk of Atlanta for hooking him up with the infamous DJ. What stands out the most about Alpo’s experience with DJ Drama is the fact that he choose Alpo to work with even though Drama usually does not pick indie artists. Because of Alpo’s lyrics and his ability to put his mix tape album together well, Drama decided to take the risk.

Songs that the crowd will be most likely to hear in Columbus on the 17th are “Shawty Fresh,” “All On You,” and “Conceited; On My Shit” featuring DK. Other art-ists that Alpo has collaborated with are Ray Lavender, Mob Side, J Hot, and C Scott. A couple songs catered to the ladies are “Smooth Gentlemen,” and “Living For You.” You can also expect to see him in Atlanta on the 20th of July performing at ThroBacks.

He also wants to give a shot out to 62 Shawty, Big D, Kash, Jones the Misfit, 100, and Duce Revolver. He also wants to give a shot out to Uptown Columbus and the Wilson Projects.

Millions Gone, Thousands Home Over the years the public yet private duties of Ameri-ca’s soldiers have been overlooked in most of the pub-lic eye. Several lives lost, and some families seem to leave the blood, sweat, and tears in the dust. Serv-ing in the ser-vice is honored among the cor-porate world, but sometimes seems to be over-looked by the people that gain the most from their losses. From the War of the Roses to World War 2, battle has been the basis of the development of our country. Nothing that has been gained in our plain view came without a fi ght. Behind the scenes there was another story to tell. The feel-ing of being in the heat of battle can cause even the bravest of soldiers to buckle under pressure. From the disciplinary action of basic training, to hands on guns drawn combat, the life of a solider can literally end up in smoke. Faced with a stunning realization on a daily basis that you may not see your family again would cause any man to think twice about what he was do-ing. So how can you not admire a man who has ig-nored all of these risks for one he doesn’t know. So I say now blessed be the name of any man who would risk their life on behalf of me and my children. I’m going to be honest, I would not fi x myself to perform what some of the actions you all do. That’s not to say I’m not brave enough, that’s to say that it is hard enough to live in my neighborhood and to feel that i may not see my kids again as it is. It can be a task living in poverty.

It would me more of a mission to add an extra risk to fi ght for a country of diff erent people and situations. The city that we stay in contains one of the world’s

most famous military bases, Fort Benning. Columbus is also known as the second largest city in this state. Next month it is said that we will be receiving over 30,000 soldiers and their fami-lies with open arms whether we like it or not. Being the retire-ment city that Columbus is, you should believe with everything in your soul that soldiers are go-ing to get love regardless from those who re-tire here and are brothers of their

same struggle. One thing we in the city need to do is acknowledge the soldiers more for what they have done for us that we can not see as well as what we can. Moral of today’s soldier segment is we should all live our lives with the same military mind frame. Protect the one we call neighbor whether we share the same plate or not. Become more in touch with the bigger picture that you are fi ghting for, than being disturbed by the smaller picture you see fi ghting in. Nothing with benefi ts comes without a battle. And there is never a battle that ends without results. And theres never a battle without benefi ts. There will always be some kind of result. Signing off feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, and or topics you wish to discuss and have the city read about.

Yes. Once again it is I, Gadget da Spokesman for Columbus, bringing you answers to all of the questions you need to know to keep yo love life drama free. This month I will be reviewing the cheater. Yes Mr. And Mrs. Creep In. There are so many ways to do dirt and only one way to do the right thing. So lets get you into a clearer view about what your situation should look like at home. Maybe.

1 First off , the shortest distance between any two points IN THE WORLD is a straight line. Going around curves and beating around bushes only

gets you to the same point in delayed time. Meaning pay attention to body language and conversation. If what they are saying does not agree with what they are doing there might be some fl aw in the mix. Always remem-ber questions that you ask and the answer that you receive. Ask that same question in a month or two and pay at-tention to how long it takes as well as the thought process they took before they answered you. Observation is one of the keys to life. If you pay attention to yourself and your surroundings you will never wind up with someone that is not right for you. If you know what makes you happy, sad, mad, fl ustered, or just feeling sexy, it should be very easy to recognize what another person can do to get you in one of these moods. So look for that fi rst.

2 The average female sets her sites on having an estab-lished man. One that was established before she came about. Problem with this is, her check list starts with;

house, car, job, pretty teeth, nice feet good hair, no baby mama drama, a goat in his yard, yada, yada, yada, and Oh, good credit. Maybe you are being picky, which is cool. You should be selec-tive and have a standard for what you want and that goes to male and female. Maybe you are being picky in the wrong area. Selecting qualities that don’t make a man or a woman. You and I both know that you are not going to settle down with some-body you don’t fi nd attractive so why not look for what really matters. How much attention do you desire? What do you have in common? How well do you communicate and are you con-

versations matching? People never think to search for what they don’t want to deal with before they look for what they do. Try swapping your initial direction and watch your results.

3 Scientifi c fact. In order for someone to tell you anything they must access the point in their mind in which it is stored. Meaning if its not really there how can they access

that memory. They don’t. That’s when a story is created and a lie is told. Lies create more lies which in most cases are easily lost track of. Nobody likes liars so pay close attention. The left side of your brain controls all of your logical thinking. I remember by saying

Left and Logical both start with Ls. The right side controls all of your creative thinking. Pay attention to eye motions. Up is for pictures (pictures hang up on a wall), sides are for sounds (your ears are on the sides of your head), and down triggers your other 3 senses (smell, taste, and touch) which are elbow eye level. For example, eye movement to the left and up is to create a real picture they have seen. To the left and side towards ear is to remember an actual sound they’ve heard. And any of these same eye mo-tions to the right are the exact opposite

of that. That’s where pictures sounds and smell for example are created and made up. A Lie. Pay attention to these actions. This is why the eyes are said to be the windows to your soul.

4 This is simple. Never settle for less than what you feel you deserve. Period. If you feel like you are worth your weight in gold be sure to fi nd all of the things you desire. There

are no such things as perfect people but there are perfect people for you. Pick wisely. Think Highly. If the person you are with does not connect to you mind body and should they are more likely to lie or cheat due to lack of interest in one or more areas.

5 Handle yourself like you want to be handled by others. Image is everything. If you look as though you don’t care for you then why should the next person. You cant

be a liar yourself saying you hate liars. That makes you hate you. Being real with oneself makes it that much easier to be real with others. So feel for the same things an honest person should feel for. Lets get it right. -Gadget
