1. December 2017- FLMS Counselors met with students to provide FLHS course opportunities
2. January 10, 2018- All 8th Graders visited FLHS to learn about elective courses (assembly)
3. January 11, 12 & 18- All 8th Graders met with FLHS counselors to preliminarily select 9th grade courses.

English DepartmentIn Freshman English, there is an increase in sophistication in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

How is English at FLHS different than English at FLMS?➢ In a word, rigor. More rigorous texts and assignments. ➢ However, there is always support- after school help and the Writing Center.
Skills required by the CCSS- assessed in junior year by the Common Core Regents Exam- include:➢ Increased complexity of texts➢ Increased use of evidence to support ideas➢ Increased focus on nonfiction informational texts

IMPORTANT: All students will need the use of a TI-84+ (or TI-84+CE) graphing calculator for every Math class in high school. The same calculator can be used for some HS Science classes, is permitted on the SATs and ACTs and can be used later in college.

Physical Education & Health Department Our 9th grade students have physical education 4 days out of a 10 day school cycle (2 letters and 2 numbers - i.e. Course 1 - BE14). Typically students have physical education opposite their science labs. Similar to FLMS, students have the opportunity to choose their units of instruction. The curriculum consists of traditional as well as non-traditional physical education units. Units are provided in: Badminton, Volleyball, Archery, Whiffle Ball/Softball, Basketball, Football, Soccer, PickleBall, Team Handball, Ultimate Disc, Hiking, In-line Skating, Tennis, Physical Fitness, Strength and Conditioning and Yoga. Hillside is Fox Lane High School’s small, community oriented, alternative program.
We serve both classified and non-classified students in an inclusive setting in the
heart of Mount Kisco. We are a therapeutic program established to meet the
needs of students who thrive in a small, highly structured classroom setting with
increased support and a high staff to student ratio. Hillside is appropriate for
students with a wide range of strengths and challenges
