HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SKIING AND HOW DID YOU LEARN TO SKI? I’ve been skiing since high school because I lived close to Rib Mountain (now Granite Peak)
WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SKI OUTFIT LOOK LIKE? BOOTS? FIRST PAIR OF SKIS? I just wore jeans and rented equipment when I fi rst skied
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SLY FOX SKI TRIP(S) AND WHY? When we skied in New Zealand. Very interes ng and diff erent than skiing in the US or Europe.
WHERE ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO SKI? Every ski trip the club goes on has been my favorite. Never been on a “bad” ski trip with the club.
WHAT OTHER INTERESTS & HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE OUTSIDE OF THE SLY FOX SKI CLUB? Volunteering
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
YOUR NAME: Sam Fontaine
WHEN DID YOU JOIN THE SLY FOX SKI CLUB? January 1988, when I moved here from Worcester, Massachuse s.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SKIING AND HOW DID YOU LEARN TO SKI? I learned to ski at Killington, VT in January, 1986. I drove up every weekend, staying at my brother’s house in New Hampshire and took group weekend half-day lessons. I broke my kneecap in my second year of skiing at Cannon Mountain, but was able to heal enough to get some runs in by April. Then I got transferred to Neenah, WI. I drove out and stopped to ski at Devil’s Head on the way, moved into my house and drove to Rib Mountain the very next day and then decided I could survive as a skier in Wisconsin. A friend at work told me I should check out the Sly Fox Ski Club. I joined at my fi rst meet-ing and haven’t looked back since.
WHAT DID YOUR FIRST SKI OUTFIT LOOK LIKE? BOOTS? FIRST PAIR OF SKIS? Light gray nylon ski bib, black ski parka. Dalbello boots because they had the most adjustment bells and whistles. Kastle skis because it had “forward waisted side cut”.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SLY FOX SKI TRIP(S) AND WHY? Porcupine Mountain in 1988. My fi rst Sly Fox trip and I got to meet the cool people, Jack Anderson and Paul Buechner. We all played Trivial Pursuit un l 2 am in Paul and Jack’s room with the beer keg outside in the snow bank and the hose snaked through the motel window.New Zealand 2002. Our biggest trip ever, 17 days, 3 islands, and I met my wife (to be).Wengen 2009. Panicked trip leader (me) when no charter bus showed up at Zurich airport to trans-port the group of 68 to the resort. Resourceful trip leader (me again) got train ckets so we got every-one to the resort a er 3 train changes and 2 Chinese fi re drills in me for dinner.
WHERE ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO SKI? Vail, Aspen, and anywhere in the Alps.
WHAT OTHER INTERESTS & HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE OUTSIDE OF THE SLY FOX KI CLUB?Golf, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Wagnerian Opera, European Travel
