LIZ NEILD was born inAustralia where the wide, unoccupiedlandscape first formed her seeing and still influences her

palette.Everything there is muted by ochres and grey except forthe intense blue sea and sky. In recent years the generous spacesof the English countryside have given her a second source.TheEnglish landscape is not empty but etched over with ancienttracks and earthworks, the traces of previous lives, and alwaysenlivened by season and weather. She also includes figurepainting and still lives in her subject matter. Her work lies between abstract and figurative moving back andforth across the boundary. Sometimes a picture begins as anabstract composition until something wells up and directs ittowards a subject. Sometimes it begins with a subject and then

the work takes on a life of its own and moves away from the starting point.Truth to expressionand to the material is more important than objective truth which is merely reporting. In thewords of Sickert “the singing of a song learned by heart, not a feat of sight reading”. Paint forits own sake, as thin as watercolour, as thick as butter, and everything in between; this is her realsubject. It can be wiped on with a rag or scraped off with card. Each brush leaves a different markand each surface receives the paint in its own way.Oil paint gives a sensuousness and a subtletyto both texture and colour that invite experiment.

BRIDGET LANSLEY has always loved to draw and paint. Hercareer in Publishing led Bridget to increasing involvement

in her painting, a journey inspired by, among others, RobinChild at his Lydgate Research Centre in Devon. Bridget’spaintings are simultaneously figurative and abstract –encompassing a fluid command of texture and hue. Her formand colour juxtapositions surprise and please with their brightspontaneity. The vibrancy of palette, energy of brush stroke andlively intricacy of line – all contribute to her passionate studyof 20th century art.

Bridget paints in London and at home in Hampshire, and haspainted in Scotland, France, Spain and Portugal. She has had

great success with her still life, landscape and figure paintings.Bridget has exhibited with CricketFine Art for the past six years and has been included in many of their mixed exhibitions andin Art Fairs in London and the Home Counties.

ANNIE FIELD worked as an interior designer for thirty years, with clients all over the world.Along with the renowned

interior designer, Jane Churchill, Annie presented ITV’s“Finishing Touches”, the first interior design programme ontelevision which was filmed in the UK and America.

Annie studied at the Sculpture Academy in London, attendingtwo days a week for four years. Annie continues to takepainting, drawing and sculpting lessons.

She is a member of the Chelsea Arts Society and the SouthWest Sculptors Association.

KATHY MONTGOMERY’S inspiration is taken from the figure orthe landscape, but that is only a starting point. Her aim is not

to represent exactly what she sees but to develop it into a dynamiccomposition and a harmonious whole. She uses colour to create abalance and a tension between abstract forms. Broken areas ofopaque paint overlaying translucent washes punctuated byoccasional scraped areas are characteristic of her work.Vibrant juxtaposition of colour, sometimes seemingly irrational, but nonetheless carefully analyzed on the palette, creates anunexpected excitement.

Often a sensitive, deceptively random drawing line links abstractshapes to suggest a horizon, a pathway, a distant clump of trees; the

interpretation is left to the viewer. It is this mystery which the artist invites the observer to explore.

Kathy Montgomery was born and educated in South Africa. After graduating with a B.A. at theUniversity of Cape Town she moved to London in 1968, and has pursued her painting careerever since. Kathy’s work is held in private collections in the UK, France, New Zealand and theUnited States.
