i remember the first time i read about foundation studies. to me it was a new concept since i thought that one could apply directly for a degree at the university of the Arts. not only the name sounded strange but also the principle of studying one year prior to the degree was something a little bit abstract for me. i however perse-vered with my investigation and soon discovered what foundation was about. research, experimentation, networking, and introspec-tion are fundamental skills that have to be acquired before the three intense years of a bA. i knew the course was a good thing to do and was ready for it.but now that this year is coming to an end for the 2011 class, what has amazed me the most is the amazing variety and the high quality of numerous works. this is why i wanted to do this project. not only the editorial universe was something i was interested in, but further-more there was really something to work on. An edition celebrating the talent and creativity of the students.for different reasons this book couldn’t be bigger, and given the limited number of pages i had there were difficult decisions to make. this book is therefore a personal view on the foundation course, the tip of an iceberg of fabulous creativity. i hope you will enjoy it.

Constance Tso

constance is a silent girl from hong kong who traveled overseas to study foundation course at central saint martins this year as a compensation for not choosing art as her A-levels. this is the happiest year she has ever had in her studying years. most people have the impression that constance is an obedient architecture student who always does tiny and detailed models, but in fact she is a super fan of Japanese anima-tions, comics and games. ~(-.-)~

Cristina Planas

name: cristina planas borrallobirthday: may 18th 1992citizenship: canadian, spanishborn in: montreal, canadacurrent city: london, ukoccupation: student

Dominique White

dominique is a romantic, a ring addict, seriously indecisive, a dirty lon-doner and an art student at central saint martins. she still is on a quest to become french and study fine art at l’ecole des beaux Arts in paris.

Abigail Jones

Abigail is a nineteen year old fine Art practice stu-dent from essex. photog-raphy had been her initial interest before art and still uses it as the basis of the majority of her work. her works main three themes are representation of nature, experimenting with processes and explor-ing form. she is continuing her practice at central saint martins studying bA fine Art in the cross disci-plinary area. she spends some time romanticising the idea of living in an era before her time and cannot wait to travel more of the world.

Alejandro Romero

Alejandro is born in 1984 in colombia but soon moved with his parents to new York and later on moved to switzerland where he did most of his studies. he then came to london to study foundation and will pursue his career at the london college of com-munication with a degree in design for interaction and moving image. Apart from creating images, he spends his time listening to old records, admiring nature’s beautiful work and sometimes playing terribly addicting video games.

Becky Okell

hardworking textile de-signer from the north of england with an obsession for print and most recently structured textiles.

Elenor Hellis

elenor hellis originates from camden town, london. elenor had a tumultuous childhood having spent some of her time living in the suburbs of new York and has lived in many different towns in london. elenor had initiated the foundation at central saint martins as an aspiring fashion designer, but soon came to the real-ization that a career in the fine Arts made so much sense. elenor’s interests include micrography and medical imaging, she has a broad collection of optical instruments many of which she explores within her research.

Emma Backlund

emma comes from sweden where she was born in 1985. she has always been interested in other cultures and has therefore chosen to work and study abroad which has led her to study foundation in london. she will continue her studies in photography and graphic design. other than a passion for image making she has a great interest in dance and music.

Francesco Corsini

born in italy, francesco has found his interest in art and design through music. committing to several bands as a drummer, he started to look at music also from an aesthetical point of view. this has

given him the opportunity to work in several freelance projects for bands and cultural associations. After studying glass design he moved to london where he currently studies graphic design and practises jazz drumming.

Grace Buttall

grace was born in hertford-shire, england in 1992. she enjoyed a traditional educa-tion from primary through to 6th form in her hometown before beginning her art foundation in london. After this successful year grace will continue her studies on a bA fine Art course in london. besides creating artwork grace has a real love of travelling, wanting to experience the beauty and cultures of the world (and if there is a wave around then she’s sure to jump in for a surf swell).

Ignacia Ruiz

ignacia was born in santia-go, chile where she studied 3 years of Architecture. she moved to london to study graphics and illustration at central saint martins.ignacia likes, above all, to make things. beautiful or weird in 2d or 3d the urge to create is constant. she also likes good tunes, walk-ing a lot and swiss choco-late.

Marina Viktorsson

before coming to central saint martins, marina stud-ied Advertising and pr and worked in the advertising industry in stockholm, in her native country of sweden. however, she realised that her passion isn’t making ads about margarine and mobile phones and that a better option would be to study graphic design in london. marina enjoys typogra-phy, package design and branding, but is also fond of illustration.

Mark Feltham

mark was born in 1993, and has lived in london all his life. he is going on next year to do a fine Art degree and central saint martins. in the long run he is likely to be quite poor and unsuccessful, so is currently enjoying the fact that he can make lots of art and go to the pub and cafe too much.

Miho Okuzawa

miho was born on January 6 1992, in tokyo, Japan. during summer of 2011, she came to london to pursue her artistic career and joined the foundation course at csm. she was originally a fine art student, but later switched to illustration. she
